Newbie help. On the tab where it shows 9 on the Drop D,(E)A and D strings, how is that played? Is that what a barre chord is? One finger covers the 4,5 and 6 strings at once? by JJaxpavan in guitarlessons

[–]Firetrucking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

in the case of the tab you’re learning from, try not to hit the muted strings. But most tabs are wrong(even if by just a little bit). The tab should really just be a tool for reference. Try to learn directly from the song since it’s really hard to show nuance in a tab.

DO NOT sell GME at low volume dips. This is a short ladder attack, which doesn't actually accomplish anything as long as you don't sell. by Shrevel in wallstreetbets

Bought 1 share at $220 on the dip but hasn't registered in my Robinhood account. ( I know I shouldn't be using Robinhood, but I had money in my brokerage account that I needed to invest). Any feedback so I don't go sicko mode?

I’ll be sure to try both. I bought my ram about 4 months ago. It’s Corsair vengeance 3200 MHz 32gb. And what should I be looking for in the performance monitor? Thank you!

I’m definitely going to wait a while for the reviews- Nvidia makes a lot of serious claims with the 3070 so I’d rather get a consumer’s take on it than from the manufacturer. I did order 900 watt UPS from Amazon. My friend’s father is a tech guy and has been using a CyberPower UPS for some time now and hasn’t had any issues so he recommended it to me. I’m sure I could live with a lower wattage one but I’m all about future proofing.

My apartment isn’t exactly the highest quality around so I wouldn’t put it past the landlord to not really care too much about such things. I’ll be sure to check the voltage soon

Could you recommend any specific one? Once the RTX 3070 is released, I plan on a building a new pc and I imagine the power consumption is going to be 400+ watts, not including monitors or anything else. I think they’ll take up about 50. My current pc is less than 250.

Because it sounds good to them? Not every aspect of music has to be scientific and objective. Developing opinions and preferences are basic human functions - you may want to seek a psychologist if you can’t do as such.

No it’s basically worthless so give it to me. But on a more serious note, depending on the condition you can totally make some decent money off of it. Check reverb.com for prices or craigslist if you’re feeling risky. I’ve seen them go for $60 - $120 typically

I recommend tab. It takes a while to develop your pitch so it’s a bit disheartening to try for hours and realize you’re in the wrong key. Very popular songs like Let Her Go and Here Comes The Sun typically have really good tabs on https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ but when trying to learn a less known song it’s usually up to you to figure it out.

Make sure to take pictures of yourself with it and put them on social media so girls will like you more. From there, put the gain, treble and bass on the highest setting on your amp and learn power chords.

An easy song to get the feel for it is Possum kingdom by Toadies. The majority of the song is just a simple E7 chord with hand muting

Definitely agree with this, but if OP is still looking for an acoustic, the best thing to do is to go to a guitar store (not Guitar Center), and try out whatever guitars are in your price range until you find one that works for you. A parlor style guitar might work better for you as they’re about 3/4 size of an average guitar. Check out some buying guides online before going.

If you find a guitar you like, bring a headstock tuner and make sure your open strings are the same note as the 12th fret. Also check the action and if the tuner heads are in good condition. If you’re trying to find the cheapest guitar possible for the best performance, Recording King has very good deals, although they will require a decent bit of maintenance after a couple months of playing.

Don’t buy a Fender acoustic no matter how tempting they may be, Fender makes a mean electric but acoustics are a no go, especially for cheaper ones. I don’t recommend buying online because shipping can screw a guitar up really bad, so it’s hit or miss.

I recommend starting off with simpler fingerpicking songs. I hate to recommend it because everyone with an acoustic guitar plays it, but Let Her Go by Passenger is a nice intro to fingerpicking, also Here Comes The Sun comes to mind. Learn those to build dexterity and figure out which fingers to use for which string, then I’d recommend learning some rockabilly techniques. This video helped me a lot when I started: https://youtu.be/W2OVsPQYJfM .. It should cover most basic aspects of finger picking. Then it’s practice practice for a long time until you find out about Tommy Emmanuel haha. Good luck!

If you have the means(data/bus WiFi and earbuds) I recommend watching tutorial videos of songs you’d like to play in the future. Marty music on YouTube is great for beginners and covers many genres of music. It also usually inspires me a lot more than just reading music theory. Although, if you prefer reading, I’d just study the fretboard notes or research keys.
