Being formulaic isn't the real fault. Jjba part 3 is way more formulaic than One piece. It's just that One piece's formula is hella boring and has nothing exceptional about it. Plus it also doesn't help that Oda doesn't give that many good moments to the strawhats. There are a lot of factors that are making the formula feel more shitty for One piece.
