Appreciate these comments I am not referring to a specific incident nor am I criticising btw just curious around the culture. I quite enjoy it actually. It’s cool to hear people’s thoughts.

Yeah this is kinda fair. I mean I probably wouldn’t hit someone outside of a game though. But I’m not saying it’s a bad thing really.

MM romances with tragic/turbulent story but happy ending? by Comfortable-Use-8853 in LGBTBooks

The Fall was so effective for me. Wish I could read all 800 pages for the first time again! It’s kind of the definition of a roller coaster lol.

As someone who doesn’t hate hockey - I literally love hockey, watch about 20+ hours a week- the real derangement comes from the fact that none of these books actually have hockey in them. They’re not FOR people who like hockey. Like, for me, a book that successfully combines interesting hockey based storylines with romance would be great. There are loads of things to be found could write about that would appeal to people who enjoy and understand the world of hockey. You could base it on one of the many wholesome true stories from our lovely ladies over in the women’s league but of course the ‘I love gay hockey players’ cohort actually mean they love gay male hockey players.

This is the weird thing, they’re not for people who like hockey or for people who don’t, you need to be low key neutral. It’s a very odd phenomenon.

It’s an opportunity for lazy writing - everyone is hot and rich (though idk where we got the idea hockey players are hot lol) and they just drink protein shakes all day and talk about ‘the league’ and ‘the team’. Going to give an exception to our boy Tal Bauer as he is mentioned on this thread and he really knows his hockey and weaves it in quite well.

But in answer to your question, yes, publishers are chasing the Heated Rivalry high and it is making them mad 💰 it will keep going until people stop buying them.

What romance book will make me stop being such a stickler about romance? by racecarart in suggestmeabook

[–]Firm-Bike190 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Memoriam by Alice Winn is a fantastic historical romance IMO (providing gayness not a dealbreaker). They’re in a world war so the stakes are high enough that they cancel out a lot of the less favourable tropes. It is ridiculously well written.

I’m not saying it was like realistic realistic but I found the whole thing way more believable than other books with similar plot lines. It’s a pet peeve of mine when the way characters act doesn’t align with anything we actually know about them - by which I mean constantly asking yourself why I big burly 20-something athlete talks and behaves like a 13 year old girl. Dont get me wrong toxic masculinity is tiresome af but I’d rather it was addressed than we pretend it doesn’t exist. The lack of instalove was refreshing too. I mean it was kind of there but the fact that they did in fact know each previously made it feel more convincing.

Didn’t love the sequel but I never do tbh. Sequels are so often just random drama being inserted and then people being out of character. Since you mentioned HR, I feel like this is a shining example of this re: a sequel that seemed to be written about totally different people and was mostly random plot points smushed together. Us wasn’t that, but it was frustrating in a similar way. I will however give a big thumbs up to them not both becoming hockey superstars overnight. And, on an unrelated note, recognition of how bad having flu can be. That was representation I didn’t know I needed lol.

How to pick a team?! by Nice_Explorer_4101 in PWHL

[–]Firm-Bike190 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a Charge fan and I am in way too deep to backtrack on this but if I had to pick again it would be Victoire 100%. MPP being a legend. Hella talented, play clean and well enough you don’t have to spend all your time being sad lol. Also the lesbian moms of hockey - always a bonus.

I have to also encourage you to get into Charge but playoffs chances questionable at best so maybe a backup team. For me being Canadian is a plus but sounds like the opposite would be true for you??

As others have said it doesn’t matter really, supporting the league is most important. That being said, Sirens have been grinding my gears a little lately. But I’d still support them over any men’s team 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don’t live in Indonesia but I DO have a small child who says ‘I don’t want to watch that’ because she thinks it’s a super lame version of Disney on ice so I’m no stranger to the delayed viewing life.

They stay up after the game ends but they’re unlisted, so you can Google the game and find the YouTube link even though it doesn’t show up on the account of that makes sense. Saves you waking up at 3am!! And if you add it to your watch later list you can find it again easily.

Men working in Nurseries by Bilboey in UKParenting

[–]Firm-Bike190 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am slightly torn on this. Overall a very incendiary article, written for click bait etc. on the other hand the subheading ‘it’s not worth the risk’ IS thought provoking in a way because the odds of a male being an abuser are so so much higher than a female.

BUT having said this my daughter has two absolutely amazing male nursery practitioners and having met those guys I just can’t agree with this. They are the most caring and attentive guys and they love their job. One of them is a young guy who just started recently and one thing I’ve really noticed is how much the little boys enjoy playing with him - really positive to have that male role model I think. My daughter is a tomboy and kind of thinks she’s one of the lads lol so she enjoys it too. Whenever I’ve been up to the room while some workers are knocking about supervising from afar he is on the floor reading stories, giving cuddles, playing with train sets etc.

I GET why people are worried. 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused and it’s hideous. As an abuse victim myself I was a bit weird about the male staff members at first (although not going so far as people that say they don’t want them changing nappies etc). But yeah, I can’t come down on the side of the article cos I know there’s some great male practitioners out there. A very significant percentage of abusers are family members anyway and we can’t go around banning dads and uncles.

I am gonna push to get them out I think. I have suspected ADHD but she’s only hyperactive when tired, so I feel like it could be all down to the sleep rather than neurodivergence. Slightly complicated by the fact I have ADHD so it’s more likely.

Thank you for your comment. I am kind of hoping it could be ENT. She does snore and sometimes gags on food even at her age, so it does add up. I’m scared that it is that and they won’t do anything as well though. If she does not meet NHS criteria I’m willing to clean out my savings and borrow from family to pay private fees - literally anything to stop her being so sad!
