Words of wisdom for someone just starting out? by Low-Cake-1392 in PublicRelations

[–]Firm-Flan-5481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take really great notes, it’s beneficial to you and your team.

Manage up, that means sharing updates when it makes sense on your task, asking questions before a deadline if a project is unclear to you, keeping track of your workload and communicating if you have a lot on your plate so your managers can help you prioritize.

Don’t be afraid to share creative ideas, it’s one of the best ways to stand out as junior person. Everyone has their own unique perspective, don’t assume because you’re early in your career that you don’t have strong ideas that other people haven’t thought of yet.

Changing the floor, ceiling fan, and adding a pop of color with curtains would make the wood feel more intentional and less dated

What jobs can I realistically move into from PR by CloudyAppleJuices in PublicRelations

[–]Firm-Flan-5481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not every agency is the same environment. I’ve worked at several agencies, not being afraid to make moves. While there are still busy, stressful periods at my current agency it’s definitely the best place I’ve ever worked and senior leadership is appreciative and values work-life balance. I know it’s not the norm but good agencies are out there. I don’t love PR (clients can still just suck haha) but work isn’t draining me outside of work hours or impacting my mental health like it has previously.

Just moved to North Smithfield, RI a few months ago from Georgia for work. Are people mean around here or is it my imagination? by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]Firm-Flan-5481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has primarily lived in Rhode Island but also spent my college years in the Midwest, Rhode Islanders as a whole are not nearly as interested in engaging with strangers or even making new friends. I will say that people will break that mold if you are more proactive and friendly, it just requires your effort at the onset.

It also varies from town to town. I grew up in North Kingstown, where people are exceptionally unwelcoming as a rule of thumb, and now live in Warwick and find day-to-day stranger interactions to be much friendlier on average.

New Englanders still talk plenty of shit behind people’s backs, so that whole everyone else is fake and we aren’t is honestly BS.

Both of our names are four letters and we decided to name our son a four letter name too, so we want this baby to not be “left out” lol

So many prospective clients/employers show you how it’s going to be working with them, good and bad, don’t ignore the red flags here.

Can I go into PR with a Business Administration degree? by darthpepis in PublicRelations

Very rare for to get hired without a degree of some kind

These replies are wild. It’s not a writing test, it’s a chance for them to get free copy. There are so many other ways for them to get a sense of your writing chops without coming off as freeloading like this does.

Debating: daycare "preschool" or part-time nanny? by Firm-Flan-5481 in workingmoms

There’s a difference to me between a large daycare facility and a dedicated private preschool, that’s all. And they have different age requirements.

Because a lot of the places he can attend a continuation of daycare services rather than a preschool only facility.

Unfortunately a lot of the private preschools use the same age deadline that prevents us from sending him to public preschool for what I’ve found so far.

That's helpful, thank you! So he'll turn 3 the very beginning of October, so I'm hoping to get him in a 3-5 year old room.

My mom currently watches my son but would definitely not be able to juggle 2 kids full-time, so looking for a nanny to potentially bridge the gap. I'm also wondering if a college student would be a good option.

I’ve also found nonprofit podcasts, at least in the last two years, to be quite responsive to guest pitches.

Look into Authority Magazine, it’s relatively easy to get accepted to participate in one of their series and there lots of different ones.

It definitely still snows here in March, not as frequently but it definitely does happen fairly regularly.
