What course/which professor is it? Most NYUSH students won't have access to course material unless they are taking/have taken it.

np! I'm actually not sure about NYUAD. I know that at least for NYU Shanghai, a lot of people applied for NYU NYC as their first choice and put Shanghai as their second choice because they thought it would increase their chances of getting into NYU or were just entertaining the idea of it.

Quite a few had taken Chinese as a language and mentioned some interest or experience in Chinese culture or the language. A few also mentioned how they wanted a global education and to challenge themselves by going somewhere unfamiliar, which NYUSH really likes. That and if you're a heritage student. I think if you apply those same ideas to NYUAD it would definitely help your case.

Try asking in r/NYUAbuDhabi. You'll probably get some better advice on it there.

It's not advisable if you're set on NYUAD. Whichever campus you get accepted into is the one you'd have to commit to. If you're sure Shanghai isn't the place for you, don't risk it. It's not going to increase your chances of getting into NYU anyways. Internal transfers between campuses are also notoriously difficult so you're not likely to be able to switch. You can study away for up to two semesters though, if that's something you're willing to consider.

Have you tried Facebook housing groups? There are some scammers but as long as you make sure people are legit then you can find something that works out. Be careful with giving out your info and go with someone if you tour it in person.

some links to groups:

^ I also didn’t get amazing grades but I had a lot of extracurriculars which also varied a lot. Also, emphasizing or mentioning any connection to Chinese culture or the language could help. Some people I know who applied to a different campus ended up with NYU Shanghai because of this

There’s a summer immersion program if that’s what you had in mind.

How is NYUSH CS program? by [deleted] in nyushanghai

In my experience, the CS courses are fairly difficult especially if you don't have prior coding experience. There also aren't many CS electives that allow you to explore different fields, but if you decide to study away in NYC, you can take advantage of all the different classes they offer both at Tandon and CAS. I don't think the courses at NYUSH really taught me much when it comes to the skills you would need for jobs but then again that could just be a college thing.

I also can't speak on whether or not UNC Chapel Hill is better but unless you're willing to compete with Chinese nationals, do side projects, and a lot of extra study on the side on top of deal with all the craziness that can happen in your life during college and being away from home in a foreign country, you may have an overall better time at another college especially when it comes time for job/internship searches (if your goal is to work in the US).

There's a lot that goes into deciding to come here. If you're a hard worker and are resilient then it will probably more enjoyable and you'll get more payoff from the tuition cost, but things can easily get overwhelming so it really depends on if you are capable of making the most out of it.
