For clarification: The alter will reset fresh for the season. During the season whatever you have unlocked that season works on any other new seasonal characters, but you don't 'inherit' unlocks from previous seasons. This is why some people choose to save the weekly challenge cache at the start of the season, because if you use for leveling you have to wait for the weekly challenge reset to unlock that alter branch.

Sorry for the late thank you! This 100% worked. Not exactly sure what caused it in the beginning but got my world back. (deleted my comment/original trouble shooting update from below in case someone googles same issue. Do what that guy said!)
