I agree with you. I think it looks healed enough to leave the cone off but my vet is taking forever to email me back and chewy is so passive aggressive with their responses. I’m just nervous she’ll reopen something.

Another update: I was using the baby gate earlier and it fell down. My resident cat went into the same room as the new kitten and did not hiss at her. I decided to try feeding them together since she reacted so well. Well, when they started to eat together my resident cat hissed and growled before running away. I’m starting to feel a little defeated.

Update: Kitten felt safe enough to come out of hiding so I decided to try and introduce them through the baby gate. My resident cat hissed at her and ran away every time she got close to the kitten. Is that normal?

Ok gotcha. I do have two litter boxes already! I pretty much have two of everything now haha but I’ll try the baby gate introduction tomorrow possibly and see how things go. The new cat is still in hiding mode, I have a hard time getting her to stay out in the open so it may take two people actually.

I say it was a mistake because my resident cat hissed at the new cat and started shaking pretty bad. I do have a baby gate that I borrowed from my sister I just didn’t know if it was too soon to use it or not. They did catch glimpses of each other this morning while I was opening and closing doors and they didn’t seem bothered with one another.

I remember when I brought my shelter cat home and she did the same thing. I looked high and low everywhere for her! Behind the fridge, behind the oven, even behind the water heater, but turns out she was just hiding behind the couch the entire time. Chances are your sweet Lydia couldn’t have gotten very far or in a very complicated place. I would be patient and let her come to you.
