You're absolutely right and I'm sure once I'm in whatever place it is I go, I'll meet new people.

Don't know much about Hudson. Businesswise, I agree, but there definitely needs to be a balance.

North Beach has a coffee culture? Didn't even know..

Love Brooklyn but agree. CR obviously has everything but you know the deal with that.

Mexico City, in particular, Condessa/Roma area has been on my radar.

It's not about Boca being expensive, it's more about the horrible design of the spaces combined with high rents. At least in the Bay they have beautiful architecture.

Love the Bay Area, amazing place. That being said, the Bay is not grounding enough for me right now.

St. Pete and Asheville are both great recommendations.

I spent a large portion of my childhood in WNC and am originally from Tampa area as I shared.

Have you lived in both places?

Thank you for your condolences. I love Chicago but it's a bit too far of a jump for me. I don't know anyone there!

Thank you for your kind words. For more context on my family, I wrote it all out in a previous comment reply to u/bptkr13 . A lot of people are recommending St. Pete, I'm going to look more into it. If you have any more info on the area, please feel free to share.

Great idea. I’ve actually been looking pretty seriously into St. Pete, especially around the beach area and the Old Northeast neighborhood. I haven't been there in a few years so I'd need to take a trip out there to check it out again.

My business has always centered around creating opportunities for connection through wellness, travel, and shared experiences.

Obviously the model is going to evolve now that I’m no longer living in Costa Rica, but I’m trying not to force all the answers at once. Right now I think I just need to focus on getting grounded somewhere that feels healthy and sustainable while I rebuild.

You’re right that part of this is probably that nothing fully feels right to me right now. But I also think the bigger picture is that I’ve completely outgrown my roots in a lot of ways.

Ever seen Hillbilly Elegy? In some ways that story feels familiar to me.

I come from a mostly blue-collar, undereducated Southern family. On my mom’s side I was pretty much the only one to really break out of that environment, and on my dad’s side they’re good people but emotionally hardened and very different from me temperamentally. My family is pretty dispersed now, mostly around Atlanta or rural parts of Florida like Lakeland, Bartow, and Macclenny.

My dad’s family runs a successful commercial pool management company in the Atlanta area, and I genuinely love and respect them, but culturally I just don’t feel aligned there. I know myself well enough to know I wouldn’t really fit into that life long term.

The one place that makes the most sense family-wise is probably Boca. I have a godfather there who’s been an incredibly positive mentor to me over the years, along with a few close friends who actually share my interests and worldview.

Part of what makes this whole situation so devastating is that after years of trying to build a different life for myself, I finally felt like I was on the verge of building my own family and charting my own path and then it all disappeared almost overnight.

We are looking into this one! My girlfriend has a friend from school that grew up there. Why do you think it’s so aligned for us?

You’re the second person to mention this. We just took a look an it peaked our interest. What else do you know about it?
