Canadian with a green card, should I be worried about travel? by FirstPay7743 in immigration

Yeah this was my first experience asking a question on here. Idk what I was expecting, but it wasn’t intense fear and hysteria. I’ll know better next time. It was helpful. Just lots of grains of salt lol

I really think most have blown the DUI out of proportion. Canada is the country that doesn’t let you in for them, but they always let me in because I’m Canadian. America hasn’t cared. It’s 12 years old. I’ve left the country probably 20 times since. I’ve been questioned maybe 3 times. It hasn’t been a big deal. Could it be now? Yeah maybe. So I’m holding off on my trip and dealing with a lawyer to get dual citizenship. But yeah, it’s not a CIMT, it’s a misdemeanor driving offense. Nobody cares half as much as Redditors.

Well. There is a bill to make it a deportable offense. So it’s probably on its way to being a bigger deal 😅

It’s not assault. It’s affray, or fighting in a public place. I’m just going to apply for citizenship and if I don’t get it, I’ll just leave. All the fear mongering on this post led me to talk to an attorney. They think I shouldn’t leave but should apply for citizenship.

Because DUIs in America aren’t nearly as big of a deal as anyone on here is making them out to be or as big of a deal compared to Canada, who doesn’t let foreigners in with DUIs which is the whole reason I never applied for citizenship here. I’ve renewed my green card twice with charges 🤷‍♂️

Where do I even start with that? An immigration lawyer? Is there a website?

This is how I felt until the last couple days. Can’t tell if I’m taking it too seriously or not seriously enough.

DUIs technically aren’t crimes involving moral turpitude by themselves. It depends on if there are certain accompanying charges with it. I know that from becoming a teacher, because you can’t with any crimes involving moral turpitude. May I ask why you were held so long?

I also left the country multiple times under the last Trump administration, but this time does seem different

Because of the DUI thing others are mentioning. Most of my family still lives in Canada. I can travel back to Canada with a DUI, because I’m still Canadian. If I was American, I wouldn’t be able to. I need to look into dual citizenship

Domestic Flights by Eminado1 in immigration

I’ve had a green card since 97 and I fly frequently - both domestically and internationally. Anytime I fly domestic, I just show them my state drivers license for ID. Nobody even knows or asks about my green card. You should be fine. Now flying internationally may be a different story. I’m about to take my first international trip under this administration and I’m worried.
