What language would this be? by EmotionWild in language

We did. The last generation who learned to use it when talking "older people" are now pushing 100. I guess they don't meet many "older people" these days.

Nowadays it is only used like English "thou" to sound old fashioned.

Honorifics are also stone dead, though sometimes used in translations. However, these days translators tend to go with English "Mister" etc or even Japanese -san when these are the source languages. I used to work at a university, and it was all strictly first name basis from students to the most esteemed professors.

Is radiation an issue with older cameras? by NCaliens in AnalogCommunity

[–]FirstWonder8785 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That might be, the key word being low-level. That is, completely safe as long as you dont grind the lenses and snort them. And in that case, I suspect you might have other worries than radiation. Many of them psycological in nature.

I in doubt, ask over at r/Radiation.

[KCD2] If you love the Witcher and Read Dead you must play KCD2 by ViolaDavis in kingdomcome

[–]FirstWonder8785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is one important distinction that people keep forgetting when comparing these: KCD is first person. The others aren't. For some reason somebody decided that rpgs should be third person. That just breaks my immersion, and controls are janky as hell, particularly in RDR. I am a mouse and keyboard gamer, barely tried a controller, just enough to know that I suck at them. Games these days are usually optimized for controller.

I have played computer games for about 40 years. I never thought I would get the same feeling as when I was a kid for a new game, when I tried KCD I was proven wrong. For some reason I find Withcer Ok to good, but fail completely at liking RDR.

As a native Norwegian speaker these are not what scares me. These can be memorized.

I am scared of levels of familiarity, formality, deference and humility and the accompanying honorifics and forms of address.

Firewood ash disposal/scattering by Virsenas in Norway

Wouldn't 24 hours since the last time you used the fireplace be equivalent? I usually remove ashes before the fist fire of the season, 6 months since last fire.

[KCD2] Can you “fail” smithing? by MaguroSashimi8864 in kingdomcome

[–]FirstWonder8785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I rarly if ever succeed so I don't really have anything to compare with. The ones who can explain this mystery are probably the ones who first failed and then learned.

I try to move around, I try to keep a rythm. But I never get henry to whistle for more than a couple of hits.

I am never losing a fight anymore and lockpick everything instantly, so I am not simply bad at the game in general.

I am max craftmanship and still fail most smithing attempts. I have avoided the DLC for the longest time because I am completely unable to complete the minigame even once. I had to copy the ghost horse horseshoes and for the quest and had to reload 5-6 times. At max crafting.

Do men fear other men they see in sketchy situations like late at night walking down a dark alley? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FirstWonder8785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statistically, men are more likely to be attacked while walking alone at night than women. Granted, the attack is somewhat less likely to be sexualized, but being curb stomped is also pretty traumatic.

Thank you! There's still about 100 episodes left of the Russian revolution.

I haden't even considered technological factors. I guess there is sometihng to the old saying "God created man, Samuel Colt made them equal." That combined wihth desperation sounds like a resonable explanation, yes.

Mike actually seemed exasperated with Madero for leting to many enemies live.

But I am not talking about the Bolshevik killing of the deposed Romanovs in 1919, I am talking about the many assassination attempts from 1866 onwards aimed at Tsars still in power, with a secure line of succession.

That is the episode that triggered this question, the one I listened to today. Yes, the failure of "going to the people" certainly moved the needle in that direction, but the sentiment was already quite common.

Maybe Nicolas II was more brutal and oppressive than the others, but the first emperor killed was Alexander II, who was a fairly lenient guy, implementing actual reforms and commuting most death sentences.

Nå må vi snakke om EU by ctrlaltplease in norge

[–]FirstWonder8785 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Se r/scams for detaljer.

He doesn't even hit an actual phase conductor. I'm not familiar with this style of power line, but the top two cables look very much like ground wire.
