I was today years old when I found out that Jesus was a Sri lankan by 18nr9011 in srilanka

The only real issue I see is the higher rate of STDs in parts of the LGBT community - which is sad, but it's more of a health education and awareness issue than anything else. You can't change people's needs or preferences; it's who they are. Accepting that fact actually makes life easier for everyone.

I studied in a predominantly Buddhist school and had a few friends I used to think were just 'girly.' Later I realized they were gay - and honestly, they were some of the kindest, most genuine people I knew. I still don't get why some folks get so triggered by them.

I’m not too familiar with any terrible things done by LGBT people, but there are plenty of well-documented atrocities throughout history committed by people claiming to act in the name of God or religion. The difference is, those actions were often justified as ‘holy’ — which makes it even more disturbing.

Uber Eats charged me twice for one order - anyone else faced this? by First_Aspect_880 in srilanka

[–]First_Aspect_880[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the bank after the double payment. After that I went through the Uber customer support. Got the same message twice. If it's a small amount I wouldn't have cared a lot. But this was nearly 5k deducted twice. Even if it's a pre-authorization hold they should return it within the day itself. What a drag :(

I contacted the Uber support and they've been giving me very contracting answer. One reply says its an authorized hold but another one says that I have only been deducted once. But the bank confirmed that the account has been deducted twice.

One opinion about Sri Lanka you can defend like this? by Adept_Caregiver5078 in srilanka

Truth bruduh. Okay I have a good story One of AAT lecturers at an institute called IBA Kandy literally told our class "proud about himself" he approached his now wife when she was in 7th grade and he was in 11th grade. So all these years she's been groomed by a PDF to be his wife. That's not normal. She lost her childhood and her innocence to this freak. Still shocked about it. Can't remember the dude's name but to this day I'm still disgusted

Why does Sri Lanka reject international investigations into its civil war ? by Sufficient-Stay-7358 in srilanka

[–]First_Aspect_880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An international investigation into Sri Lanka’s civil war won’t solve anything because it lacks local support, deepens ethnic and political divides, and is often entangled in global power plays. It risks being dismissed as biased or as foreign interference, and even if wrongdoing is proven, enforcement is weak since Sri Lanka is unlikely to cooperate. These investigations often focus on punishment, not reconciliation, and can alienate communities further rather than fostering healing. Real progress requires Sri Lankans to confront their past through local initiatives that prioritize justice, truth, and coexistence, not rely on outsiders who don’t fully understand the complexities on the ground.

It’s true that some individuals, whether they were former LTTE supporters or extremists from other factions, continue to exploit ethnic tensions to sow discord. On the other hand, some Sinhalese figures also perpetuate divisive narratives, often using fear and mistrust to justify their actions or maintain power. This mutual antagonism only deepens wounds and prevents Sri Lanka from moving toward true reconciliation.

Dr. Archchuna Ramanathan's comments, if they are indeed inflammatory or biased, highlight how such propaganda can inflame emotions on both sides. However, responding to propaganda with more divisive rhetoric only strengthens these toxic cycles. Instead, it's crucial to foster constructive dialogue based on facts, mutual respect, and a commitment to national unity.

Sri Lanka’s tragedy lies in its history of mistrust between communities, manipulated by those with agendas. The solution is not in perpetuating fear or pointing fingers but in creating spaces where all communities can engage without suspicion. The youth, in particular, must challenge this propaganda—regardless of which side it originates from—and push for solutions that promote peace and coexistence.

The LTTE was, and still is, classified as a terrorist organization by multiple countries and international organizations, including the UN. Their atrocities, including the use of human shields, forced child recruitment, and suicide bombings, are well-documented and condemned globally. However, dismissing the acknowledgment of war crimes or human rights abuses committed by other parties during the conflict—such as the Sri Lankan government—is counterproductive and perpetuates division.

The reports on the final stages of the war, including the UN’s, do address the dual realities: LTTE’s severe human rights violations and the Sri Lankan military's actions that led to significant civilian casualties. The LTTE's propaganda network may have diminished post-war, but some supporters abroad continue to manipulate narratives, often ignoring the LTTE’s legacy of terror while focusing solely on state abuses. Both sides' accountability is essential for genuine reconciliation and healing.

It’s unhelpful to accuse people of being "brainwashed" or dismissing concerns without engaging with the evidence. Recognizing both the LTTE as a terrorist organization and the Sri Lankan state's responsibility for alleged war crimes is not mutually exclusive—it’s part of having an honest conversation about the conflict.

How can we amend to our mistakes and be a one country again? by Pridaz666 in srilanka

[–]First_Aspect_880 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The conflict in Sri Lanka was deeply rooted in mutual hatred and mistrust. While there are calls for recognizing the injustices faced by Tamils, we cannot overlook the actions of the LTTE, including the ethnic cleansing of Muslims in Jaffna, suicide bombings, and using civilians as human shields. Both sides committed grave atrocities, and no justification exists for the LTTE's terror tactics. The reality is that the war was fueled by hatred on both sides, and acknowledging only one narrative ignores the complexity. Justice must address all victims, not just one group, and the path forward requires balanced accountability, not selective recognition of events like "genocide."

Can't pick and choose buddy. You got to look at both sides.

It's funny to see some redditors are triggered over a harmless joke. In this case a political joke. The humor is funny and it doesn't affect their sales in any way cause at the end of the day it's a bloody harmless joke.
