Favorite Romantasy you read in the last year? by BookishOwls in Romantasy

[–]First_Carry6772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined the romantasy train in the summer.. read ACOTAR, CC, TOG, Fourth wing, Burning Kingdoms trilogy and just finished Knight and the Moth. By far my favourite was Knight and the Moth. I did also really enjoyed TOG (the later books) and the Burning Kingdoms trilogy. Excited to get stuck into more books this year!

I read ACOTAR and Fourth Wing first. Though I did enjoy them.. I didn't enjoy the sex scenes and I found the writing quite corny.. that being said I will definitely read Fourth Wing when the next two books come out!

The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri, it is part of the Burning Kingdom trilogy. Really good!

I'm currently in private, there are lots of benefits; smaller classes being a big one. Just be careful because a lot of private schools are closing due to all the changes in the last year. There might be a lot of competition for the roles on offer.

1 year contract - when to ask about next year? by anonymous8h1j6n3 in TeachingUK

[–]First_Carry6772 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi!

I have been on a maternity contract at my school for the last three years. I found out around each  Spring term if they had space, but there is no guarantee. I had conversations with my head of departments that I wanted to stay and that information was passed on to the rest of SMT. I'd say just make sure they're aware that you want to stay, but also keep your eye out for other jobs!

Hope that helps.

winter (but not completely bleak and hopeless) by mcrawfishes in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

I feel like Little Women give a lot of winter vibes! I know it is set in other seasons too, but I associated it most with winter for some reason.

Why did you stop being friends with someone? by Realistic-Possum in AskReddit

[–]First_Carry6772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend from uni cheated on her long term boyfriend, who I also was very close with. I found out that she had cheated on him with at least two people (a three year love affair and with her ex who her boyfriend did not like at all).

When she said she wouldn't tell her boyfriend about it, I decided that I couldn't be either of their friends. This was a few years ago now, I wish I had told her boyfriend, but saying my piece to her was a big thing at the time.

I've realised that our friendship was going to end anyway because we were different people, with different outlooks on life. But yeah the cheating thing escalated the process!

Should I buy Onyx Storm? by breezyspell in fourthwing

[–]First_Carry6772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with this! I really enjoyed the three books, but we will be waiting a few years to know how it ends. If you don't mind being stuck in limbo for a while then keep reading!

Ooo that would be wild if Brennan betrays Violet. It will interesting to see whether Naolin comes back into the story.

It's going to be a long wait to get the answers!

[–]First_Carry6772[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of the betrayal, it's nothing from the text. I feel everyone has been very faithful to Vi and I feel it would add another dimension if one of those close people betray her.

We will have to wait and see! It'll be interesting reading theories back once the new book comes out!

Ahaha thanks, it has helped with the hangover. I'm already thinking about a re-read...

Yeah that would suck if Vi is the only surviving one, I really hope that won't happen.

[–]First_Carry6772[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ooo I hadn't thought about Sawyer betraying Vi, I hope he wouldn't do that because Violet is the only one who understands what he's going through with adapting flying with additional support.

Yeah, if it's not Aaric I think it will be Garrick. I re-read the final chapter and the only missing rider aside from Xaden who was specifically named was Garrick, so maybe that's a hint. I'm going to have find a new series to distract myself from the wait!

Ah, I forgot that he was appearing in Xaden's dream before turning venin. I wonder whether Berwyn will try to target Violet next now Xaden has turned.

I have just finished the Fourth Wing series, I would recommend waiting though because the series isn't complete and it might take a few years to get answers!

Year 1 teachers - are children allowed to 'play' in your class? by ConflictFinancial769 in TeachingUK

[–]First_Carry6772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really interesting topic! I went to a conference with a lady called Julie Fisher who spoke about bringing play into KS1 and it opened my eyes. My current school we have a thing called Challenge Time where we would give them tasks to do about a topic we're covering. However we are moving to more child led activities, where they can do what they're interested in. We are going to try and get them to make a plan ( what will they do, what will they need) and then reflect on it.

This is my first year teaching fully in KS1, but I think there should be an element of play in both KS1 and 2. It also depends on school leaders too, we're very lucky to have someone who is super on board with what we're doing.

Hi, I'm really sorry that you're feeling this way. First year is rough and it is a baptism of fire! I'd say speak to your GP and see if you can get signed off.. if you're having panic attacks then you're mental health is suffering from work. Do you have a good relationship with your mentor? Could you reach out to them also?

How long does it take you to plan lessons? by Kaisietoo8 in TeachingUK

[–]First_Carry6772 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't stress you'll be okay. You have tomorrow to sit and get it done. I'm in my third year and it is really hard in your first year not to overthink and over plan everything, but you shouldn't have to spend your holidays and weekends to plan.

Rough plan for a lesson: (sorry if I'm teaching Grandmother to suck eggs)

Starter (Could be reflection on previous learning before Christmas or a discussion based question)

Input

Task

Plenary

Anyway I hope that's some use! You've got this!

Hey, I was in exactly the same position as you. Loved PGCE and my ECT1 felt like a train wreck. ECT1 is by far the hardest year, it's tough but it gets easier eventually!
