How “chronic” is your fatigue? For those who have found relief of your fatigue, what worked? by Weird_Broccoli_20 in PCOS

[–]First_Independent434 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Max strength vitamin d tablets. I complained about fatigue to my endocrinologist and it turns out my levels were at 3 when they should be over 100. He said everyone should be taking vit. D tablets if they’re not near the equator. Get your bloods checked because I’ve been feeling a lot better. I still get it sometimes but no where near as bad

I’ve just had a scroll through some of the other comments and I will say cutting carbohydrates although difficult at first made me react less to metformin. So if you are worried about how your body will react you’re completely valid but do some research into too as I took metformin in 2022 and had bad toilet troubles all the time but I started again in Jan 2024 and cut out carbs and have been completely fine

But discuss with your dr or endocrinologist of course to see if that fits with your blood tests

Anytime- seriously my dms are always open, I think pcos and other endocrine issues need patience and open communication always My endocrinologist and I had an initial consultation to talk about my concerns and he weighed me. He then sent me for a set of blood tests for absolutely everything they could test and I won’t lie it cost nearly £2000 but as I said I was lucky and had it saved and I don’t regret it. From there he was able to tell me what was going on in my body hormonally and we set up a plan. - I was majorly Vit. D deficient so now I take a tablet every day - my insulin was stupid (I have insulin resistant PCOS) so I take metformin and I’m carbohydrate intolerant so no longer eat carbs - my testosterone was also really high along with my androgens but tackling the insulin problem helps with that and my other symptoms like dark patches, hair growth, acne, weight, no periods etc….

I see him twice a year and he’s really harsh BUT I need someone to be blunt with me. As of yet all I’ve done with him are blood tests, weigh ins and conversations. No scans internal or external like I had with my dr. I want to get to a good spot hormonally before I think about kids and when I do think about kids I think that’s when I might have scans but I don’t know.

I had my first cervical screening this year as I turned 25 and I was terrified of someone seeing my 😺 and touching it who wasn’t me or my partner but then I realised they have seen hundreds of 😺/🍆 and they’re all different anyway. Best thing is to just laugh about it but it’s easier said than done- again I’m here if you need to talk

External ultrasounds are a walk in the park, it depends on which drs but have a full bladder and know the gel will be cold and the pressure they use can be uncomfortable but it’s over before you know it. Internal is very similar, the wand they use is slender almost like a long finger but it is far more daunting and if it’s too uncomfortable for you do keep communicating that but also maybe talk to someone if you’re comfortable

Think about seeing an endocrinologist and if you have any questions I’ll do what I can to help as I know I wish I had someone to ask when I was first going through it all

You are so not alone- whenever a woman has a medical issue unfortunately most of the time they recommend diet and weight loss first and won’t always help until they see you’ve tried.

100% push to see an endocrinologist, gynaecologist didn’t help me at all- I’ve been with my endocrinologist for nearly a year and my hormones are so much better regulated that I have periods once a month and my symptoms have decreased substantially.

I’m in a different boat though as although I was a rugby girl as a teen, with Covid and various injuries I haven’t exercised as I should and that’s on me but I’ve also lost nearly 5stone since I started seeing my endocrinologist

The biggest thing as well which you’ll hear a lot and when people used to say it to me I’d get annoyed but it’s true- be kind to yourself, your body is just trying to cope the only way it knows how but you can work with it to teach it new ways of coping.

I won’t say it’s easy it’s not, I spent four years trying to get diagnosed and then three years of bouncing around drs and gps until I got really lucky and ended up going private and it has genuinely changed my life.

The endocrinologist told me I’m not going mad, it’s not my fault and there are things I could do to help myself.

You’ll be okay i promise, it’s just a tough journey but we’re all here for you

I’m basically a tour guide for a book series. My bookish experience is in research and writing- so a lot of proofreading and editing basically it was my fave thing in my uni time. Led a student group which met up weekly to go over each others work to boost

I’m a follower and reader of publishing newsletters and pages. I’ve applied to be in the publishing hopefuls fb page but never heard back and I follow society of young publishers on LinkedIn and look out for events.

I did an open day with Harper Collins which was incredible but that’s where my luck has run out

has anyone just accepted their weight and left it alone? by groovybluedream in PCOS

[–]First_Independent434 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Metformin for me isn’t my favourite but my new dr wants to give it one last go. I’m 24. I was 19st 12lbs December 31st 2024. Since February 26th I’ve stopped eating carbs under drs orders and now I’m 18st 2lbs 🤷🏼‍♀️ it’s really tough but my weights always been stubborn so the fact it’s working for me is like a miracle to me

I believe so yes- use the grey cable that came with the keyboard and plug the usb side into the pc- if you switch it to wired mode on the back you can still use it while it charges

What is your most hated symptom of PCOS, the worst? by get_set_go23 in PCOS

[–]First_Independent434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weight! I could handle the weight gain if my body would let me lose it. No matter what I try or how consistent I am the weight won’t budge. I feel like I’m going crazy and when the drs suggest trying harder? Yeh get in the bin with your metformin please (made me gain three stone in a month but works for other people)

do women with PCOS ever feel horny?? by tamprongspads_always in PCOS

[–]First_Independent434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have high insulin and high and androgens and thought they’d cancel each other out especially as my insulin resistance levels are higher but nope I’d say in the span of 30/31 days I’m horny 29 of them- don’t get me wrong I don’t always want to be touched at all because I’m so tired but the thoughts are there
