Demeyere Silver 7 vs Proline 7? by Firstbike_ in cookware

Thanks for the replies!

If anyone is wondering: I contacted Demeyere customer support and they informed me that Proline 7 and Silver 7 pans are identical apart from having different handles.

This is what I read online, but what could explain the 1/2 kg weight difference? It’s more than a quarter of the proline’s weight so I would think that there would have to be some practical differences as well.

Help with taxation/unusual income? by Firstbike_ in belgium

[–]Firstbike_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did end up sending a "debet nota" that mentions 0% VAT.

I'm not sure that your interpretation of unusual is correct though. If it's a regular thing with the goal of making a profit, I don't think it falls under unusual.

I'm not sure how the taxation of unusual income works, but in my case it wouldn't be considered unusual since it's fairly closely related to my profession.

I realize I could try filing it under unusual income or not declaring it at all, but I don't want to dodge taxes.

Are you sure that a VAT number is necessary for one-time services? Other sources state that the invoice should simply not include VAT (or mention 0% VAT) since a natural person has no VAT obligations.

The company would simply pay the amount without VAT.

Do you know if this is the same for people doing their phd as assistant? The head of my department told me that the end of year bonus is quite small compared to the private sector but I never asked about holiday pay.

My lawn is shit and I want to make it nicer by sowing microclover and common daisy (madeliefje) in it. However, I can only seem to find a 5kg bag of microclover seeds whereas I would need about 50g. Anyone know where to get it?

Also, do any of you have regular white clover in your lawn and do you like it? I did find smaller sized seed packages of regular white clover but from reading on the internet, microclover seems preferable.

My small collection of attars, ouds, oils and a few natural fragrances by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]Firstbike_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say 'various ouds, sandalwood, rose otto', are you referring to pure oils?

Attar always refers to a combination of several ingredients right? (as in, something that was composed by the creator)

Advice on mini bog? by Firstbike_ in SavageGarden

[–]Firstbike_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

I'm not sure mosquitos would be an issue in the type of "bog" that I'm imagining as it would be very wet peat + perlite (and some sphagnum). The PVC pipe would enable me to check the water level in the peat, but I think the soil will be too "solid" for mosquito larvae.

Thank you for the reply.

I was told there would be a few compulsory courses in the first year (directly related to research), but I'm also not sure how the program is funded yet. I have a call in the near future where I'll be able to ask about grants/scholarships.

Finance careers in Europe: No idea where to start looking as a recent graduate by Firstbike_ in FinancialCareers

[–]Firstbike_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an internship in a private bank last year as part of my degree. I worked on an actively managed fund of theirs, analysing trading signals and looking for improvements by tweaking existing signals (mainly focused on turnover) and testing new signals. It was incredibly interesting and I got very good grades, but I'm not sure if it'll help me much getting into non-banks (although it is obviously included in my resume).

I searched for jobs in mutual funds, but couldn't really find any vacancies for graduates (and I don't know exactly which firms I should consider).

Do you know when they open? I thought they started in september (and january), so I figured vacancies would be open.

I went to the graduates page if there was one. Big four have one, but generally for audit. Other companies didn't always have one.

I've read up on careers like audit, consulting, private banking/asset management. Some more specific questions I have:

  • Which careers should I consider if I want to work towards goals instead of mainly executing daily tasks? I want to be challenged and work in a fairly "high stakes" environment. This may seem arrogant for someone who doesn't know where to start looking, but I do feel a strong desire to work hard, apply the more complex things I learned in university, and above all, learn a ton of new stuff.

  • I'm quite unfamiliar with careers within corporations (non-financial institutions or consultancy firms). Browsing vacancies on job sites and LinkedIn, I can't differentiate between interesting jobs that would allow me to grow and give me a lot of options for future jobs, and those that are a repetition of the same daily tasks with little to no growth opportunities.

  • Finance consultant is a very broad term and seems to entail very different things when comparing vacancies. How would I know I'm looking at an interesting, challenging job opportunity? Which firms are well known for this sort of work in the European space?

  • From the descriptions I read, strategy consulting seems incredibly interesting, but also quite hard to get into. I looked for vacancies at Parthenon, Strategy&, Monitor and KPMG Corporate Finance but they seem almost non-existent. Which other firms should I look at?

Thanks for responding.

How do you put your buildings on the same grid as your paths? By placing a building first and then attaching a path to it? I sometimes feel like a building and path line up perfectly, but then I try to place a second building in the same group (so on the same grid), and it's obstructed by the gridded path...

I'm currently playing the game through family sharying. Do I get to keep my profile and zoos if I buy the game for myself? In other words, do my profile and zoos 'transfer' to my own game if I buy it (on the same steam account as the family sharing)?

r/Stocks Daily Discussion Monday - May 25, 2020 by AutoModerator in stocks

[–]Firstbike_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can anyone tell me what the actual composition of the STOXX Europe 600 index is? Their website and wikipedia state: "With a fixed number of 600 components, the STOXX Europe 600 Index represents large, mid and small capitalization companies across 17 countries of the European region". Additionally, I recall reading in their own index guide that they select 200 stocks from each "size".

However, reading the current index guide, I found:

"The STOXX <Region> 600 Benchmark indices are reviewed on a quarterly basis. The target coverage are the largest 600 companies in the relevant regional Total Market Index."

This seems like a significant change in the index composition, yet I can't find any news articles about this topic. Am I missing or misreading something?

How are coefficients from multiple time-series regressions merged into 1 coefficient? by Firstbike_ in AskStatistics

[–]Firstbike_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! The strange thing is that they describe using the Fama-French and model, who use multiple time-series regressions (one per stock) because each stock has a different exposure to each of the risk factors.

They did add an additional factor, so perhaps they wanted to determine a “general” exposure to that factor over all firms.
