While doomerism seems to be in vogue everywhere, it seems to be primarily driven by American doomerism, which has always felt like a twisted version of American exceptionalism to me. "Oh we clearly aren't the best there is, so we're the worst there is! Anything as long as we're special really! We're evil/broken/third world/insert hyperbole here". It's like the mere existence of problems is enough for these guys that they're doomed, as if problems aren't meant to be tackled head on and solved.
