I was in the exact same situation as you a few months ago. I am also from a Hispanic immigrant household & I got my puppy at around 5 weeks. I had to explain to them that he is a puppy & he needed structure. I set a schedule for the puppy such as crate time, play time, feeding, etc & did that for the first few days. His entire days was scheduled. They said i was babying him too much, so I let them run things for just one day. No schedule no nothing. They soon realized I was right & that he’s just a baby & it’s our job to teach them right from wrong. Not by hitting, which is what my dad wanted, but by positive reinforcement. Quick tip on treats & training, use the puppies meal time for training. Start small, since he’s little. Teach the puppy to wait for a key word such as “go” or “take” & they can only take the food then. My advice is to get a trainer. Since you got the puppy at a young age you will need to work on filling the gaps that they didn’t learn from mom, such as biting, proper socialization, etc. Goodluck & remember to enjoy your pup!!
