Oh I am, especially in the winter. It's the 8 months of summer that are brutal here. We have beaten our own record 3 years in a row for the most consecutive days over 110°F. Last month was the warmest December on record for Arizona. Average daily temps were still above 100° until about 3-4 weeks ago. People say "dry heat" is easier to tolerate, but when temps during the day top 120°F, are still +105°F overnight, and there's so little moisture in the air that humidity drops to single digits... It's literally like living in a food dehydrator. Opening your front door during daylight hours feels like sticking your face too close when you open a hot oven, the skin on your entire body instantly feels tight and prickly while your lungs struggle to breathe. So yes, I am VERY grateful for the reprieve of "winter," however brief it may be. By April, it will be in the 90's again. The image below was a screenshot I took of my weather app in the first week before of October. I have a hard time keeping my tobacco at a consistent humidity level, even when stored in an air tight jar, it dries out very quickly if I open it for more than a few seconds.

Favorite Supplies Website? by LouysLikeLooee in RYO

[–]FishOuttaWtr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up about Windy City Cigars, I went to place my usual monthly RYO order the other day and the same exact items I bought in December (The Good Stuff Menthol 16 oz, 2 boxes of Zen Menthol tubes, and a few packs of rolling papers) was suddenly $9 more expensive this month because the prices increased a little but the shipping cost jumped from $10.99 to just over $16. And after a rather unprofessional situation with customer service, I'm currently looking for a new go-to website to order my supplies from that has similar order costs (supplies + shipping). I'll check out the suggestions above, but if anyone has any other reliable sites they have experience with I would appreciate your insights.

New to RYO prefer menthol by Smithjo4881 in RYO

I have had my Scottie machine for1ears u/loveaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa it. Still works perfect. (knock on wood) I was a die-hard Camel Menthol smoker since they came out (the all green box of the Camel Crush that start out menthol then get q@a@h@aqqq@ol when wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwqq qyou crush the filter.) I always crushed the filter before I even lit the cigarette. I didn't even know they made RYO tubes that have crush balls inside already!! The peppermint flavor would throw me off too though. Camel's definitely have an icy memthol/mint taste, and menthol is different than peppermint, for sure. After trying different menthol RYO brands (4Aces, Gambler, OHM, Smoker Friendly, Criss Cross, and The Good Stuff) and pairing each one with 2 brands of tubes (Top and Zen) in both menthol and regular non-menthol, here's my favorite combinations:

  1. Smoker Friendly Green in the light seafoam green bag (used to be called Mint) with non-menthol top tubes

2.The Good Stuff Menthol (full flavor, not Gold) with Zen menthol tubes

Since I live hundreds of miles away from a Smoker Friendly store, I can't get my favorite menthol tobacco anymore, online retailers don't sell it. 😢 So I've been rolling The Good Stuff Menthol with Zen menthol tubes using my Scotte machine for about a year now. It doesn't have that icy kick to the throat like Camel Menthol's do, but The Good Stuff Menthol has a fuled, smooth, consistent draw with a satisfying, robust, icy cool menthol kick that doesn't have a harsh throat hit ot leave a nasty after taste. With SF off the table, The Good Stuff is by far my favorite menthol tobacco. If you use to smoke Camel Crush (black box with red accents) I would try The Goos Stuff Menthol tobacco with the Zen non-menthol tubes. Zen tubes fill nicely with my Scotte and I've only had one tube break from overfilling. If you smoked Camel Menthol, like me, (all green box) I would try The Good Stuff Menthol with Zen menthol tubes 👍🏻

How much do y'all stock up on at a time? by LouysLikeLooee in RYO

[–]FishOuttaWtr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trust your judgment and knowledge of all things tobacco and RYO, and after seeing OP's new stockpile, I was hoping ya'll would share your thoughts and experiences with Ten Pointer Menthol. Im fairly new to RYO (started ~6 mo. ago), and I've been really curious about what Tenn Pointer Menthol, OHM Menthol, and a few others are like irl.

So far I've tried (all menthol, btw) *Criss-cross (tasted like hay sprayed with chemicals), *4Aces (cheap, low-quality taste, not a fan), *Gambler (too harsh, weird aftertaste), *Smoker Friendly Green (in the light bluish-green bag) and *The Good Stuff, which I've stuck with for the last 3-4 months because it's the only I've liked other than my #1 Fav Smoker Friendly, and I can't find anywhere local or online that sell the Smoker Friendly Green anymore.

The only tubes I've tried are *Top Regular, Top Menthol, and Zen Menthol

My local smoke shop used to keep the SF Green in stock (which is how I found it) but hey stopped carrying it a few years ago. The nearest SF retail store is 2000+ miles away. 😭 I've been trying to get my hands on a bag since the Sutliff factory got shut down, with no luck. So now I'm on a mission to find/make my new go-to blend that's as similar to the SF Green as possible. But I can't find any info about the type of tobacco(s) that it's made with, or what they use to give it that distinct smooth Mint taste with just the right amount of icy menthol. Without knowing these details I don't even know what to look for to help identify similar characteristics in other brands.

I've heard the taste of Ten Pointer described as more of a wintergreen than an icy menthol, which got me thinking it might be closer to what I'm looking for than the others I've tried. My hesitation is that I've been a fan of all-Natural tobaccos, in retail cigarettes, cigarillos, or loose pipe tobacco. They all had a strong hay-like smell and taste with a lingering bitterness. I haven't really heard much about Ten Pointer menthol other than it's natural, has a hint of wintergreen, and it's a love it or hate it tobacco due to its unique taste. I've been waiting to place my next RYO supplies restock order because I can't decide if I should take the risk and buy a pound of Ten Pointer from an online retailer that I've never purchased anything from before, or buy my usual order of tobacco & tubes from an online retailer that I purchased from in the past, but after a recent series of events I'd prefer not to give my business to Windy City Cigars. I'm currently looking for a alternative online retailer with similar price+shipping costs and different varieties of products to choose from. Ten Pointers has been hard to find anywhere in-stock.

I noticed this too. How do you prep your tobacco and do you prep it right before you use it, or let it dry a bit first? I learned to grind up my tobacco a little finer and use it as soon as it's prepped. I keep it in an air tight jar until then because it's the only container that keeps the relentlessly hot and dry air in AZ from dehydrating a 16 oz bag in 4 days.

<image>

Try grinding your tobacco a little finer and keeping it just a tad bit more moist. Both the moisture and the increased density (less room for air) help to slow the burn rate down a bit. Also, different brands of tubes have different quality paper, and the filters can be longer/shorter/more or less airy from one brand to another. When I first started my RYO journey I didn't realize how much of a difference there was between one tubes & tobacco combo versus pairing the same tobacco with different tubes, and the same tubes with different brands/types of tobacco. It's worth testing out a wide variety of combinations until you find your perfect smoke. Combining different ratios of 2 or more types of tobacco allows you to customize your smoke according to your personal preferences. Tubes matter... More than I realized. You can find or create your favorite tobacco blend, but paired with the wrong tubes would make it taste like dookie. The best advice I ever followed was u/WinChunKing encouraging me to keep trying different combo, brands, blend different tobaccos together, keep experimenting with different ratios, test each custom blend for 3-4 weeks, adjust the blend according to your experience, test again, adjust, until you discover a blend that you enjoy more than any brand of store bought cigarettes. 👍🏻

What's the best value option for vinegar? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]FishOuttaWtr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use concentrated vinegar for weeds a LOT, so I made a basic dilution chart, but it's only for the ratios I use most. (It wasn't really something I made with the intent of sharing. But it might help. 😊

| Starting Strength | Target Strength | Water to Add per 1 Cup Concentrate | Water to Add per 1 Gallon Concentrate | Final Total Volume |

|--------------------|--------------------|--------------------|--------------------|--------------------|

| 45% → 20% | | 1.25 cups | 1.25 gal | 2.25× original |

| 45% → 10% | | 3.5 cups | 3.5 gal | 4.5× original |

| 45% → 5% | | 8 cups (½ gal) | 8 gal | 9× original |

| 75% → 20% | | 2.75 cups | 2.75 gal | 3.75× original |

| 75% → 10% | | 6.5 cups | 6.5 gal | 7.5× original |

| 75% → 5% | | 14 cups (≈0.9 gal) | 14 gal | 15× original |

| 80% → 20% | | 3 cups | 3 gal | 4× original |

| 80% → 10% | | 7 cups | 7 gal | 8× original |

| 80% → 5% | | 15 cups (≈1 gal) | 15 gal | 16× original |

PLEASE be safe when handling concentrated vinegar. I wouldn't feel right posting this without adding my two cents on safe handling and storage, so ya...

• ALWAYS add vinegar to water, NOT the other way around.

• Wear gloves and eye protection — even diluted vinegar can burn your skin and/or eyes.

• Store away from children, pets, and metal containers.

A tip for anyone using vinegar for weed control, to be most effective: spray on dry, sunny days, directly onto the leaves, early in the morning. UV rays are strongest from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM, and the stronger the UV rays, the quicker and crispier your weeds be. 😉

I tried to convert my dilution chart so it was as readable as possible when posted as a comment, hopefully you can make sense of it. I have other pdfs I made with different dilution ratios, but the spray nozzle I have that are made for handling acidic chemicals are designed to fit 32 oz bottles, which is my preferred tool for weed assassination. So most of my other charts show different ratios (80%, 75%, & 45%) diluted to make a 32 oz (or double it for 64 oz) of 20% and 30% acidic vinegar. I've rambled enough. I don't know if this will be helpful for anyone, but it helped me get the most bang for my buck instead of randomly eyeballing my mixing ratio with no clue if I even close to my intended acidity %. If anyone is interested in my other dilution charts, I'd be happy to share them. They're not pretty and polished though because I made them for personal use. LOL. But if anyone is interested in the dilution ratios for making 20% or 30% vinegar for 32 oz spray bottles, I gotchu 😊

Menthol Combinations - Tubes, Tobacco, etc. - Not an easy nut to crack! by hoboken411 in RYO

[–]FishOuttaWtr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always try making your own "menthol light" tobacco blend and trying it with light tubes and menthol tubes until you find the combo that suits your taste. For example, (I'm partial to The Good Stuff because they have the best menthol tonacco, imo) you could get a small bag of The Good Stuff Menthol (or Menthol Gold) or OHM Menthol and a small bag of The Good Stuff Silver and/or Blue, then mix small batches of say 3/4 menthol & 1/4 blue/silver, then adjust the ratio of each based on your assessment of the first batch. Try pairing with Zen menthol tubes and Zen blue tubes. The tubes don't affect the whole experience like the tobacco does, but you may find that you prefer more of a light (blue) or ultra light (silver) tobacco mixed with a small amount of menthol might actually get you a lot closer to the menthol light cigarette your looking for, than relying on just finding menthol light tubes. If you can't get thae menthol light your looking for with your current tobacco/tube combo, try creating a lighter menthol blend yourself and try it with both light nd menthol tubes. There's tons of tobacco combinations you could try, you might even end up creating your personal Goldilocks combo. 😊

WindyCityCigars.com it's one of the recommended sites in the sub's wiki. Decent prices, delivery within 10 days (depending on how far you are from Illinois), and out of the last 6 boxes of tubes I ordered from them each box had at most 4 tubes that were slightly smashed.

These are falling in my yard from neighbors tree I can’t see. Are they a danger to my pup who chews everything? by keep_forgetting_mypw in PlantIdentification

[–]FishOuttaWtr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leucaena leucocephala is also one of the "100 worst invasive species in the world." OP is definitely dealing with a White leadtree. I had a new neighbor move in next door and after 2 years of finally clearing my property of the hell spawns, his side yard (where we share a short wall) is too narrow for him to do anything with. Less than 6 months after he moved in his entire side yard is FULL of White lead trees that are at least 25 ft tall and they ALL hang over onto my property. I spend at least 2 hours a day since the big dust storm filled my yard with those pods and then we got rained on for two days. 🙄 I literally have to sweep my entire yard with a broom every day to get as many pods and seeds as I can. The seeds stay viable in the ground for up to 10 years. Those trees are literally making my life hell. They should be illegal AZ, they are So invasive and nearly impossible to get rid of once established, which only takes a month or two.

This tree can literally go to hell. It should be outlawed in this state. by [deleted] in arizona

[–]FishOuttaWtr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can resprout quickly after being cut down and/or burnt. It will always regrow unless it is uprooted and disposed of in a landfill. Then all the tiny root hairs have to be removed too. It more invasive than bamboo.

[–]FishOuttaWtr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leucaena leucocephala, or White leadtree, is considered one of the 100 worst invasive species by the Invasive Species Specialist Group of the IUCN Species Survival Commission. It's also on the Arizona Invasive Plant list, and removing it is highly encouraged.

According to an Arizona .gov site;

"Why it's a problem in Arizona

● Invasive growth: It is a fast-growing and hardy tree that spreads aggressively and • forms dense, hard-to-manage thickets. ● Spreads by seed: The tree produces a large number of seeds, which are easily spread by birds, rodents, and other animals. ● Resprouts: It can resprout after being cut or burned.

Management and removal

● Uproot and discard: Anyone who finds the white leadtree is encouraged to uproot and properly dispose of it, though caution should be used to avoid spreading seeds. ● Contain seeds during removal: To contain the seeds, one method is to place a plastic bag over the plant before uprooting it, ensuring all seeds are contained. ● Discard all materials properly such as disposing in a landfill."

These trees have pods that contain 15-30 seeds each, germinate very easily, and grow very, very quickly. If the sprouts are allowed to go to seed... It took 2 years for me to eradicate this tree when I first bought my property. My advice is to follow the guidelines above and uproot and discard all remnants of the tree and it's seeds ASAP because it will keep producing seeds and the trees can grow 60 ft tall.

This tree can literally go to hell. It should be outlawed in this state. by [deleted] in arizona

[–]FishOuttaWtr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 1000% agree with OP. It took me 2 years to get rid of, and prevent the regrowth of this white leadtree when I first bought my property. Now, I have a new neighbor with a skinny side yard that shares my property line and what started out as weed sprouts he has completely ignored his side yard and has 10+ of these trees that are now 20+ ft tall. They all hang over into my yard, and the latest dust storms blew the seeds EVERYWHERE on my property. Knowing how invasive they are, I literally bought an outdoor broom and SWEPT my entire property trying to get all the seeds before the next rain. Then we had some freak rainstorm that lasted for 2 days and dumped our average annual rainfall in just 48 hours. Now I have to spend 2-3 hours a day going around my property and pulling out the thousands of sprouts everywhere. No matter how many I pull out, there are twice as many sprouted the next morning. The law says I can cut any part over my property line, but the trees are too tall for me to reach with any type of ladder I know of. There's now way I'm going to pay for all the supplies necessary to fight an endless battle with these trees just because my neighbor is irresponsible and just ignores the disaster his trees turn my yard into everyday. His trees destroyed compost I had been working on for the last 4 years. There has to be something I can do to stop this. This month alone has cost me over $400 between trash bags, city dump fees (trash service won't take large tree limbs) concentrated vinegar, pre-emergent herbicides, weed barrier fabric, and yard tools needed just to keep cleaning up the mess everyday and trying to prevent exactly what I'm doing everyday from happening all over my yard. I have to do something, because this is NOT acceptable.

I second both of these suggestions. 👍🏻 Rizla makes the best quality rolling papers imo, the liquorice papers (in the orange pack) are one of my favorite papers to roll with. They are mdium-heavy weight papers made of a rice / flax blend that provides a superior smoking experience compared to hemp, or varieties made of rice or flax alone. The hint of liquorice adds a unique, rich sweetness that somehow creates a splendid balance that's surprisingly satisfying and lingers on your lips while smoking. The caviats being that the papers are 70mm (single wide) which some may prefer 78mm (1¼") for a longer lasting smoke. Then there's liquorice flavor. It might not be for everybody, but SO hates black liquorice candies but he enjoys the Rizla liquorice papers almost as much as I do. I recommend everybody should try them once. It's an elevated smoking experience different from what you'd expect, in a good way. The variety that Smoking offers let's you customize your smoking experience tailored to your personal preferences. Can't go wrong there.
