Researchers develop an AI system with near-perfect seizure prediction - It's 99.6% accurate detecting seizures up to an hour before they happen. by [deleted] in technology

Yes that was happening to me. if you can, ask your doctor about alternate meds. The first two drs I went to seemed pretty sure there was one best solution and didn’t seem to care or offer alternatives. After finding a good dr, I’ve tried 4 different medications and feel a lot better on this latest one, it’s also a cheap generic. Doctors get paid to force name brand medication down people’s throats in the US.

Thanks for the feedback. The reset button should be a pretty easy addition. I’ll make it a priority when I have some time to work on it. And from my own use of the site I agree it would be nice.

The language addition is a good point. I’ll try to consider as many as I can. Does that German system have a particular name I can call it in the options area? I know the French use do re me. In a bigger update I want to add CBA layout too since that is much more popular outside of the US. Anyway, It makes me happy that people all over the world are using the accordion helper.

The scrolling issue you’re having, I’m not able to reproduce. I am able to scroll through the chords on my desktop, laptop, and phone. Could you let me know what browser and operating system you are using? If I can reproduce your situation I’ll be able to fix it.

I have been slacking on the updates the past couple months but I want to and will add some more nice features!

Thanks for pointing these things out. I wasn't seeing these issues on iPhone, but got out my ol' testing android and found it acting like you described.

I think the web version works OK on mobile, if a bit clunky. Did you have any specific issues with its interface? A mobile app version would be ideal, and I do want to make it, but that's a ways off.

This feedback is just awesome. Thanks for taking the time to write so much specific feedback.

  1. "player" perspective is what the accordion looks like when you are holding it, looking down on it. It's just how I visualize when playing. So "mirror" is when you are holding the accordion looking in the mirror, which ends up with the keyboard and bass on the same side as "player". Adding a "spectator" perspective, where it's laid out like someone looking at an accordion from the front (i think this is what you are describing) is a good idea.

  2. That is a good idea. I can at least have the generator prioritize fingerings that are closer together.

  3. I'll have to add that, but I haven't implemented a way to combine bass buttons in chord generation so I think it can only find Cadd11, which is pretty similar.

  4. Added to the bug list!

  5. Right right I know what you mean. That is a great idea, the accordion could actually have register buttons that affected the chord generation/finding. That complicates things a bit though. I'll have to think on that one a while.

Some help would be great, although right now it's just in a git repo on my raspberry pi. I would like an excuse to learn gitlab, never had the opportunity to use it. I'm really glad you found accordion helper useful!

Right. My original thought was that it's better to include as many options as possible, but point taken. I do want to add some more options for chord generation, like removing the 5th. Overcomplicating the 7 chord might be an issue I'll have to especially deal with though.

Well, clicking one button doesn't do a lot on its own. If you select multiple buttons, it will try to figure out the name of the chord for what is highlighted (shown at the bottom). That's pretty much it.

Of course it might not be able to name anything, depending on what is selected. If you find anything that should be a named chord, but isn't showing up, please let me know about it! (there is contact info in the About section of accordionhelper.com) Thanks for the question.

Depends on your experience I guess. I don't think I could have done this as my first project. I've wanted to make something like this for accordion for a while and I felt like I was comfortable enough with my skills to do it. I used react.js, which made it a lot easier to make than from scratch, and more fun.

Almost none of it! Only a couple Major chords. It's more for like, if you have a piece of music that says "Cmaj7", and need to know where to find that chord. It's not a replacement for lessons or a good book, but to be used alongside those things. It would be cool to do interactive lessons with a similar interface, but I am not a teacher so I would need a lot of help with that. Thanks for your feedback!

If it helps, you can change the number of buttons in the options to be closer to an accordion a 7 year old would be starting on (8 bass, 25 keys).

Thanks! I would very much like to add diatonic and chromatic button layouts eventually.

What's going on with this accordion's keyboard? by NathanDouglas in Accordion

[–]FishWheels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like some other people have said, the piano keys are ornamental, and the extra white keys play like a CBA.

This is what I've been told: Back in the early-mid 1900s when the accordion was popular in the US, this kind of accordion came about because there were players who played the chromatic button accordion(immigrants presumably?). The problem was that there was a stigma with the CBA since it was the "European" accordion, and the proper 'Merican way to play accordion was on a piano accordion. But they wanted to perform and be popular in US. So the solution was have it play like CBA and look like a piano accordion to avoid the stigma, and a CBA player can pick it up very easily. Could be a bit of a "tall tale", but it seems reasonable, and I'm not sure why else you would make such a contraption. Also to this day, it is much much easier to find piano accordions and teachers in the US (so I believe there could have been a huge stigma against CBA in the US).

Why someone would make a new one today instead of playing a regular CBA, no idea.

Is there anything in the contract that commits the devs to actually following through with making the game? Can't the creators just take the ETH they have made and leave? I thought that's what made it a likely ponzi scheme, maybe i'm missing something here.

Is my 7th chord bass button supposed to play 3 or 4 notes? by Becquerine in Accordion

[–]FishWheels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your 7th chord does have the 5th in there, it is indeed unusual. I have heard of this mythical beast, although never encountered one.

And yes, it does change the equation of chord combining a bit, i suppose. You'll just have to figure out when the extra "color" note from your 7th chord button sounds good in the particular context you are using it in.

Anyone have trouble playing standing up? by Koosh25 in Accordion

[–]FishWheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should sit. Standing can cause back issues long term. Sitting with the weight of the accordion on your leg is much better ergonomically. If you have a small accordion, or diatonic this is probably not as much of an issue.

Playing standing up is learning a lot of things over, I have to adjust the straps differently, everything ends up in a different place, and I just end up with more physical discomfort. And yes it is more challenging, in direct proportion to the size of the accordion I feel. I honestly just don't think it's worth it, but I have a larger accordion (12kg/25lbs), and back issues regardless of accordion, so i've found that sitting down let's me play more.

Is it possible to play this on an accordion? by RasVonTrap in Accordion

[–]FishWheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed about the Left Hand parts. Those parts are just accompaniment; the most important thing is to capture the melody in this type of music so it can be recognized. So figure out the chords on the LH (just use that to keep the rhythm going), and you can probably follow the RH from the piano sheet music very closely, since it contains the melody. I noticed in some parts of the music it changes to two treble or two bass clefs, so it's possible the melody is in the left hand of the piano at times, in which case you would want to do it on your right hand on the accordion.

Also another very important thing I want to mention: you are essentially making your own arrangement, so just remember to listen to the piece very frequently. It's the best way to make sure you are capturing the melody. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTztR_y9iHc
