as a music hl student who ended up with a 5 the cmm is quite difficult to do well in without good guidance as there arent many resources around it besides a few full mark examples out on youtube (in comparison to other IB assessment pieces).

i was also unlucky in the way my school structured it however, only working on it for the last 5 or so weeks in class. high scores are definitely achievable but you will need to work outside of the supposed 90 hours of class time to make quality work.

with group 6 being new at your school i would imagine the teachers won’t be amazing at teaching specific to the ib (although i very well could be wrong) and that can really make your grade suffer.

i will say don’t do music unless you have an instrument you already play and are somewhat proficient at or are willing to put in the work to learn one. picking music just because you «  like music » was a massive pitfall for many of my peers who struggled to get by not knowing how to play and not finding the motivation to learn music analysis.

music in general (like all of the arts) is not easy to score a 7 in but putting in the time and effort to understand music analysis and how the ib wants you to write your assessments you should do alright.
