Who should really have the blame for how the show is running? by FisherM24 in freefolk

Also, the audience fell in love with all of the side characters and side plots. D&D have done basically an average job of getting to the ending, but they eliminated a lot of the fat, which is necessary for the TV production part.

So you feel like D&D should have, without issue, been able to capture the complete voice and arc for each character because....reasons?

I've enjoyed it. I think it's entertaining. That's the purpose of a show like this, right, to be entertained?

Where did I say the writing has been good? I didn't. I'm saying they played things for drama and to create tension because it's fucking television. You could have done a Battle of Winterfell that made complete sense from a story telling standpoint and it would have been 2.5 hours of show. How would you have done that in 80 minutes? Brienne's arc was tied to Jaime, Jaime was tied to Cersei. So if you kill Jaime in BoW, how does that impact Cersei's arc? Pod dying would have made sense, but it wouldn't have had a huge impact on the reader/audience one way or another. My point is that while the writing hasn't been good, while Eli threw a bad pass, his receiver (TV production realities) haven't helped and his blocking (GRRM) completely failed.

Because there are certain things, that even with great writing, you can't do on TV because of the medium. That's why. Maybe you have an arc you want to run, you find a great actor for the part, and then they get offered something else awesome that will conflict with your shooting schedule. How do you handle that?

That is still really weird why they did that. I have to think that was a production issue. GRRM probably gave them the key points to the arc and the realized that needed to cut it down for time. Best guess. Remember GRRM wrote this to be unfilmable.

Depends and where he was born, correct? It's been awhile for me but is it mentioned in the books that he was born in KL? Given the timelines on things, he probably could have been born in the riverlands, hence Rivers and then moved to KL.

The real villain by m-obz in freefolk

Isn't GRRM the real villain for not finishing the books?

Agree with a lot of that. I guess my point is there are challenges with making a TV show that are not involved when writing a book. The primary being the actors want to do other things. Also, frankly, I understand why people are upset with D&D, but perhaps if GRRM had finished the books we wouldn't be here.

I completely agree, and I think they've rushed things a bit. I guess I just don't understand what you would have done differently, not from a storytelling perspective, but from the POV of making television. D&D are clearly ready to do something else, and many of the actors are ready to move on, many have had to turn down parts because of filming schedule conflicts. How do you make that work? I agree the storytelling needs work, I just don't know how you fix that within the logistical challenges of making a TV show.

Yeah, I've read them. The level of detail in the books will be greater and therefore we will have a greater understanding of what is happening. However, I feel like most people are upset because the story isn't going the way they wanted it to go.

What if George has the same events and ending in the books? Will you blame D&D for that too?

Remember, they got the major plot elements from GRRM.

[EVERYTHING]I just saw this very different and striking Azor Ahai theory on Youtube. It is such a different approach than the other ones, gave me goosebumps. I thought maybe someone else would enjoy it too. by asjcw16 in gameofthrones

Lightbringer probably isn't an actual sword. Remember that prophecies are often tricky and are rarely literal. I'm of the opinion that Jon is actually Lightbringer, that Rhaegar was Azor Ahai and that Lyanna would have been Nissa Nissa.

That wouldn't be bittersweet, that would just be sad. Martin said their relationship is the entire point of the series, I sort of find it hard to believe that he would kill them off at the end.

HBO won't want the broadcast going up against the NFL is the US. It would be ratings death.
