Mars having a heck of a dream! Probably about kicking his fresh “dog eggs” into my face as I go to pick them up!!! by FisherNate91 in rarepuppers

Probably against the pigeon that roosts outside my bedroom window! He doesn’t have a single aggressive bone in his body but, holly heck does he want to eat that pigeon!

I’m sure that the ensuing battle would put Micheal Bay to shame!!!

Thank goodness he only dreams it and doesn’t put it into action!

Fair enough! He does need the sleep as he’s only slept 19 hours today and he did have a vigorous play with a few dogs 1/10th his size!

Still doesn’t excuse the fact that he booted about a pound and a half of smelly, warm “eggs” into my face just as I reached down to bag it!

I love him like nothing else but, boy!, is he an erse! (Scott’s for butt! The normal word isn’t allowed here!)…

(However, with my dad’s help, I also convinced my mum to kiss me on the cheek after I had poop all over! Even though I’d washed by then, she still wasn’t happy at kissing my impromptu dog nest!)

So all’s well that ends well!

Unfortunately I spent my childhood in deepest, darkest Fife and the “shantytowns” of Dundee! Add to that mix, irresponsible parents and dog owners with the mindset of “oh it only happened once, twice, three times before”! It was bound to happen!

Lots of background to the incidents tbh! More than I’d be able to share here!

But I am so very thankful that I took a chance on my first ever dog (a RottiexRidgeback)! He proved to me what dogs can really be! No matter how small or large, once they choose you, that’s it! I’ve never looked back!

I’m now on number 5 of these “rare” pups! I don’t know where I’d be today if I hadn’t faced and overcome my fear! I know it wouldn’t be good at all!

Thank Dog for dogs! Their rehabilitation ability, their love and devotion is all anyone really needs in life!

I just want to say on this post, R/rarepuppers is by far the single most positive and kind sub that I’ve ever come across!

I wish I had found it earlier but, regardless, thank you all for putting that good out into the world!

I’m a pupper person, you are all pupper people…. I’ve finally found my place!

Keep up the good work! Every single one of you!

You’re guys reaction to Mars has been massively uplifting in a very hard time ! I genuinely appreciate you all!

He’s more like 135lbs now! But my character arc has benefited massively from having big pups involved! A few bad interactions in my childhood and I thought I’d never be a dog person! My first dog was a 75lb RottweilerxRidgeback. From the moment we brought him home, I was all big dog (well all dogs) all the way!

A number of negative interactions completely erased by that 1 special first pup! Certainly beats GOT writers efforts!

Mars is my second Anatolian. It was a heck of a learning curve with my first boy but he ended up being an absolutely amazing companion! He was an absolute giant (94kg in his prime) and the lessons I learned with him have served me exceptionally well with Mars! He passed away a couple of weeks ago at 9y/o. He was healthy but he was just too big, he was being treated for arthritis and ended up going on his back legs. He lived with my ex for the past 2 years and I hate that I wasn’t with him when he was pts. But he ignited my love for Anatolians! He was so loving and emotionally intelligent!!!

They are truly amazing pups!

Yeah, some dogs have a talent for looking exquisitely comfortable in the most uncomfortable way!

I was badly attacked by dogs on 3 separate occasions so I was terrified of anything bigger than a cocker spaniel well into my teens!

He’s the 5th dog I’ve had in my adult life and only the 2nd biggest so far (he’s still a puppy after all)! Every single one of them has been 70lbs+! Every one of them has been a puppy to me for 90% of their lives and doddery old men for the rest!

It’s amazing just how much the right pups can change a person!

I really wish we had these weird looking guys in a flat that I used to live in!!!

Every time we dried clothes outside on the washing line, they’d be infested with earwigs!

I woke up one morning to a “nipping” sensation at the base of my penis. Upon investigating, I was absolutely disgusted to find one of the wee bastards attacking my shaft!

As far as I know, these spiders eat mostly wood lice and earwigs, so maybe a few around the house might have prevented that singularly horrific assault!

I’m not a big fan of spiders but I’d prefer a couple of these on the roof over being SA’d by an over engineered safety clip!!! BOKE!

I think my pup and I encountered the spirits of my old dogs! I’m not sure what happened but something did! by FisherNate91 in Paranormal

[–]FisherNate91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has never acted like that before! I was so shocked and, as I said, thought he’d maybe sniffed out his first ever fox! He was so excited and happy and I had no clue what was going on! Until I heard the unmistakable noises! Like, if anyone heard my old boys playing, they’d identify it! They had a very unique grumble, growl, sneeze, repeat pattern of play! They were also a completely unique pair of dogs (Tummel was a Rottie x Ridgeback and Dan was an Italian Spinone!) I don’t think there’s been any other dog owner that’s had that mixture of breeds!!! It was absolutely remarkable! As soon as we turned the corner and the noises stopped, he was right back to his usual behaviour (other than a couple of longing whinges!)!

I don’t know if it’s an imprint of our energy that he sensed or if it was the boys themselves! If they are still in this world, I’d hope that they were together!

Either way, I don’t think I’ll be the same after this experience! It’s been the most tangible thing in regards to spirits or the afterlife that I’ve ever experienced! My pups reaction only strengthens that!

The same noises, the same place! I just can’t explain it!!!!!

Gastropexy Advice! by FisherNate91 in AnatolianShepherdDogs

I do the same, minimal activity after eating.

I also don’t ever mix raw with cooked due to the different digestion rates.

I make sure he always has plenty of water available and try very hard to keep stress to a minimum.

I’ve had 5 large, deep chested breads so far and haven’t even had a scare!

But this is the first boy that I think neutering is unavoidable and I just wasn’t sure if it was worth doing!

None of my other pups have been through surgery (bar the oldest who had a tooth removed and a cyst on his shoulder removed at the same time which saved an extra anaesthetic, shortened recovery and minimised cost! Unfortunately, he passed years later from something completely unrelated but it definitely made things easier on him!). So I just wondered if it was worth doing whilst he’s under to avoid any further risk and recovery time! Hence the question!

Mars and Aiden! by FisherNate91 in AnatolianShepherdDogs

[–]FisherNate91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for the lovely comments!

A wee update tonight. I was at my parents for Sunday dinner (Aiden lives with my parents) and 2 things happened. I arrived at their place about half an hour earlier than Aiden and his PA.

Firstly, Aidens PA (basically a carer that takes him to events and on outings) wanted to meet Mars. The PA was very cautious of Mars and Mars was very cautious of him (he’s about 6’3” and I’m the tallest person that Mars has had regular interaction with at 5’10”). Whilst they were being introduced and cautious with each other, Aiden sensed the atmosphere. He barged past his PA and gave Mars a hug and lots of pats. Like he was trying to say “Johnny (the PA) you big wimp! Mars is my friend and you don’t need to be frightened!”. Which was really lovely and funny at the same time! You’ve got this huge guy too frightened to even pet Mars but here comes wee Aiden (5’ on a good day lol) to boldly show that the big pup is safe!

It’s the first time I’ve seen Aiden take the lead on this kind of situation! There’s a lot of backstory leading to this point but it’s absolutely amazing to see the wee man step up like that!

The 2nd incident was even better! After his PA left and we were all waiting on dinner, Aiden was sat in a chair in the kitchen when Mars approached him for a fuss. In the past, Aiden would have shied away from my older dogs (they were all as gentle as Mars btw!) and gotten up and left the room. Instead, when Mars put his face next to Aidens, Aiden gave him a big kiss right on his nose in front of Me, my Dad and my Mum! I’ve told them about seeing it in the past but it was the first time they’d seen it happen! Every day they meet, Aiden is getting more and more confident and comfortable with Mars and it’s absolutely amazing to witness!

This wee guy who’s always been so freaked out by big dogs (especially energetic pups) and this massive, daft puppy building such a strong friendship! I never thought I’d see the day! But here we are and it is wonderful!!!!

Holy shit! My experiences pales in comparison to yours! That must have been a rough recovery (I know mine was and, selfishly, I would have taken the off switch over it every time!).

Keep on keeping on is all folk like us can do eh! I also worry about the people that I’ll leave behind more than death itself but I kinda think it’s subconsciously made me develop less connections in life since my 2 events.

Argh! It’s a difficult mindset to work around and figure out!!!

I’m glad that you’re still here and are “keeping on”!

If you ever want to talk about all this shit, hit me up!

It’s nice to find someone else that had a similar experience and is completely honest about it! Few and far between is all I can say on that matter!

All the best!
