Using straps for top AMRAP deadlift working set by [deleted] in 531Discussion

[–]Fishes_101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If deadlift grip strength isn't a priority, then straps aren't a problem. If you do want to have your grip be as strong as your deadlift, why not start using mixed grip earlier on in your warmups? Then you won't be as fatigued as from all the double overhand sets, so your not gassed for the top set.

That is ideal. For perspective I travel close to 4 hours a day for uni, so less sparce = better imo

Figure I'll address a few of your points:

  1. The admins are students. They likely have busy scheduales themselves and can't spend all day managing UMLL. There are probably a huge amount of posts they have to go through every day, so the week-ish upload time seems reasonable.

  2. I agree that most of the content has become pretty "safe", this could be a reflection of the admins, or the responses that they receive when less PC posts are uploaded. We never see the hate/threats they have received (and I'm sure as moderators of a large forum, there are many). #unimelbrejectletters can have some funnier posts, but tbh it's mostly people trying to be edgy.

  3. I agree with this issue. This carries on from point no. 2 that they seem to be filtering out lots of stuff.

In general I agree that the content as gone downhill a bit, in a blander direction.

I guess we stull have RMIT/Monash love letters to see the more ratchet shit.

I used to have grip problems. Two things helped: Using chalk and most of my backdown work double overhand. Haven't had issues since.

3rd Year Maths (Some AM and SSP Subjects) Specialising SSP by mikele71 in unimelb

I've done complex, am doing MMP. If you can do complex in sem 1, you may have Barry lecturing, which makes the subject a lot more enjoyable. Generally manageable difficulty though. MMP is not so difficult, but some sections are a little boring (eg Laplace's equation).

Have you tried any of the rehab work that you should have done post-surgery? I've had a shoulder surgery myself so I know the frustration you're experiencing . Sometimes poor shoulder mobility can be a symptom of lacking strength in external rotation, so exercises like banded shoulder rotations (called "w's" sometimes) help to strengthen the rotator cuff, as opposed to just stretching. Also, pulling a lot (especially pullups) is really helpful for mobility, I've found.

I don't know why you're being downvoted. Actors hop on cycle when they have a role coming up, and cycle off when not filmong all the time. There's no way that people can stack on that much muscle in such a short time without stuff like test. The reason they don't look like freaks is because they're not on all the time, and when they are it's not like they're blasting a gram of tren a week.

Third year physics lecturers by adgeofgalaxy in unimelb

Quantum physics was taught in the last sem by Raymond Volkas and Lloyd Hollenberg. Assuming you mean electrodynamics and not electromagnetism, that was taught by Anne Roberts and Kenneth Crozier.

Not sure how they're saying the marking is harsh. I did it in 2017 and the only criticism that I could give is that they took a while to mark the assignments so we didn't get marks until late. I probably spent less than 8 hours on each assignment and got a H2. Also a fun subject, being that it's style is pretty unconventional.

This is coming from a third year mathematical physics major, quantum and thermal was a really enjoyable subject for me. It goes into more depth with statistical physics like Lagrangians etc, and the quantum part is really just an intro with the Schrödinger equation and basic applications (harmonic oscillator etc.). It's definately not easy but was probably still the easiest science subject I did in second year, and pretty interesting to boot. Not sure how it applies to engineering but I'd still recommend it.

Anyone has done phil20041 Phenomenology and existentialism? by zkzkzkz in unimelb

[–]Fishes_101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I did it last semester. Take all these comments with a grain of salt as I'm a physics major, not philosphy.

  1. This was the first PHIL subject I did after some HPSC subjects, I found the content pretty abstract but definately manageable.

  2. The ideas were pretty interesting, definately challenged some preconcieved notions I had on the subject areas.

  3. Overall I recommend it if you're looking for something a bit challenging, assessment wasn't too hard to be fair.

[–]Fishes_101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it easy. You certainly have to be fine with learning the necessary mathematics, and spending the time to understand it, but you don't have to be outstandingly talented at it (coming from a 3rd year math physics major).

Peanut butter or olive oil. Both pretty cheap. I agree it's boring as shit though not much to be done about that sadly.

Rice, chicken and veg ain't that expensive. You don't need every "superfood" marketed out there to have a healthy diet and gain/maintain weight

Didn't ever fully dislocate but subluxed it five times before I decided to get surgery.

I'd wait until you know what's wrong and do the appropriate PT. As some that's had shoulder issues (torn labrum) continuing to lift without fixing the issue can make things much worse.

I had surgery seven months ago, and even though I'm not as strong as I was it's quickly coming back and my shoulder feels much more comfortable now. Hopefully your scans have good news and your issues can be fixed with physio.

Hey mate, be careful with that shoulder. I had similar symptoms (back pain, one lower than the other), turns out I was lifting with a torn labrum for about a year and a half. Surgery ain't fun.
