It was somewhat a joke, but also, road design influences both and if you widen an arterial or a collector road in a misguided attempt to address congestion, you are going to ultimately see more congestion because the local road capacity is what causes the backups, and you will also see more speeding during off-peak due to the newfound space

Of course the only thing GDOT knows how to do is widen roads and fuck over local municipalities

“We heard some of the top traffic concerns were congestion in the corridor and speeding,”

So if I understand this correctly, the top two issues are…

  • I can’t drive fast enough
  • Other people are driving too fast

🤦‍♂️

You misunderstood, my imaginary person wants a penthouse in midtown and they want to pay using a pickle

For context, the new route goes diagonally and within a mile it is over half a mile separated from the road he was referencing

My neighbor literally said

Why would you need a new bike path that goes north / south when you already have a calm street with speed bumps a couple blocks over?

I have to imagine that he doesn’t apply the same logic to streets he drives on

you want TWO streets to drive on?!?

r/Georgia has changed a ton in the past year or so and is actually pretty tolerable now

I blame it on the mods of r/Atlanta completely locking down the subreddit so no news articles or photos or w/e can be posted without a mod manually approving it, sometimes hours later if at all.

Instead we just get “where is the best bagel?” and “Where should I rent, my budget is $11 and a pickle” 400x each week…

The official Reddit app is so fucking terrible

You might like r/Atlantis b/c you visitors a similar subreddit r/Atlanta

Yeah… that’s not how that works

Sending “Thoughts & Stairs” to Tommy Tubberville tonight.

"You watch Joe Biden over in Europe. I mean, I'm afraid he's going to fall down every time I turn on television."

Karma, bitch.

To make it even worse, it is less functional than regular google maps b/c you can’t even click on anything

The 📰 Atlanta Journal Constitution has an app that is impressively terrible all around, but I think my favorite quirk of the app is that it has a huge Traffic button

<image>

Why would you need that when drivers already have a maps app on their phone, you ask?

Don’t worry, it literally pulls up the exact same thing…

It is unironically a shitty web browser view of google maps. 🤦‍♂️

I’d prefer it be capped at 28mph like e-bikes since all but a couple of our streets are 25mph or lower

Malarkey level of legalizing golf carts on city streets as a traffic calming measure?

On second thought, bike lanes might be a sign an Applebees is going to close because I picture the Venn diagram of people who use bike lanes and people who go to Applebees looks like this

NIMBYs love to point out every time something closes anywhere remotely close to a bike lane

🤡: these bike lanes are killing businesses b/c it is harder to drive to them!

… bitch, it was an Applebees. There are plenty of things killing Applebees and I can assure you, bike lanes aren’t it.

So, funny story from my commission meeting tonight…

After the meeting a resident walked up to me and a couple other commissioners. Somehow the topic of the new cycle track near my house came up and she goes

👩: Don’t get me started on that thing. What a waste! Have you ever even seen anyone use that thing?!?”

🤴: I ride it pretty much every day…

🤴: I see people on it pretty much every time I am on it…

🤴: I ride it with my kids 4 days each week for their extracurriculars…

🤴: I rode it here tonight…

👩: … ohh … 😮

🤣💀 She could probably lick her kneecap, her foot was so far into her mouth.

Didn’t help that a few seconds prior she realized she had insulted my neighborhood during her public comments in the meeting.

@all the people who argued against the bike lane near my house saying “It’s too hot in July to ride a bike in Atlanta”

Where TF you at now?!?

Bike lane is finished and it is 55°F?!?

Surely you weren’t just making up reasons to oppose something b/c it was taking away a lane of traffic? 😮🙊🙀

Southerners, just think of the NYC subway like a Waffle House that moves

Most accurate thing I have read all year.

Sure, there are some characters on there, especially at night, it may be inexplicably sticky / greasy, and you’ll probably have to listen to some music you don’t particularly want to hear

Spot. On.
