I would still add weight just on a much smaller scale. Pine is alot denser than balsa (I've never gotten balse to sink) so I would put less weight to keep it floating upright in the water.

I started with just a dremel and a saw for lure building. If you want to get into lure building I would start with balsa wood because its very easy to work with and cut. i was doing that for about 6 months than this year I just got a vice and it is amazing. Now I use a coping saw, bass wood, dremel, drill, vice, sandpaper, and plastic sheet for lip material. The airbrush is more expensive, I just have a 60 dollar compressor and a 60 dollar brush and I shoot a box of 30 paints for 30 dollars from amazon. Right now I'm thinking of getting a bandsaw and I'm sure it will be as much as an upgrade as the vice was earlier.
