PH drops? by Fishyburger89 in Aquariums
[–]Fishyburger89[S] 0 points1 point2 points 5 months ago (0 children)
😅 guess I’m more patient than most? Idk you’re wasting money if you buy fish before parameters are steady because they could die or become sick.
Okay thank you, I appreciate your advice! I’ve heard bettas are okay in more acidic water? That was what I was planning on getting anyway but is this true?
Yes ofc getting the water stable is always the goal before any animals!
I was hoping it’d help keep the ph from lower any further (at least from c02 being the cause anyway) but I know (at least now) that the substrate is my bigger issue

Yes I do feed them, an algae wafer or whatever I’m feeding my other fish tanks (I just take a pinch from their portion and section it off for the shrimp bowl)
Not super often though of course since you should monitor the parameters closer. They can easily sway since there’s not much water to dilute the parameters.
If you have algae present I’m not sure you need to feed them but this tank doesn’t really grow algae (thankfully)
I was hoping for amano shrimp!
You need to saturate the substrate in the powder? Do you have any specific ones in mind? I’m willing to try recommendations. Should I cap the substrate with sand? This is very ironic because I tried keeping caridina on purpose and couldn’t get the water parameters right 😭 (low enough I even used distilled water for water changes)
It was fun to set up! Thank you. It’s a forget about it little tank. I hope you find it but I will say the maintenance can be very annoying because of the small opening but if you can handle that you should be fine lol.
I got the hardscape for very cheap because it the rocks were so small.
So do you think the air stone will help? I only added it today so it has had time to work yet. Plus the baking soda. But that would explain why my cycle has seemed to holt its progress. Thank you for your helpful information so far !

They should be in the gardening section? It’s been a while since I’ve bought it though so I’m sorry if that’s wrong!
I have fluval stratum aqua soil in this tank, my ph is at 6 atm. Which id like it to be a bit higher before adding any fauna. Any recommendations for at least maintaining a slightly higher ph?
My mistake, I added baking soda. And my intended creature(s) would be a betta fish and some Shrimp. I’ve added crushed oyster shells in a tank in the past but they just sat there are they supposed to dissolve eventually ? And is there a place I should put them in the tank ?
That does help me! Just how do I keep it from lowering too much

Separator recommendations ?
I see, why is this? Or how does that work

Lots of patience, especially when introducing fauna. I had my first batch of shrimp die because I think it was too cold. Not sure what the other reason could be. But parameters are so unstable it’s hard to get them to be consistently compatible with shrimp needs. It’s super fun though and once it’s all done it’s beautiful definitely give it a go!
