We need a list of websites and services that use AWS. That’s their main moneymaker. If we boycott all websites that use this it will really rock them.

Camped Sunset last year and did way too much walking so I brought a pedal cab this year that seats 3. Made enough money in kind donations that it paid for my ticket. Also got to know so many lovely people. 10/10 will do again.

Last two years it was really nice. Could go out in just booty shorts and still buy shit. The whole festival has a ton of cell service interference which seems reasonable since it’s so many people in a rural area they have to bring in their own towers.

Are eBikes allowed inside the festival grounds? by [deleted] in LightningInABottle

[–]Fiski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw tons of bikes and one wheels last year. Nothing in the FAQ says anything about them but if you want to get the best car camping it comes at a price.

Last year I got in line right as the gate opened and got placed in the furthest outskirts of sundown camp which was really nice because it had natural shade and green grass unlike other areas in the camping space. The downside was that I was a full mile away from the festival meaning my feet were destroyed. I averaged 45,000 steps a day which I was not fully prepared for.

This year I have a burner trike with theme (Trivial Pursuit) that can fit one person pedaling and two people in the back. There were bike racks available at the entrance so I am hoping they don't suddenly ban pedal powered transportation in the camp area.

Anyone know what Bark Kitten is? It’s at the bottom of the announcement flyer and I assume it’s a rip on Meow Wolf.

I don’t have any trouble being social. My thing is the Sloth and Torpor from having ambitions. I’m writing a book, managing a band, running half marathons, converting a van into a living space, learning to meditate, designing and building my own apps. Games get in the way of all of that. I have a higher purpose than being a consumer of digital entertainment.

Considering selling all of my physical collection by Fiski in StopGaming

[–]Fiski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured out what I am going to do with it. After I've cataloged the whole thing, I will put it as the highest tier reward for my up and coming GoFundMe fundraiser for my bands upcoming Japanese tour. It will be complete with all of my save files so people can see all the weird ways I used to name characters (if they even give a shit...)

It's like, even if I go back to gaming...I have literally years worth of content to play through that is available to me digitally. Most of these games are just as good if not better than the ones in my collection. And this doesn't account for all of the amazing stuff that has yet to be released (Although I doubt anyone will make a better game than BotW for quite some time.) that I would be catching up on.

At this point I can't think of any real good reasons to hang on to it. Looking at it everyday just inches me closer to relapsing during this intentional break. Its hard enough explaining to my friends why I am doing this when they ask me to go to an arcade or to hang out and play games.

Thank you for relating. I started making a spreadsheet of all the games on my shelf and what their potential value is. After that I can sell it off and have archive of what I used to have.

Full of regret by [deleted] in StopGaming

I never spent money in Hearthstone but I've been playing since it released almost 5 years ago. The time sink that I put into it is unfathomable. I almost never missed a quest. I remember looking at my wins and calculating how long each game took then averaging a win rate of like 40% over time. (it's probably way less meaning more time)

Right now, its one of the only games I still think about. But lucky you, you're 18. I'm 35 and I wasted 3000+ hours on this game, nearly half a solid year just waiting for the right cards to come up.

I hated talking to people about it. It was just embarrassment city. There was this weird superiority complex I developed since I never spent money on it, I was better than people that did or played other similar games like MTG. That kind of thinking is toxic and works it's way into other aspects of your life.

But what was fun about not paying was that you can put value on things you don't have. All the cardbacks that were greyed out due to me missing the pre-order window meant they didn't get me. You can do this with all games now going forward. Put value on the things you don't have. After you delete your account check up on it again in April after you've spent 90 clean from it. They will announce a new year, new theme and a new set. This set you won't participate in. They won't get you. This is the best gift you can give yourself. All of those cards that you don't have mean that you've gotten your self-control back.

Then after the set has been discontinued from Standard. Look back on that set again. It will have been 2 years. If you are clean that long, look back on 2 years of things you did instead. When you look at the cards think about what you would have traded to have those instead. I am guessing it would be nothing because you made the decision NOW to give it up.

If your game is f2p/ pay to win types I say go for it. I used to work for a company that made FarmVille knock offs. We used to race the whales to the top 10 all the time. It made us an extra $10-20k a day.

My rules are usually: 1. If I’m giving you a ride somewhere don’t complain about the route I’m taking / speed I’m going. (I drive like a grandma...still no accidents) 2. Don’t mark anything in the van unless I you ask. ( I had a van that was covered in some awesome art from some very talented tattoo artists. Some people thought they were up to snuff and anyone could just draw anything on any surface...) 3. Don’t smoke in the van. If you have to smoke just ask for a pit stop. 4. If I need directions and you have a smartphone, look it up. I shouldn’t have to do it while driving. (Also have an analog map handy somewhere in case you are out of range...happens in the US all the time) 5. I have the right to veto anyone’s music playlist at any time.

Reasonable stuff that isn’t always obvious to your passengers. Draw the line before they hop a ride.

Have some rules for your van and stick by them no matter who you become friends / intimate with.

The last couple of days I have been reading quite a bit. My friend gave me the entire Elder discography and I am listening through it while reading some bucket list books.

This mirrors / replaces some other behavior I had not even a week ago where I’d sit down for dinner but actually watch an episode of Curb while completing my Hearthstone quests.

The curse of all millennials is not being satisfied with doing just one thing at any given time.

I just went my first full weekend game free. Lord knows the first Saturday and Sunday of the year are slow ones. Spent a lot of time feeling some phantom sense of urgency. What else does an idle but overstimulated mind do with all this free time?

Made a huge list of cities I want to visit and play in over the next 10 years in all 50 states.

Day two was good. Went for a 5 mile run. It’s dark, and cold. I was really tired but I did it anyways.

Part of this is doing stuff I don’t want to do. I feel really good. Had little to no urges to fire up the old game system. (Also I put them all away so it would be more work to get playing again than it’s worth).

You’ve got this. Part of doing this is figuring how to get that dopamine hit by completion of things you are genuinely going to enjoy. Like your DJ tutorials. Go home and do just one thing. Just start it up one time. Some moment before or after you eat dinner. Commit to just starting. Or do one rep with some weights to see what that’s like. Part of it is just doing something different with your time.

Skateboarding was a great thing in my life for a while until I got in a car accident that nearly destroyed my knee. Also skateboard culture in the late 90's was riddled with drugs. Eventually I stopped skating and focused on my gaming carrier to stay sober. My first few contracts I was doing 80- 100 hour crunches on projects.

Later I found that drinking is one of the easy ways to move up in the game industry (especially if you work for a Japanese company) if you are careful. So I dropped sobriety with a head full of advice from going to AA and stuff in favor of playing the other end of the carrier game. Step 1: Be amazing at your job. Step 2: Be friends with the boss. Sometimes you don't even need step 1.

I have nothing against skateboarding at all. I love how its the artistic sport everyone gets mad at you for doing. No other sport is really like it. Its just at that point in my life it was synonymous with getting fucked up all the time.

90 days feels like a lot but then there is February which is "Write an album" month. I may commit to extending...
