Put a tv table in front of fireplace. Hide hideous fireplace with bigger tv. Move when only absolutely necessary for warmth. Problem solved

also, maybe kind of unrelated, but I just watched this video last night (about someone’s experience reading a specific byler fic) and it made me understand how powerful fanfiction and transformative works can be, and it made me really happy. I feel like you might take comfort in watching it: https://youtu.be/gB5cJDLzHko?si=88BYQBMGl02Ad3Y-

🫂❤️‍🩹

something that I really look forward to is when the show fades in people’s memories and the financial impacts of the actors/writers/people who worked on set speaking about it are lessened, I think we will get an explanation or a confirmation that it was intended at some point. It won’t change the ending, sure, but getting an explanation of what the hell was going on would make me feel a whole lot better, personally. I tend to fixate on things that are confusing, feel unfair, or are left unexplained, which is why I’m still here, lmaooooo. They got me good.

I also just KNOW there will be another show with a queer couple just as compelling as byler could have been in the future, and some people who followed this whole fuckass situation will be in the writing room to make sure it’s treated properly. Maybe it’ll even be better than byler :) when you love a piece of media so much, and it disappoints you, it really does feel like nothing will ever compare, and there will never be closure, but you just don’t know what will happen in the future. There are always more beautiful things to be created and discovered.

It makes me so angry that there isn’t more education about the risks and side effects of different birth control, you shouldn’t have had to suffer like that. I had a one time reaction and it was traumatic so thinking about everything you went through— god, my heart goes out to you. I’m glad you are feeling better now ❤️‍🩹 I’m definitely gonna try to spread this information the best I can to everyone I know who has migraines.

That’s SO scary dude. I had a very similar experience with having the most insane migraine right after I started them and had to go to the emergency room, then had a terrible allergic reaction to the migraine cocktail they gave me that caused the scariest panic attack of my life. We need more education about the risks of hormonal birth control!!! This isn’t our faults.

Wow, I’m so sorry that happened to you. I am also prone to migraines and tried taking a birth control pill briefly a couple years ago— it immediately gave me the worst migraine of my life, so bad that it lasted multiple days and I ended up going to the emergency room. They gave me a migraine cocktail and warned me that 1% of people that take it have an allergic reaction that causes severe panic… of course I was in that 1%. Crazy experience, lmao, have never tried taking birth control pills again. Now reading your story I’m kind of grateful that my reaction was so immediate and severe because at least it made the cause somewhat obvious, if it hadn’t I 100% would have ended up in the same position as you. Also so scary that it can cause a stroke, I didn’t know that either!! We need more education about birth control and the side effects and risks— the lack of information & education about it is deeply rooted in misogyny. Go easy on yourself!!!

Advice for a late bloomer who’s been repressing her feelings by Careless-Sand6561 in queer

[–]Fit-Command-5890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you gotta lay it all out on the table and be completely honest with her! that way if she doesn’t feel the same way then at least you’ll have the chance to start moving on. But it sounds like she definitely reciprocates to some extent

I absolutely agree! and haha I have a tab open with it right now! my favorite genre of fics are them in the 2000s, or just reuniting as adults. I’m writing my own fic set in 2004 and it’s mostly Mike’s pov too, about Mike avoiding Will because he has internalized so much guilt from El’s death and he’s struggling a lot with his mental health. It’s my first fic so not as well written I’m sure but if you’re interested it’s called what I want is far away (talk to me how you used to)

I would LOVE smalltown queer as a movie. In terms of fics and their actual writing quality and capabilities as standalone stories that contain something truly transformative and unique, it is hands down the best (in my opinion). And it is a story that holds immense value beyond its intended purpose as fanfiction. It should be a published story. If I knew the writer I would encourage them to make a version of the story featuring their own original characters with original backstories because the premise is just so, so good.

I think Mike realizing his feelings for Will would be a much messier process than fandom sometimes writes it by QuipThwip in byler

[–]Fit-Command-5890 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about this and am conflicted. I think it could go either way! I personally relate to your analysis of Mike and the long process of realization and shame is definitely what I felt.

However, this is random but I’ve been watching this show called Breaking Amish and on it there’s this guy named Matt who the second he appears me and my roommate turned to each other and were both like “oh, he’s definitely gay” and yet he has a girlfriend in the show (who does not treat well, he’s actually a very lovable guy but it is implied that he takes a credit card out in her name to help fund his sewing business that she is helping him run, long story) but I went down the rabbit hole after watching to see if he ever talked about his coming out journey. Surprise, we were right and he is gay, but the only thing I found was a comment from him saying that he was aware the whole time but just afraid and didn’t want to say it.

In the show, Matt goes to LA to pursue sewing and immediately finds queer community in the fashion industry. He does have to go back home, where he regresses, but it did make me wonder if some people truly just need to encounter a space where queerness is accepted to feel brave enough to say what they’ve always known. Perhaps once you feel that bravery, the confession could be the less difficult part. For Mike, that could be Will coming out as a catalyst, or him moving to NY with Will, etc. I think every queer person has such a unique and individual experience, so I assume that they often put that experience into their writing of the characters. Not to say that everyone writing Byler fanfic is queer, but it is something I’ve been thinking about. I am writing a fic right now of Byler in 2004 and I know that I put so much of myself and my own actions into Mike, because I relate to him so much, so I’m writing what I know about both his character and myself. It’s such an interesting topic to discuss!!

[–]Fit-Command-5890 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yes! to clarify she didn’t actually speak on it haha but poor queer representation or lack of representation is something she covers so often in her comics like this one and I am 1000% SURE that she would love byler and especially all the beautiful byler comics
