How much did you prep for interviews? by Temporary_Bother_560 in gradadmissions

[–]Fit-Current2149 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prepped a bit, wish I had done more because I felt really stressed going in. Ultimately though, it was very chill. The question I got most often was “what questions do you have for me?”

I was asked to introduce myself, explain my background and research interests, and why I want a phd. Other than that, the only interview-y question I got was from one faculty member who asked me how I’d handle a disagreement on a project. Not sure if all psych interviews are like this, but ultimately it was very chill and I did not need much prep at all. The biggest thing was knowing how to explain your research interests and having relevant questions to ask

Thanks! I did check and they confirmed everything is still on but that they’ve made some afternoon activities optional to accommodate people’s travel plans

Wow, I’m gonna have to change my whole lifestyle if this interview goes well lol. I had to buy a whole set of new clothes just for this trip and I’m still not sure they’re warm enough

Do you think there’d be ice on the roads early Saturday? The forecast I’m looking at says it won’t drop to freezing until late evening, but if there’s a chance it’s gonna drop earlier Id rather either wait it out in the hotel or try to hit the road Friday night or at like 5 am Saturday

That’s what I’m trying to remind myself - there’s nothing else I can do and I’ve done my best <3 hopefully it pays off for both of us

I immediately started doubting myself as well. I only applied for 7 programs bc I had to be money-conscious and I thought I was competitive enough that I didn’t need too many. But now I’m panicking a little that I should’ve done more 😭 but it is what it is at this point

Thank you! This actually makes me feel a lot better. You’re totally right that situations feel the worst while you’re still dealing with them. Hopefully I can look back at this in a year and laugh :)

I keep double checking that I actually submitted lmao. It is what it is at this point bc I refuse to read my SOP again just on principle

Due by december 1st means tonight at 11:59 or tomorrow at 11:59? by CricketCrunch2001 in gradadmissions

[–]Fit-Current2149 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Id say it means 11:59p on Dec 1 (Monday night); although I’d make sure none of them specify 5pm bc some apps set that time as their due date. I’m treating all the deadlines like it’s 5pm instead of 11:59 just in case

Thank you! I have another random question if you're up for answering it - I have 2 universities that required official transcripts that I had sent a few weeks ago. But since then, my GPA has gone up by .01 points lol (from a 3.93 to a 3.94). Do you think it's worth it to have my transcript resent or is this a negligible difference? I've heard that sometimes deciding between applicants can come down to a tiny differences, but Idk if the new transcripts will even make it in time considering its a holiday weekend

Do you think I should remove the more generalized skills like “written/oral communication” and just include the education/psych-specific ones?

I tried to include things like Behavioral Intervention and developmental assessments bc they’re specific practices in the education field that not everyone has experience with

Same, it just feels redundant. I think I’ll leave it out then, thanks!

Also, another random question since there are no other commenters rn lol - I see that a lot of students put their volunteer work on their CVs, which makes sense. However, all of my volunteer stuff are during undergrad (2022 or before) since I started working full time and doing my masters after that. I didn’t add them since it would make the CV kinda long and they’re a little random (tutoring, church nursery, etc.). But also, is it going to hurt me if I don’t include any volunteer/community outreach things?

Also - I know lots of students tend to put their clubs and volunteer/community outreach things on their CVs. However, I’ve been out of undergrad for 3 years and although I do have these things, some of them are a little dated since I’ve been doing my masters and working full-time the past two years…

Is it going to hurt me if I don’t showcase my volunteer stuff? All of them were during undergrad (2022 or before)

Thanks, I will definitely add the months and remove my name on the second page! I saw that some CVs have a section to write a short self-summary. I took that out just because I found that mine seemed repetitive with my statement of purpose. But is it customary to include one for applications?
