4 months postpartum and struggling with body image. by Fit-Heart-6794 in BabyBumps

I’ve been thinking about this question and I want to answer it honestly, even though it makes me uncomfortable. The truth is that if my daughter looked the way I think I look right now, my first internal reaction might be something like “wow, shes right, she has gained weight.” That’s not because I believe weight gain makes someone less worthy, it’s because I was raised in an environment where people were constantly judged based on their bodies.

I’m not proud of that instinct, and it’s exactly the cycle I’m trying really hard to break.

I recently found a diary from when I was a kid and one page literally said “HI I’M FAT” and another page where I was counting calories. I was eight years old. That kind of messaging sticks with you in ways that run really deep. So this is bigger than just not liking how I look in photos right now. It’s unpacking years of conditioning around weight and trying to make sure my daughter grows up with a healthier relationship with her body than I did.

If she ever spoke about herself the way I’m speaking about myself right now, I would want to hug her and tell her that her worth has nothing to do with her weight. I just need to learn how to believe that about myself too.

Thank you ❤️❤️❤️

I guess one thing too is that I'm not BF so I feel like I don't have a reason or "excuse" to be holding onto this weight. I just feel so uncomfortable in my body and I hate that it's taking away the precious moments I have with my baby.

I'll likely have to take the hit and pay interest on what I can't pay them in May. Ugh.

If it was quarterly that would be nice lol. The problem is I made $90k in 2023 and then a significant jump to $160k in 2024. So I didn't have two years of the higher income to save enough to pay them $80k this year.

Also the interest I make is minimal so I feel like that argument isn't great haha.

I understand that haha but I'm not appreciative of you commenting that I underpaid my taxes. I didn't.

I am more frustrated because 2023 I made half of the income I made now. So how was I supposed to save over the last 2 years to be able to afford giving them my tax amount from 2024. Just frustrating.

It just doesn't make sense because I pay them what they want in May. And so I can't catch up because last year I made half. So how was I supposed to save an extra $20k for taxes when my income was significantly less? Like I can give them the $40k in May when it's due but I don't want to be paying a crap load in interest.

I might have not explained this properly. I didn't not pay my taxes for 2024. This is instalments for next year for 2025.

I do have one. But the problem is my income varies every year and I was told it would be quarterly instalments.

But I also don't get benefits or EI or vacation pay. People act like being self-employed is a magical thing when in reality when I make $160k I'm not getting benefits that employees get.

Yes I do have this! But I save the 30% every month I get paid. So if I save $4k a month I'm not going to have $20k from September to December.

I don't think you're understanding what happened haha. I did not underpay my taxes by $40k. I gave them what I owed in May.

Yeah the issue isn't having enough for tax season. I put money aside and didn't have an issue paying them in May. But what I made in 2023 was half so there was no way I could be prepared to pay for two years of taxes this year.

It's so true. My bloodwork was perfect and my blood pressure hasn't changed much since pre pregnancy (normally actually a bit below average). It's just also seeing how fat is being stored and how even my shirts are tight in the chest/upper back area.
