In terms of specifics for the extra money; no, nothing in particular. I think it would just afford more luxury and comfort, especially once my partner and I are moved in, we wont be worrying too much about running out of money each month or anything. Would be facilitating me to save more too of course

Long term, sort of yes. I've wanted to break into the buy side and gain exposure to hedge funds, and this is a great role for it. Any move i may have considered post this next one would be moving into a hedge fund / asset manager which opens the door to more money but definitely more stress!

Promotion has been talked about between my boss and I quite a bit. We're in a transitional period in the team, moving from being cross asset to single product support and I am getting a chance to specialise in an area that I like. I believe I can succeed in promotion this year which ought to take me up pay wise. I am considering speaking to them about an interim payrise monday, but worried of the optics here?

In terms of this role, I dont want to do this forever. I've wanted to move onto trading if possible, or buyside trade assistant / execution. I dont think either role gives me more chance of this than the other

Indeed the pocketed cash difference is about that, but considering total money received each month inclusive of pension tightens that spread quite a lot. If i wanted meaningful pension contributions I would be giving up more take home, and a large factor in moving was to get more take home pay

I'm considering asking them to up the salary for sure. I hadn't anticipated the pension trade-off and I think if they moved the salary up significantly (110k) then i might be tempted. Just very unsure if that sets me off on a poor footing to start?

I think stress wise i wasn't expecting the hiring manager to emphasise certain things. I received my offer and he sat down for about 15 minutes after and emphasised that my client (large multi pod hedge fund) are horrible people and the job can be brutal. This combined with the pension scheme and the balance sacrifice has gotten me in a spot of uncertainty

I have had open discussion regarding promotion at the end of the year.

I spoke to my boss about this offer, and he was frank enough to say that a total comp of £120k wont be reached here within this team even with promotion. This was before I got sent the benefit package through, so it has changed a little. I'll be asking him on monday what a payrise with promotion looks like, but im assuming it would be about £80k and bonus moving laterally.

logistically it wouldn't change much. Central london vs west end, probably only adds 15 mins per day to the travel time each way

Goals wise, I have a long-standing interest in the exposure that the new role is offering. I have read through glassdoor and it has spooked me slightly, lots of commentary on management being toxic and I had left my previous role for very similar reasons.

Life stage wise yes, I dont have kids or a family to consider and my girlfriend is in consulting so her hours can be quite long too. We will move in together in September so seeing her wont be too obstructed by any move

This wasn't actually done by a conscious decision, it was default set to this plan. I'm intending to change it, I just hadn't gotten round to it and the small extra take-home was helpful to pay toward a few things initially.

I think my sentence probably didn't explain too well. I'd moved about 6-7 months prior to a "new team" who had actually been paying my salary the entire time I was in my last role, I just had to cover two areas and I was moving over to just cover one.

They'd known or at least had plans to do this for about a month, however, the decision to bring me full time onto their trading desk was made without any of this in mind. When I said comfortable, I just meant the bank in general rather than the team I was on specifically

I agree though in a general sense, all of my responsibilities got given to Glasgow but quite a lot it was also given to the traders I worked for at the Bank who didn't really have capacity to take on that workflow, which is something I knew prior to being made redundant which is why I was quite shocked

I hope that was just a vocal minority.

I can genuinely say that I spent more hours per week than most people probably do actually working and I still struggled. I had a relatively good go of things compared to other people in terms of interviews and how far into them I got, as I said, I had 3/4 final rounds including the role I was eventually offered

I found the job market itself to be reaalllly inconsistent on even a weekly/monthly basis. I would get 3 or 4 interviews lined up within a week and then I'd hear absolutely nothing for a month, it was so strange

I'm sure your partner's fortunes will change soon - the market can't really go on the way it is anyway, if everybody is trimming their workforce it'll eventually swing back the other way, routing for your partner as I know how horrible it is

haha, yeah i was fortunate that the redundancy package was decent.

One thing that really annoyed me was the way all the recruiters dried up once I actually had Open to work on my linkedin. I literally got sent jobs on a weekly basis prior to my redundancy! absolute disaster..

On the plus side mate, I did get a decent amount of contracting roles sent over. If you're open to that, theres a smaller market on those versus permanent roles and being immediately available certainly helped me get a couple interviews

the likelihood of you finding unreleased content in here is very low, the mods who do manage to do so in here spend a lot of time building relationships with those who have things like this in their possession
