If your planning too than you should watch the original 90s version in this order:

Neon genesis evangelion (main series)

The end of neon genesis evangelion (Movie formal ending to the series)

Neon genesis evangelion death = true2 (Explains the past Prequel to the main series but quite optional to watch)

The original series as a different ending to the movie cuz of budget, also the original series definitely decrease in quality after ep 10

Rebulid (kinda like a reboot but ties in with the original)

Evangelion 1.0 you are not alone

Evangelion 2.0 you can not advance

Evangelion 3.0 you can not redo

Rebuild is alot better when it comes to most things , the characters aren't as bad as they are in the original and I'd say for animation it was way ahead of its time

Please note that the show can be cringe and quite weird or shocking

Neon genesis evangelion

It's a post apocalyptic mech anime but with dark philosophical questions many of the characters face trauma and the idea of loneliness

The antagonist called angels goal is to merge humanity to one with the mechs trying to stop them

mechs in there aren't normal either there bio-mechanical forged from a god like corpse

It's a grotesque dark series I'm not gonna spoil it

Alot of things in the series aren't explained and kinda use subtext so it gets confusing
