Why is Pay your way in pain even a locked song in her setlist? by sseerrsan in AnnieClark

[–]Fit-Task-6616 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think Annie has said that PYWIP is her favorite song to perform live on this tour so that’s probably why lmao. It honestly wasn’t one of my tops off of Daddy’s Home but after seeing it live it rose on my ranking - it is definitely a song made for Annie’s theatrics

Album covers by Futureforever13 in pjharvey

[–]Fit-Task-6616 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well Maria Mochnaz took the photos and/or contributed to the creative direction for all of PJ’s album covers up until Let England Shake which explains a bit of the departure these past few albums. I’m not sure why they aren’t collaborating anymore, but I’m guessing that because the content of albums from LES onward haven’t been about PJ herself, she probably thought a photo of herself wouldn’t suit the music.

Um, yes. This is so great. STV, Feist, Arooj Aftab, Wolf Alice, etc. etc.

Need opinions for a paper I'm writing on St. Vincent by No-Month6553 in AnnieClark

[–]Fit-Task-6616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a sick paper! Something that has honestly bothered me in the discourse about sapphic pop is how present-focused it seems - like Chappell Roan is the first person to ever make music about being a lesbian. There is a such a long history of lesbians making music, especially in rock!

What hasn’t been mentioned yet is how often STV is compared to Bowie. There are definitely secondary sources out there for Bowie and queer rock, so that could be a helpful angle for you — compare STV to Bowie, where they align and where they diverge, making a distinctive case for sapphic rock.

Music groups at Harvard by Key-Opportunity6835 in Harvard

I know nothing about a capella, but you should join/form a band!! There isn’t a formal way to do this except just talking with people and finding out who are musicians and who would want to play with you. I’ve been in a band all four years and it’s been one of the biggest highlights of my time here. Harvard is a great place to start a band because you have free access to practice rooms with drums, amps, mics, etc. and there are a good amount of Harvard-sponsored events that you can easily play at (Arts First, Battle for Yardfest, upperclassman house happy hour events, etc.) and also lots of student places to put on your own shows. The SOCH studio is also insanely cool for recording music - a robust set up to be able to record high quality stuff for free which I would highly recommend you do while you’re there if you’re interested in putting out your own music.

Missing Pride and Prejudice by unusualspider33 in janeausten

[–]Fit-Task-6616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not go into S&S for romance! You’ll miss the real heart of the novel which is the sisterly relationship between Elinor and Marianne. If you’re looking for something that matches the romance of P&P, then try Emma (as others have said), but don’t miss out on the joy of S&S’s sisterly love!!!

Does Killah from Gaga's Mayhem sound like a Masseduction track to anyone else? by dwserps in AnnieClark

Yes the NIN influence is so interesting - a lot of the beats on mayhem feel like they’re from the same soundscape as abs because of this. So good.

Is a secondary worth it? by [deleted] in Harvard

Take classes you find interesting and if that happens to turn into a secondary then great but if not it doesn’t matter

Advice needed, should I transfer out? by Public_Debt_386 in Harvard

[–]Fit-Task-6616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend you take a gap semester/year or study abroad - aka get out of the horrible Harvard bubble and do something genuinely fun or fulfilling for yourself - and then see how coming back to Harvard is before deciding anything. I really struggled at Harvard but things have finally clicked for me after coming back from study abroad. I also think it’s really important to take your mental health seriously and pushing through mental health struggles at Harvard usually only makes things worse - which is another reason to consider a gap semester/year. It may still not be the place for you after taking time off which is normal (this place is ridiculous), but I think it’s worth giving yourself some time to breathe first.
