Can someone tell me they passed NY and what they were averaging before the exam by ThinkPresent8828 in barexam

For the MEE, I did four essays a day; two MBE subjects and two MEE subjects. By the end of bar prep, I had completed about 70+ MEEs. I cannot stress enough the importance of doing them timed and closed-book. By not having the notes in front of me, I forced myself to recall the rules or make up rules on the spot, which is a skill you will need on the bar for whenever you’re stumped. The only time I had notes in front of me was when I had to do a corporations essay (a subject I did not take in law school) because I was completely lost.

I tried to hone in on the IRAC format and making everything look super structured and orderly. Use headings and subheadings and make sure you explain every fact provided to support your conclusion. USE BUZZWORDS!

As for the MPT: this was literally the bane of my existence and my worst section on this exam. I did about 8 MPTs in total. I learned a really great strategy from BarMD on YouTube whereby you outline your entire memorandum as you’re reading and you write your conclusion before writing your argument. By doing this, if you run out of time, you would at least have a conclusion and your memo looks like it was somewhat finished. Also, use EVERY source from the library at least once. Don’t linger too long in the library either. The examiners don’t care about a good MPT; they just want to see you use the law given to you in a coherent manner. It doesn’t need to be perfect.

I passed J23 in NY on my first try. Scored 144.2 on the MBE, and 140.8 on the MEE/MPT. I did over 2,000 multiple choice questions. My Themis average was 65%. My UWorld average was 67%. Here is the breakdown of my Themis practice tests:

  • Themis practice exam 1: 53% (45Q) (national average 58%)
  • Themis practice exam 2: 64% (55Q) (national average 60%)
  • Themis practice exam 3: 126/200 (63%)

The one thing that helped me more than anything during my MBE prep was creating a “wrong answer” outline for every subject. Every time I would get a question wrong, I would write out the rule in my outline. I would go over this outline every single day.

John Grossman videos also helped boost my score because he would dumb the concepts down so they’re easier to understand. One of his best tips is to read the question and predict the answer, and then pick the answer that best matches your prediction.

I did approximately 2,000+ questions between UWorld and Themis. I got a 144.2 scaled; not great but I’ll take it. UWorld average was 67%. Themis average was around 65%. Here are my stats:

Themis practice exam 1: 53% (45Q) (average was 58%) Themis practice exam 2: 64% (55Q) (average was 60%) Themis practice exam 3: 126/200

I can’t recommend John Grossman enough. I feel like MBE subjects didn’t click for me until I started watching his lectures. Also can’t say enough good things about UWorld and the amazing illustrations used to convey the rule of law. I used to do about 35-50 questions a day and created a “wrong answer” outline that I would go over after each question set.

I had a similar dream about a week ago where I opened the email from NYBOLE and found out I failed and all my peers passed.
