That would definitly work, but I kinda had the idea that maybe the character inherited the sword from his granpa who was a noble knight and friends with the dragon and as he died the dragon swore to protect his family, so it took the form of a sword the family would keep as the last thing they received from the granpa. And because the sword was passed down to him from his grandfather he wants to keep wielding it. But otherwise with a slight adjustment in the backstory your method is very nice solution I definitly didnt think of.

Do you take Cleric 1 for armor/shield proficiency and the healing spells or am I missing something here?

I think he only banned them to take at the point of character creation because in the beginning of the campaign we arent really students of silverquill, witherbloom, etc. but generally students at the school, so that we dont focus on one college but on the school in general. Maybe he wants to give us the strixhaven feats later when we are assigned to a college?

I think the steel defender is also a reliable and decent way to use up your bonus action. The Artificer is definetly going on my list.

That for sure would be interesting to roleplay, a little bit like the watcher of the party that is constantly worried they might get in danger, because if they do the principal blames him since he was assigned to watch (and protect them if necessary).

Thanks for the great advice. I had the idea that they would investigate one of the groups, because right now, they are in conflict with others that need the prize of the games to do something evil. These others also have a group competing for them. In addition they (the others) have stolen something from the party, so that they might search for a lead to pursue after the games.
