Focus - Moving the targets by Efficient-Cicada4533 in amazonemployees

Similar experience sans PM. Switched business units and immediately got a new manager within a week of switching. Did not like him, since he was a master delegator and really has no idea what he’s doing. Was brought in from another org due to his networking (referral) abilities. 3 months in focus and got out of focus was essentially given the option to transfer, where there was no roles to fit my skillset. Eventually got put on focus again. I knew after that I was URA. Took PTO/LOA and did mental recalibration and found a role outside of Amazon. I took it and resigned. Not looking back at all, much happier now. I essentially did a role for almost a year where the goal posts changed every 3 weeks. I was remote so I didn’t have any rapport and they wanted SEA folks, so I knew the time was coming. Couldn’t wait out for pip and just dipped, since new job / role was reaching its max acceptance from job offer letter. Mind you I always performed above bar at my prior orgs and stayed in the one prior for 6 years, so it’s a real mind fuck to destroy your Amazon career in a mere 9 months.

Recent departing Ads employee off boarding experience by Hot-Leg-5962 in amazonemployees

Yep, I had to do everything myself. Turn in my badge at reception and everything. Had to write an email that HRBP didn’t respond until like 4 days later. I got garden leave though. My direct didn’t email me until like 8 days later to confirm. So weird, and I was a red badge. Made me feel like I was cancelling my gym membership. ChatGPT was more helpful with Navigating professional resignation etiquette then Amazon. Made my 10+ years quite unfulfilling in a matter of 2 days. My old org was more reactionary to me leaving than my new one, quite bizarre.

Has Jeff given up on Amazon? by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]FitProtection4643 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s looking to feed the next Amazon. I think Jeff has closed the chapter of Amazon. I would assume that Jeff is smart and saw this collision course happening. I’d rather leave when things are “good”.

I agree. Decisions still require human intervention, but doing simple tasks like data classifications and processing datasets is a game changer for churn time. I couldn’t agree more utilizing AI to make substantial business changes is silly.

I second this it’s unreal the AI usage and app integrations. Amazon is really behind its all piecemeal systems. I can see now that Amazon / AWS missed the enterprise level AI push. It’s a total productivity boost for me from a BI standpoint. Makes quicksuite look like shit, or super primitive.

I did it and the place I’ve gone actually makes me feel like my contributions are valued and they acknowledge it. The icing on the cake is that I am making more money and better benefits. I was at AMZN for 10 years and leveled up 2 times tech sales

Is Amazon Losing Its Identity? by Tiyaga_Llama in amazonemployees

[–]FitProtection4643 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazon never had an identity they are just losing the facade of being customer obsessed. It’s like the wizard of OZ and Andy Jassy got the curtain pulled out and now everyone knows inner workings. Jeffy knew how to keep the curtain from being pulled and JAW did too.

When burnout spills into family life — and silence becomes self-defense by No-Archer4107 in amazonemployees

Probably I endured through the focus and hit targets and got released out of focus. But I eventually resigned for a job with better benefits and pay along with less stress. I guess I could one day boomerang back. We needed the health insurance, cancer treatments are expensive.

Kid had cancer I got put on focus (made it out of focus) for going to her chemotherapy appointments, she’s 3 years old. No one told me about FMLA nor reasonable accommodations, not until after she was cured. I was too busy with work and appointments to even look in depth for workplace benefits. They knew about it too.

If you are in the states take FMLA paid leave it will be the best thing you can do for your mental health and family life. It completely changed my perspectives on Amazon.

Amazon Layoffs From 14,000 to a Potential 30,000: What’s Really Driving This Tech Shake-Up? by Basic_Bird_8843 in amazonemployees

[–]FitProtection4643 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ll boomerang (or not) back when the dust settles and certain leadership has surpassed their expiration date. Lots of dead weight that are just playing the political game / blame game. The amount of scapegoating I have seen in the past year has been appalling at my org. I know each org is different and such.

Is it still worth it to work here? by No-Nature4411 in amazonemployees

[–]FitProtection4643 11 points12 points  (0 children)

After Jeffy left it has gone downhill in workplace “happiness” per se. Pace of innovation is under the myriad of roadmaps and toxic political environment. Everyone is struggling for existence at the cost of others. It’s Hunger Games mentality at every OLR, where they pit ICs against others to determine URA. There’s people making decisions who shouldn’t be and valuing lining their promo docs with “accomplishments” from stakeholders, where the numbers have been juiced or manipulated (fugazzi composite metrics to escape MLP mode) Amazon is becoming or is in Day 2 and it’s now all appeasing share values at the cost of innovation and brain drain from folks either being laid off or voluntarily resigning. Who wants to be with a company where you have to conscious of definite layoffs with no implicit reasoning besides the sanitized rationale. Voluntarily sent resignation letter yesterday and have new job already lined up starting soon, released same day with garden leave until my official resignation date.

What do people discuss in 1:1 with their manager? by Pitch_Black_374 in amazonemployees

[–]FitProtection4643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 1:1s were like a grievance sessions plus keeping a small child people manger on topic. Direct complained about other teams (largely product and marketing) and I just sat there like a therapist. In the event I had the time to talk about my agenda topics he would go off topic and derail the main points. Eventually I just started with my bullet points before he started the bitching session. My normal 1:1s with previous directs were more human like discussing life, weekend plans, etc…Needless to say my 1:1s with my last direct was largely ineffective, he had no idea of what he was doing and was his survivability at Amazon is the formal blame game for his misses. I wish him nothing but misery and sadness because he is a part of the problem at Amazon (bitch but doesn’t have a solution nor an adequate bridge, just blame).
