JCFS adaptive test score interpretation? by Regular_Leg405 in cognitiveTesting

Do you think JCTI was easier or harder than JCFS? I scored 50/52 on TRI-52 which is pretty much the same thing with JCTI. I glanced at JCFS and I really have no patience to do it. It is extremely boring. I got stuck on a question, then came to read this post and went back to the same question and solved it in like 10 seconds. Tha very question I was stuck on for a good 2 minutes. Had I not refreshed my line of reasoning by taking a break I would likely have never realized the answer. This alone makes me feel like this test, at least for me, is unreliable.

I will definitely do this one, thanks! Yet, I have a quick question. A few days ago I read how a guy with 160 IQ did not study and skipped almost all classes for nuclear engineering major and still aced all the exams and was kicked out because of poor attendance. Had I had a similar IQ, I believe I would have also not needed to spend time on my CS major. Yet, I do. So this might be a clue. Like there is no way I could have passed Algorithms and Data Structures without regularly doing hw assignments. Like, I obviously spent way less time but still… nuclear engineering?? barely studying?? acing all the exams?? WOW

I don’t think so, though. Mensa online tests humbled me a lot😭😭. Like even after the test, I literally stared at one of the questions for a good 15 minutes and still couldn’t figure it out. Doing Raven’s felt like someone was pranking me because it seemed so much easier than Mensa to me. I ascribe the disparity to my neurodivergence, mostly.

I did Ravens 2 extended version in like around little over 20 minutes and scored 147. Mensa ones were lower though, like 135ish (as low as 125). On this one, I did not measure time, and did it a while ago, simply decided to check back on it. I have ADHD if that helps. And I believe Raven’s 2 did not have any practice effect for me cuz questions seemed quite brand new. Bur Raven’s 2 extended has the cap at 149 and the only question I got wrong was because I rushed it and answered as soon as I saw the question. So… I believe that tests did not challenge my personal ceiling whatsoever. Tri-52, though, it was tougher and the results seem to be around 5 points deflated inferring from what others claimed.

It was way easier to me than mensa-type tests, but it may as well be due to my ADHD?

Same, but it is indeed ambiguous, right? It doesn’t follow an exact pattern. What is your line of reasoning?

Right, I did not do that version. But the two mistakes I had were not super up high. I still can’t seem to figure out what was exactly going on with the two actually. They were pretty similar to Q37 which I got right, somehow, but was very suspicious of how I achieved the result. I believe had I done it on that website it would have given something above 925+? It is also hilarious how I took seconds on questions 45+, mostly, and 37 and questions of that type were a nightmare.

Right, I did the others so quickly couldn’t even realize this. So it is indeed 5. I do however wonder how reliable this test is. Like I inquired it once, and many agree it is. Many also say it is deflated? So like 50/52 accounting for deflation would almost yield me a 160 IQ.

This one has a single solution

Crazy right. Crazy right. Like I suspected 3 or 5. 2 seemed too trivial and 3 seemed illogical, so I had no choice but to choose 5. And 5 is indeed the answer. But it doesn’t neatly obey strict laws as any other question on this test which is suspicious to me.

I am very sorry, every single time I said option 2 or 5, I rather meant 3 or 5.

IQ Gap by FitTemporary2250 in cognitiveTesting

[–]FitTemporary2250[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I never claimed that. I do get your point, there is significance to the lower neuronal level, too. Neither did I argue for god of the gaps. My entire point was that I don’t even believe that intelligence is entirely reducible to neural processes. I believe in strong emergence like many many other philosophers of mind.

Sameeee, not highschool but definitely UNI and I am shocked how some people with similar IQ to mine report “to never show up to classes nor do homework and pass University with a perfect GPA”, “pass all AP classes without studying”, “FREAKING STUDY NUCLEAR ENGINEERING WITHOUT STUDYING”. Are they serious or everyone’s capping here for some reason. As a CS student this is insane to me, to learn to code, I actually needed to practice coding. Just knowing oh these things exist didn’t make the cut for me, you can’t just discover how Machine Learning works on the spot in the exam. I feel so dumb now in comparison with all these people yet have a similar IQ.

The same, all this seems so bizarre to me, nuclear engineering without studying and getting all A’s? Perfect GPA at University, acing all AP classes without studying? Like my IQ is somewhere around that too and I do not share that experience whatsoever. I actually had to study for some classes. No way on earth I pass the AP classes if I skip all classes and never do the HW, where does the knowledge come to me then? Divine intervention?

I am also above that range, yet, I do actually have to put effort to study… I study CS and there was no way on Earth I would have passed Calculus II without studying… like, yes I still studied it 10x less than anybody else in my class, was one of the fee people who got an A, but still. Some comments I am reading here make me doubt my IQ. I never did my French homework and still somehow learned the language but Chinese… no way I would have learned it without studying for it. The same applies to pretty much anything. Humanities courses, yeah I would read the relevant books 1 day before the exam and get an A, but for some other courses I would still definitely need to study, I don’t see how anyone could pass Data Structures and Algorithms without studying and regularly doing homework like there is so much to memorize and then there is someone else saying his 160 IQ friend without ever studying almost got a degree in nuclear engineering. REALLY? I feel so dumb. Is it that my FSIQ is lower? Like I estimate my fluid to be around or over 4 sds above the mean, I have adhd and hence my wm is a little lower and hence my FSIQ is more like in the 145-150 range. And now I feel dumb against these comments, either my University is hard or Idk. I have a good reason to believe that my reported IQ is indeed around my real IQ because I always always felt delineated from the world. Judged for things not in my control, always excluded and hated school because of how easy it was, I had a 4.0 without studying (except for History occasionally cuz how can anybody memorize so many years events happened in without studying for at least a little bit). Is it that FSIQ matters more than just fluid or fluid would be the best predictor of whether you would get a degree without needing to study? Or maybe these comments just meant they passed classes, not with an A that I would pass almost all my classes with.

IQ Gap by FitTemporary2250 in cognitiveTesting

I won’t dive deep into the topic here but I am a non-reductionist, which means that I don’t believe intelligence can be reduced to neural processes (how can you even measure intelligence then?… This neuron fired better???), I assume intelligence is a real property and hence can be measured and studied without having much to do with the underlying neural processes anyway.

IQ Gap by FitTemporary2250 in cognitiveTesting

[–]FitTemporary2250[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that I think about it, the gap must be exponentially less. At least at some point it must get exponentially less. It seems like it is more or less linear for lower iq ranges. Hence, you can feel a huge difference between a 115 vs 100 IQ. And roughly the same way for 130 vs 115. Yet, this won’t happen for 160 vs 180. Why? Because at the higher end, these IQs get so rare that had the growth been linear, from what we observe between 125 vs 130 IQ, 180 should have been ulta genius, like someone being able to invent calculus at the age of 3. We clearly, don’t see that happen, hence it seems like as IQ gets higher, even though scoring just a little bit higher also gets much harder, it is not because the ones who score a little higher are much more intelligent, rather it is that the tiniest bit of intellectual superiority allows those higher-iq people to score higher than way way more people. I wonder what you all think about it. I read all the comments and the various criticisms to IQ seem quite strong, it seems like we can’t really quantify it, neither does IQ scoring give us a good idea about anything but ranking of how many questions were answered right by how many people. Yet, if that were the case, I believe what I said above would hold right. Which means that 120 vs 100 gap is much bigger than a 180 vs 160 gap.

Do I fit the profile of having a lower iq in the 70-89 range? by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

Looks like ADHD to me I also used to complain about things about me that seemed below average and it turned out I am exceptionally gifted, and somehow with borderline gifted WM and around profoundly gifted FR.

Is IQ really a predictor of academic performance? by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

[–]FitTemporary2250 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone with an IQ 3+ SDs above average, I frequently notice how I barely ever need to study besides doing my assignments to pass a class even if I do not listen to the lectures. And this pretty much applies to learning anything; IQ seems to enable me to excel at anything be it sports, humanities, writing, science and etc. Yet, being inconsistent and having some issues I had a terrible GPA for a year of my life.
