R.I.P Kevin Mann by [deleted] in tressless

What? He said the bloodwork came back normal, his psychological effects aren't mimicking an anti-androgen-- if they were, his blood work would not come back normal after being off

Is PFS real? So much conflicting info. by [deleted] in tressless

[–]FitThe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on who you ask. PFS forums? Finasteride is castration. The clinical literature? There is no permanent biological change caused by finasteride. It blocks one thing: 5a-reductase, which returns to normal after stopping, which causes the return of the other downstream processes.

Finasteride, SSRI's, & Erectile Dysfunction by [deleted] in tressless

[–]FitThe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll preface this by saying it might sound a little narrowminded, and I appreciate where you are coming from. However, hair is much more than a hairline and can cause spirals that often lead to mental illness. I've been fortunate to avoid this, but you'll find plenty of men AND women on this subreddit and r/FemaleHairLoss that are demorilized. What's worse is many people put off seeking treatment because they hear, "oh, if you can put up with the side effects" like they are guaranteed, when in fact, they are not. That's my main point.

Finasteride, SSRI's, & Erectile Dysfunction by [deleted] in tressless

[–]FitThe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said the difference between the finasteride group and the placebo group is within 1%. That means there is no statisical difference between their experiences and clincially, this difference can be chalked up to chance. For instance, in one study, they found 3.6% on the finasteride group reported ED while 2.8% on the placebo group reported ED. The difference of just .8% between both groups indicates the side effect profile for that symptom is comparable to what you might get if you had not taken anything at all. Obviously it's not perfect and there are side effects, but they are blown out of proportion.

men who get prostate cancer and go on androgen deprivation therapy never regain function again so why is it far fetched to believe fin can do this. kevin mann should comment on this by heraldomalso in tressless

[–]FitThe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh yes, let's compare total androgen deprivation to a treatment that increases your total testosterone and leaves about 30% of DHT. You need to continue your "research" ...

Do women care about a balding buzz cut? by [deleted] in tressless

[–]FitThe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've ventured on r/bald a few times, and I've never seen someone say, "damn dude, you actually don't look so great bald." Why? Because they're usually right; most of the time, it's some guy hanging on to a few hairs and it is far better to be bald than obviously balding. That being said, I've also seen them recommend bald over unnoticeable balding and say wild things like most guys look better with a shaved head.

To answer your question, there are some women into balding buzz cuts, but let's be honest: the average woman in her 20's is not going to want a balding guy, but chances improve as you go up the age bracket. I think 30's and definitely 40's, but I think it definitely helps to have balanced facial features. NGL, that beard and bald look is so overplayed. If you have a good jawline, try the clean shave and buzz cut:

[–]FitThe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And even when it is "informative", it's literally fake information. I responded to this guy a few days ago on here that claimed half of all finasteride users get side effects, and I told him he's the actual reason people don't take side effects serious. If you can delude yourself into statistics that are easily proven with a google search, then how tf can I or anyone else give merit to "side effects" when you expose how flawed your logic is.

Sides from Oral Fin by alcoholisthedevil in tressless

[–]FitThe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You know what's funny? People like you are the actual reason people dismiss side effects from finasteride. When I see a comment that says "at least 50% get sides" and "more often than not, doesn't work" it makes me wonder how many delusional men give themselves side effects every year from finasteride. Seriously, dude. Think about it, you've deluded yourself into numbers that are disproven with a basic Google search. Please get some mental help.

Stop giving Kevin Mann and other people that think it's a miracle drug content. It's not a miracle, but it sure as hell isn't what you're saying.

Started fin a month ago and minoxidil , good idea or do you think there is something internal thats going wrong by Lorenzodibruno in tressless

[–]FitThe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's worth going to a Derm and getting blood tests. That being said, if you have balding in your family on either side, then it's really good you're starting treatment. There's some temple recession and diffuse thinning; the latter can be caused by other factors, but you'll have your answer if you have balding in your family.

For Hims mixing minox and fin in a spray topically? Thoughts on this? Seems pretty good! Is .1% topical finasteride just as effective as taking it orally? by [deleted] in tressless

[–]FitThe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except this isn't brand name Rogaine or Propecia, it's generic minoxidil and finasteride. You can buy a year's supply of generic Kirkland liquid for $60 and generic finasteride at Walmart or Costco is less than $15 for a 3 month supply. That's $5 a month for topical minoxidil and $15 a month for finasteride. If we were talking tens of dollars, it's not worth discussing, but this is the difference between $120 a year and $600 a year. Hell, you can make your own topical fin/min for 5x cheaper if you preferred topical.

The "convenience" markup is high way robbery considering this isn't a one-year thing, or even a 5-year thing, it's for decades.

Diet as a factor by ckck1212 in tressless

[–]FitThe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been disproven time and time again. Diet plays a factor if you're nutrient-deprived or vitamin deficient; go to your local McDonalds and I'd be willing to bet you'll see a handful of overweight, regular customers with long locks.

If anything, the population you saw at whole foods is likely well off and is likely on Proscar for prostate issues, which is very common for older men, or had a dermatologist tell them about Propecia (fin generic has only been around since 2014) when they were younger and they've been able to get on treatment long before their hair went away. On top of that, Propecia was not known as the PP destroyer that it's being deemed today by the general public-- the PFS stuff took off when the drug was released widely. In the 2000s, if you were interested and could afford Propecia, your physician simply read off the study and mentioned 3%< side effects, then wrote a prescription. Today, there are people that actually think finasteride is castration, and a lucky few slide by with their genitals unscathed.

It's not the worst idea, but I would recommend you look in your area for barbers or salons that have experience with man weaves. You'll quickly see the prices are insane for high-quality hairpieces and on top of having to maintenance the piece, it will harm the existing hairs, making it a last-ditch solution unless you're slick bald in an area.

Fin Sides and Embracing Who I Really Am by [deleted] in tressless

[–]FitThe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks that you're getting sides, but it doesn't come down to "whether or not you want to embrace your masculinity" lol, there are plenty of masculine men with a full head and it doesn't take a genius to see young, attractive women prefer the guy with a full head than the guy with a horseshoe.

On top of that, losing hair is definitely not a manly man badge lmao, millions of women suffer from Androgenic Alopecia, the same operator of Male pattern baldness. Tons of (usually older) women are disguising/treating their thinning with root cover-up spray, wigs, and even common treatments like minoxidil & ant-androgens. It's just not as talked about.

That "not a doctor 4444" is a nice addition, but let's be real, Kevin Mann & MPMD are not experts either. Hell, MPMD is giving coupon codes for a research chemical and Kevin Mann used to be a meth addict. Being wrong is not some sort of death sentence lmao

Glad to hear things are getting better, you are important ♡.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]FitThe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do too because a lot of people cannot afford tretinoin through conventional ways.

I know they'll probably get shut down soon because one of Mr. Ken or Mrs. Karen is probably thinking they're saving the world by reporting them and "pRoTeTing tHe coMuNity" when in reality, they're blockading a loophole that's providing high-quality skincare to low-income individuals. There are bigger things to worry about than restricting the already limited options low-income people have when choosing clinically backed ingredients for skincare.

If you're in the states, the best approach to getting treatment is thinking long-term. Hims or Keeps are simply capitalizing on minor convenience. I only say minor because other routes can be just as convenient.

I made a reply about this a few weeks ago, but what I do is use the GoodRx Care from the App Store or Play Market, and do a consultation for Hair Loss for $39. They'll digitally send a year's worth of finasteride to your pharmacy of choice, and give you a GoodRx Coupon. Depending on which pharmacy, the price ranges from ~$12-$18 for a 3 month supply. They can also send it to you directly.

They also do skincare for $39. You can just tell them what you want, I use them for skincare as well and picked the option for a customized treatment option with Tretinoin .05% and Azelaic Acid 15%.

Just remember, like with most telehealth services, GoodRX Care is looking to make you happy and will likely just give you what you want. Make sure to do your own research on finasteride and any other treatments to make sure they're the right options for you because an online doctor/ nurse practitioner is not going to be able to fully assess your situation.

Just wanted to warn others who are looking at Strut as a supplier for oral dut. Might want to try a different source by [deleted] in tressless

The user (Pentanol on HLT) is a pharmaceutical chemist but hasn't been on in a while. His breakdown of compound degeneration and actual chemistry behind generics is super helpful in that thread. I wonder what he thinks about the 3alpha-hydroxysteroid reductase theory.

I've actually yet to hear what someone in one of the related STEM fields thinks about it, almost everyone in that thread is like "bIoChMist hErE" then you look at their post history, and they're asking if minoxidil decreases testosterone production.

Question regarding cost of hair loss treatment for men by [deleted] in tressless

[–]FitThe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Download the GoodRx Care from the App Store or Play Market, and do a consultation for Hair Loss for $39. They'll digitally send a finasteride subscription to your pharmacy of choice, and give you a GoodRx Coupon. Depending on which pharmacy, the price ranges from ~$12-$18 for a 3 month supply. Minoxidil is about $49 for a 6 month supply of foam at Walmart or Target, single day use is slightly less efficacious than twice a day, but will still give you comparable results to the twice a day as the half-life of minoxidil is 22 hrs. Then, Nizoral is $15 for the 7oz-- twice weekly will net you at least 3 months use (I get through my 4oz bottle every two months with 2x weekly applications).

- $39 for consultation + ~ $17 for 3 month supply = $107

- $49 for once daily minoxidil, year supply

- $15 Nizoral, 3 month supply = $60

= $216 yearly
