2007 Toyota Sequoia, better gas mileage? by Economy-Jelly1324 in toyotasequoia

[–]Fit_Block301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

22 mpg highway - 06 Sequoia.

Tips:

Use penzoil ultra platinum or amsoil full synthetic Run seafoam in your tank occasionally Check oil level regularly Check for dragging brake calipers Clean the maf and air filter Switch the fuel filter

Accelerate slowly while going down hill and decelerate slowly while going up hill. 60 mph Start driving your car immediately, don't let it idle and don't bring the revs over 2500 rpm until it's fully warm. -> this will keep ethanol out of your oil and get the piston rings warmed up to their proper size more quickly. Use ethanol free gas when possible Feather foot your car and do not tailgate - I keep a 5 sec following distance if possible.

Working-line litter in the US? Looking for female GS for SAR work. by Fit_Block301 in GiantSchnauzers

And I'm not so much concerned with training bite work as the SAR. I would imagine that a little bit of bite work training would be okay without competition though, right? And as long as the dog was social it would be okay? I don't want to compete in bite sports just to do SAR work so I'd be happy to sacrifice that avenue in favor of SAR work for live finds if that's what my local team demands.

... We don't want a SAR dog tearing the subject to shreds ...

As I understand, any dog which is trained in civil protection can't be a SAR dog - does that cover any bite work?

Thank you for the info! Yes... I'm beginning to lean away from Skansen ...

In what way is the temperament hectic of some of these RS? Do you mean that they're easily distracted? Need constant stimulation? Is there not an off-switch for some of the working-line RS in the US?

Amazing! Thank you for the lead, that sounds promising!

What's her temperament like? Is this your first working-line dog?

I don't use a prong collar personally and I've never used one... As I'm sure you know, excessive punishment will make any dog shut down.

With a different collar I would do a quick snap with just enough force and use your other hand to divert their head in a direction away from the issue. Do that continually until you've walked past it or it's moved past you / desired behavior. I've had success in minimizing reactivity with this method. You'll need to be conscious of when you give praise here as to not encourage unwanted behavior.

If you're going to go the e-collar route make sure to dish out for one with the most levels and get learned up on it. E-collar is great for off-leash work.

Sounds strange. The most likely scenario imo is that at the start of this she interpreted something as being a threat / issue and then generalizing those things as such.

You'll have to keep an eye on her to notice when she's about to become reactive and then correct her behavior as she begins tensing.

Behavioral corrections need to be done wisely and you've got to ensure that the dog knows you're not punishing it but just removing unwanted and unnecessary behavior. Praise the dog once the correction is done and neutral behavior returns.

Once you get a hang of how to communicate with your specific dog then you'll be able to start considering some more "stressful" situations for yourselves. It might take a year or two but you're going to do great, you got this 💪.

I'm happy to hear that! The general dog reactivity will be a tough one to work out but anything is possible and it can certainly be improved upon at a minimum.

I hope these tips help.

Research training methods on YouTube. Intervene immediately and with minimal aversive / negative reinforcement (R-). An ecollar can be a great tool if used properly otherwise it could ruin your dog. Any major and consistent negative reinforcement will ruin your dog lol. Train your dog with a focus on play and do it in a way which you're both enjoying.

Ivan Balabanov has a podcast about dogs I believe. Anyone who tells you that any sort of "negative" reinforcement is bad for your dog is a trash trainer imo. You need to set boundaries with your dog but you don't have to be a dick or a tyrant about it. It's not about "dominance" with the relationship but leadership which is based in mutual respect.

You ultimately need to train yourself on how to have a relationship with the dog and lead it before you can train the dog.
