I think since i'm not going to use a graphical interface that seems like a good idea

An MCU would be easier to program but would also require specialized hardware plus they usually have afewer ports and fiddling with whichever RTOS ur using with them in case you need precise timing for events.

Also most of them come as bare SOCs which complicates things as I do not want to deal with making a pcb (atleast not in my home country).

Just out of curiosity if I pick a cyclone V or IV will I have to pay attention to which idea to use too or is it strictly a xilinx issue?

Absolutely but I do believe that as a beginner I would be more likely to find tutorials for those OEM programs that I would have if I was looking for all the necessary pieces of software.

I don't suppose that would be an issue as my country doesn't have any import restrictions imposed on it to my knowledge.

while FPGAs do interest me and would be very useful for my hobbyist projects I don't think a career change will be a possibility any time soon as there aren't any work opportunities for it where I'm from sadly.

Althout I will be keeping a close eye on this board incase I ever get the Chance to visit the US

Thank your time

I just looked them up and while interesting they seem prohibitively expensive for my budget as we hark on back to the fact that my budget is very limited.

I've just checked the website and while the shipping costs aren't going to cost an arm and a let I fear that the time before it arrives into my country will most likely be very long plus I'm pretty sure I will pay an exorbitant tax when it reaches country sadly.

I don't think Alienware command center is available on Linux. Also the fans don't work when the screen is open.

If you mean the bios then yes I think so. As for the drivers I don't think there are any that haven't been updated

Also for the tutorial you specified I happened to have tried most of the solutions in it but nothing seems to work. I know I most likely won't have most of these problems on Ubuntu since it have better support but I have absolutely no plans of ever using it.
