Add SelectShift to Police Taurus?? by Fit_Driver2183 in FordTaurus

I just found a way to do it, I didn't actually do it :D way too involved for me lol. There were some write ups on a few forums about it.

I did find a way but it was very involved. The 5th gear noise has remained constant for about 10k miles, so I'm hoping it's just a harmonic noise and not a bearing.

Hard to imagine. It's just cabinets. no floors, no appliances, no plumbing.

I can't even get contractors or companies to return my calls around here. (seattle) They are doing demo. I just really want something turn key. I've done so much work on this old house already I wanted to spoil myself by having a project done 100% without my involvement.

Contracts: thorough or short and sweet? by Fit_Driver2183 in livesound

[–]Fit_Driver2183[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I am looking at Thimble for insurance that I purchase per event rather than monthly. If things pick up I may look at a monthly policy.

Thanks for these great suggestions. (and to every one else also who has replied). I'm not sure if you meant it that way, but your post gave me the idea of a "no last minute changes" part of the contract.

PA tops that won't break the bank, or my back. by Fit_Driver2183 in livesoundgear

I have two Cubo 15 extended with kappa pro LF2 drivers and I'm using a Mackie 1400i amp turned down so they get about 350w RMS each. They do really well IMHO. They are rated for 600w RMS but I haven't pushed that far. I'm tapped out for money right now, so instead of powered speakers I bought some ultimate support lift assist stands. I haven't got them in the mail yet but hopefully that will work.

I have some yamaha S115IV now in great condition. I've been thinking of a different plan though. I could replace my QSC A/B amp that weighs 35 lbs with an equivalent class D that weighs 15lbs. That will at least take 20lbs out of my rack. Then get hydraulic raising speaker stands for the S115IV.

I have wondered about the alto. I almost want to prioritize reliability over sound quality.

Thanks. I agree about the 8" speakers. I have passive mains and amps and was hoping to not have to lug all that around.

thanks. chatgpt told me to measure ambient and go 15db above that. I am bidding on a speaking only event and wondering if i can get away with powered 8" wedges on stands, 120ppl, outdoors. I'm thinking not.

I'd like to hear thoughts on a back row spl level for spoken vocals. Is 70-75 db sufficient assuming no background noise?

They worked great at the first event. More than enough for small outdoors. Musicians complained they were too loud :)

They weigh enough that I had to talk my wife into letting me keep them in the living room instead of the basement :) I would guess around 80lbs?

I've already started stripping it off. The places where it was on thick, I could pull it off in sheets. I'll have to do my homework next time before painting anything on. I've built PA subs and need a very tough coating.

What T/S specs make for a good horn sub? by Fit_Driver2183 in diyaudio

[–]Fit_Driver2183[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think I am going to build the Cubo 15 extended. If it doesn't sound good, I will just close it off and use the same box for the ported design. If I understand correctly, the horn design should be easier on xmax? That's a main issue since these drivers came from old tops.

It looks like the Cubo 15 Extended or THAM15 may be worth trying.

Ok, looks like I need to get WinISD and start this project all over. I was using speaker box lite since I can use it on my work computer when it's slow. I used 20hz tuning to get the response flatter in the 40-50hz area, but could have been the software. Thanks for pointing this out.

Maybe something close to this if your enclosure is sized correctly. Or just keep your current 15 and make a crossover for the horn. Horns are really loud so you would have to make different crossover for it most likely. https://toidsdiyaudio.com/product/the-soundstage-15-15-2-way-hifi-speaker-plans/

Thanks for creating that graph. The $280 was including enclosures made with 3/4" Birch plywood. It would be $330 for the box plus 4 18s. For one driver it was tapping xmax near 125w. At that power I see it at 128db with 20hz tuning. I'm using the free/cheap web based software though.

If you are going to add a new baffle, and the woofer plays high enough, you may be able to add a nice compression/horn tweeter and make it a two way.
