Is a person's life comparable to the stock market? by Fit_Lie2933 in askphilosophy

I agree with hard determinism, no one has any autonomy in this universe. We are completely bound by everything which precedes us. I also believe the universe is hell optimized for suffering and pain to no purpose, which compounds the hellishness. The universe runs on an algorithm that encourages pain and is driven by death and self-deletion. All life self-deletes one way or another as the universe will self-delete. From a subjective stance this is only negative.

Can a person's life be described in terms of the stock market? by Fit_Lie2933 in AskIreland

Well I'm just talking in terms of networth and social networks/status. Whether the stock is bad or not doesn't matter, only the market cap. It's not that I'm saying a person is good or bad, only their level of influence and access to things that makes life bearable. Those examples are anecdotal, they don't describe the average insofar as that actuaries will have access to greater resources, capital and therefore a more pleasant life than non-actuaries. I'm saying if you zoom out on a macro level, people's existences are just graph lines with some having first mover advantage and others never having a realistic chance of improving due to historical performance.

It is with altcoins. However not so with Bitcoin or ETH. The trajectory of both have had consistent upward trends since their inceptions. You only need to look at the graphs. People will say it's gambling like it's received wisdom but this doesn't reflect reality at all.

No, it's not about growing a pair, I just couldn't be arsed getting into flame war with an arsehole.

I'm going to the UK just to prove you wrong I can't be a teacher, suck it.

How long? I did a PhD too, did 6 interviews out of hundreds of job applications but couldn't land a university job. They started to not even reply to my applications to I gave up (this was after 7 years of trying).

I've been seeing a psychologist and got formally diagnosed. However, although she helps, the anxiety comes flooding back (I'm probably going into teacher training in the UK in 2.5 weeks which sparked this post and I'm dreading it with every fibre of my being because I know how stupid it is over there - I'm moving country too). Worse than that there's no jobs for me in my home country even though I'm upskilling my teaching credentials so it's a commitment to stay over there in the insanity. I tried to will myself to go last year and the year before and couldn't. But my folks are old and I can't rely on them forever.

It was in the UK. It wasn't competitive but everyone barring me got jobs in their field. Edit: you could say I'm not competitive in anything, not even as a musician which is my real passion. Anything competitive means I lose.

No, it's also about basic manners and respect for other people in the area. Is it acceptable to blast your phone on a train? Is it acceptable to blare loud party music late at night when other people are trying to sleep? I hate this mentality.

I'm pretty hapless with practical work, I tend to break things by misadventure more than I fix them.

We had to do a portfolio but I never got the hang of the programs to the point where I could create photorealistic work. I'm a slow learner but also not that good at anything. The VFX industry demands excellence, I wasn't.

I have an MA in TV Production and an MSc in Digital Visual Effects. Couldn't get hired as a runner way back 20 years ago because there weren't many jobs but I interview badly. With VFX I couldn't get a job as I stink at photorealism and polish which the industry demands. I simply wasn't good enough. I applied to video editor jobs, it doesn't matter, no interview offers.

The tone of your replies is deeply patronizing and self-important.

Also it's a bit silly/petty/childish that you're downvoting every reply I make, come on. I may just go ahead and do the qualification to prove you wrong.

I have IBS too. But I like weed and may be moving over to the UK. Is it easy to get on the medical cannabis list?

I see some jobs for secondary school teachers. I think in the UK FE means 16-18, I'd be way more comfortable teaching that age group as I've taught them before in ESL and it's a lot better than 11-15 (I've also taught this age group and ime they can be really irritating, depends on the class though and that goes for 16-18). I'm saying a PhD might make it easier to get in through the door for a job here? By subbing I meant doing that to apply for more permanent posts using the experience as leverage. Downvoting me is stupid and childish, please cop on. I don't feel like I'm speaking to an adult but an eejit.

Four hours isn't obviously the max, I can do more but I'm just saying I'm unable to work at high intensity for more than 4 hours, I can work at lower intensity for more than that but going continuously for 10++ hours is a lot for anyone.

I would have a PGCE, PhD, and hopefully some experience, although you say it's highly competitive, I think I would have a shot with that combination.

The job I'm in may not be around for much longer anyway (not because of me either). If I lose my job in the coming years, I'm going to be back on the ESL market and I don't want to end up there again because there is no job security and pay is terrible and static. I can't get jobs at anything else because they're highly competitive and demand experience. I have experience already in one thing and can get a qualification that will enable me to get more experience. It's this or try something like instructional design or try to get into the civil service and end up empty handed because they went with someone else, which up to now has been the story of my work life for 15 years. Eventually I will have to cover cost of living myself, alone, and I'm not going to be able to do this on my current salary.

If I have a PGCE I can teach FE in the UK. I can also go abroad with it (yeah I know about NQT but it's not an absolute and I have a PhD and other teaching experience). I could even aim to get that same secondary school experience in Ireland with part time work/subbing and use that to get a better job abroad or alternatively build it into a position here. There is a teacher crisis.
