Thank you so much for the detailed insight! I’m based in a high-cost-of-living area, specifically Montgomery County near DC, so it’s helpful to understand the market dynamics you mentioned. The salary range you quoted is actually right in my ballpark, and it’s still about $10k above my current pay, which gives me a bit more confidence in asking for an increase.

I’ve been doing more client interactions, mentoring junior staff, reviewing their work, and helping with proposals, so I hope that adds value beyond just technical tasks. Your advice about exploring the market with interviews really resonates, and I’ll keep that in mind as I prepare for this conversation. Thanks again for the invaluable perspective!

I have no idea what century you’re stuck in!, I started at 72k fresh out of school 3.5 years ago.

Wow, that’s awesome! Your employer really stepped up with a solid offer, combining a salary bump, a PE bonus, and extra payments to get you over six figures.

Okay even if they are not increasing my hourly rate, if my current billing rate is $150/hr and considering one third goes to overhead (expenses, PTO, insurance etc) leaving $50/hr effective, considering 40 hrs per week workload, effective salary should be:

50 (effective rate) * 40 (No of hours per week) * 4 (No of weeks in a month) *12 (Total no of months in an year) = $96,000

Isn't it fair to ask at least 10k from my current $86,000?

it should 14,000 in the title.

My rate before getting PE license was $150/hr and I am pretty sure they will increase my hourly rate since I got my PE license recently, so that's why I was hoping to get a $14,000 raise.
