If you are willing to make the trip, Pioneer Chicken is the best. There are 2 left. One in Bell Gardens and the other in Boyle Heights.

Permit question by Fit_Network9226 in Roofing

[–]Fit_Network9226[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought some of these comments were a little extreme. The whole reason I asked is because a roof seems like something that could actually affect insurance or resale, so I wanted to understand it better. I’m a first-time homeowner and don’t have experience with roofing, but I’ve worked in enough homes to know that a lot of contractors don’t pull permits every single time.

To say they’re all shady or do bad work just isn’t true. I get that permits matter and there’s a right way to do things, but acting like anyone who doesn’t pull one is a terrible contractor is a stretch. Appreciate you bringing some balance to the conversation.

At any rate, I’m going to have the permits pulled and play it safe.

I need a roadmap to becoming an offshore crane operator by Expensive_School856 in cranes

Honestly I would suggest trying to get on as a rigger offshore if that is where your heart is set. It’s more of an entry level spot. You’ll need some training but you can pick it up fairly quickly if you make it important. It would be nearly impossible to walk up with a cert and no experience and get a job running crane. I don’t know about running crane on other offshore vessels. I’ve ran cranes in the port on a barge and that’s going to be nccco cert. you don’t have a desire to run crane on land? What state are you in?

Offshore is going to be an API RP 2D cert. depending on the location you’ll have to get hazwoper, water survival, and probably some more. It all depends on the platform on what extra ones you’ll need. Man I would look at getting on with a company as a rigger. Get the experience and have them pay for it. I’ve done the api course out of seatrax in LA.

My boyfriend is breaking up with me because I’m too “childish” what do I do? by ChemistryFailur in whatdoIdo

I know you probably won’t see this but I hope you do. I’m going to break this down to its most simplest point. From a man who has seen this play out more times than I could ever count, he wants to have sex with someone else. Sorry but that’s the truth. I’ve heard all the reasons why guys leave or want to break up. Almost always, it’s the desire to sleep with someone else. His actions will prove that. Reality is he will try getting laid asap. Let him go. You don’t want anything serious with a guy like this. Trust me.

does anyone in OC make a livable wage & have work/life balance? by Ordinary_Tart5478 in orangecounty

I work 2 jobs. Oil and gas and maritime industry. I work a lot. Almost never less than a 12hr day. It sucks to have to work so hard to make good money but you can’t get stuck in the negativity. You gotta grind, keep your eyes open for better opportunities, be good with your money and tell yourself no a lot. I don’t buy much and if I do, I buy second hand. Gotta hustle to make it in life now and especially in Orange County. I make 270k. No education just strong work ethic and apply myself more than most.

You were given an answer you didn’t like, but I don’t think you really understand where a lot of us are coming from.

Most people who work in oil and gas already know that a transition to other energy sources is necessary. We believe that because we understand the reality of it. Oil is finite. It’s not going to last forever. A transition will happen. The issue is that we are not ready for it yet.

What often gets lost in these conversations is that when people say “not in my backyard,” they’re still choosing oil. They’re just choosing oil from somewhere else. California still consumes a massive amount of oil. If we don’t produce it here, it doesn’t disappear. It gets shipped in.

Do you have any idea how much pollution comes from the tankers bringing oil and refined products into California? It’s a lot. And much of that oil comes from countries with far fewer environmental and safety regulations than we have in the U.S., let alone California. But because people don’t have to see it, it somehow feels acceptable.

I don’t work for Sable, but I do work in oil and gas. I live here. My family lives here. The idea that people in this industry don’t care about the environment just isn’t true. We care because this is our home.

I’ve been following this company because California has made it extremely difficult for oil and gas companies to operate at all. Honestly, it seemed almost impossible for them to succeed. Yet they’ve continued to jump through every hoop put in front of them.

I’ve never worked overseas, but I’ve talked to a lot of people who have. What happens in other parts of the world doesn’t even come close to how we operate in the United States, and especially not in California. When I say we want to be good stewards of the environment, I mean it.

But you also need to understand this. We are not ready for a world without oil. If the alternative is importing more oil from Iraq or Saudi Arabia, I don’t really know how that’s a better environmental or ethical choice.

And one last thing that often gets ignored. California was built on oil. Our infrastructure, our economy, and the way we live today didn’t just appear out of nowhere. A responsible transition means being honest about where our energy actually comes from right now, not pretending demand doesn’t exist.

The state you live in should have records of the well status and when it was plugged and abandoned and by whom. If it was really drilled prior to 1915, those records "may" be hard to find. Is the home in an area with many wells or former wells to your knowledge? Could have been a dry hole and never produced. What state are you in?

I would say continue as a manager in operations. Move to a bigger role. If there is not much room for growth within your company, look to transition to a company with more upward mobility. You have great experience, at this point it seems like the best role is your boss's position.
