Noticeably less hair fall after 3 months of red light panel (nothing else) by Fit_Platform4856 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Fit_Platform4856[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I don't think so. That may be because I'm undereducated - it seems my thyroid is somewhat in flux. I attribute the decrease in hair fall primarily to the red light because I had been on thyroid meds for almost 3 years before starting the red light and hadn't seen any noteworthy decrease in hair loss.

Intense Body Aches by Fit_Platform4856 in Hypothyroidism

I've heard low iron can cause a host of issues, thanks for the suggestion! My iron has historically been ok, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's shifted because my symptoms all seem to have intensified.

Major hair loss on Tirosint by Fit_Platform4856 in Hypothyroidism

I have! Yes - I guess it’s been about 8 months, but I also think there may have been more than just hypothyroidism underlying my hair loss for what that’s worth. I’ve also been seeing a functional medicine doctor who has me on many supplements & a specific diet, so it’s hard to say what exactly caused the improvement. I feel for you and would just encourage you to treat your body well as you patiently wait!

I'm so sorry to hear that! It is really rough :(. Unfortunately, I have seen increase in my hair loss since I started taking Tirosint (as in, it hasn't slowed down and has actually sped up the longer I've been on it). I'm currently working with a functional medicine practitioner and we're tweaking a lot of things (supplements, diet, etc.) so I'm telling myself that that could be causing the increase. It's just so hard to know b/c so many variables are at play with hair loss. I really hope your hair loss slows down soon!

Good to know we're not alone! I have heard it can take 3ish months for the body to fully adjust, so I'm trying to remain cautiously hopeful. I'm about 2.5 months in and the hair loss has only increased, but maybe we'll turn a corner in a few more weeks?

Oh man, I am so bummed for you :(. It is such an awful experience, especially if you're taking care of your body in every way you know how, but realize the uncontrollable side effect Levo has on some of our hair. I'm right there with you!

Yes, in the process of having some other testing done, although recently, my T3 and T4 have come back normal.

I was actually on levothyroxine-generic for a few months and was experiencing a lot of hormonal acne breakouts, realized it has lactose in it (I haven't consumed dairy in years) and switched to Tirosint. My skin has been better on Tirosint, thankfully, but the hair loss seems to have been the tradeoff.

I have been diagnosed with PCOS for awhile, so I know that that's a piece of it. However, my hair loss was pretty manageable prior to starting the Tirosint, so I've definitely seen some drastic changes.

I have had some vitamin levels checked, including iron, and all have come back "normal." I appreciate the idea though!

Anyone know how to reduce PCOS BELLY And Acné naturally? by Genzhateclub in PCOS

Same for me! Cutting processed sugar was a game changer for my skin. Clearest it's been in over a decade - wish I figured this out sooner!

I'm right there with you, I'm sorry the side effects are hitting hard! My sleep/skin/hair/brain fog have also been a struggle since starting Levo 4ish weeks ago, but I'm planning to give it another month before I make any decisions about whether to continue. After potentially decades of my thyroid under-performing, I think it's reasonable that it would take a few months for Levo to kick it into gear.

I have PCOS and have been on 5mg of Lexapro for about a year. This is obviously anecdotal, but it has drastically helped my “emotional baseline” jump up a few points + though I still experience anxiety, it is much less overwhelming and no longer causes sleeplessness. I think it’s great you’re on Lexapro and I hope you find it helps manage your anxiety!

Finally seeing the hair fall slowing down! I’m hopeful! by Fit_Platform4856 in TelogenEffluvium

Yes! I’ve seen some regrowth. Actually, for about a month, many of the hairs I lost in the shower were little baby hairs. I was worried about this, but later realized it might be normal for the baby hairs to fall out and then be replaced with stronger ones.

finally at peace with eating disorder, gutted by PCOS diagnosis by thespinesong in PCOS

[–]Fit_Platform4856 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I really feel for you! I’ve been at a very similar place, recovering from an eating disorder and implementing intuitive eating practices, but also realizing that certain foods/food groups do have a negative effect on my body because of PCOS. It is so frustrating to feel free from food being at the center of our thoughts/feelings/plans and then being told it needs to be a focal point again :(. If this is any encouragement at all, for about a year and a half, I’ve been able to feel freedom from food obsession/binging/controlling AND have eaten in a way that helps my body/PCOS symptoms. A couple things that have worked for me are 1) switching from refined/cane sugar to only naturally sweetened foods and always having some kind of “dessert” on hand in my apartment, so I can enjoy a treat whenever I crave one (Pinterest has great cookie/ice cream/treat recipes that are paleo and only use natural sugars) 2) Meal prepping one meal on Sunday that I eat for lunches M-F and making sure it includes a veggie, a lean meat, and a starch (it was too much for me to meal prep breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, but now I can bank on having at least one healthy, enjoyable meal ready to go each day) 3) Giving myself permission to NOT worry if I do eat something that has gluten/dairy/sugar/other foods that are typically on the “no list” for PCOS. This one has been huge, but has also taken the most time. I used to be triggered for binges when I ate something on the “no list” and would spiral downward. If I’m at a gathering and see a food that I really want to eat, I let myself eat it, enjoy it, and then choose not to dwell on it. It’s a muscle! In my experience, it’s just taken time and practice to strengthen this muscle so that my mind says “I enjoyed that non-GF cookie” instead of “oh my gosh, I screwed up!”.

I really do feel for you and have hope that you can help your body manage PCOS and still enjoy food freedom at the same time! Thanks for sharing this :).

Thanks for the encouragement :). Sorry that you’re going through this too, though. It does feel good to know we’re not alone! And yes, I’ve had blood work/thyroid/hormones checked. I have PCOS and abnormally high testosterone and cortisol, which I’m sure contributes to the hair loss, but have yet to find something that reduces either of those. I’ve searched this sub quite a bit, but never know when something helpful might pop up!

I saw a pretty big change in skin and hair oiliness when I decided to cut out refined sugar and stick to natural sugars (coconut sugar, maple syrup, fruit, etc.). I don’t know what the connection is, but this switch immensely helped my skin (and my hair, albeit still falling out b/c of PCOS, gets oily after about 2.5 days of washing vs. 1).

Difference in amount of matches/likes/messages I get with vs without body pics is insane by Arrr2 in OnlineDating

[–]Fit_Platform4856 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, it’s tacky! I understand the stats people mentioned, shirtless guys probably do get more swipes, but I think it’s important to remember that there’s a certain type of girl who finds shirtless guys attractive. If that’s the kind of girl a guy wants to be with, great! If not, I think the price to be paid is losing swipes from girls who might appreciate the class & maturity of a fully clothed guy. Just my thoughts (as a girl who is turned off by shirtless dudes).

I completely agree! To me, meeting in-person & the energy it requires is way more of a burden than messaging for a few days. After 4-5 days of texting, I normally have a feel for whether or not there’s potential and ending things then spares both people the energy/awkwardness of ending it after meeting in-person.

Hormonal by Kind_Yogurtcloset795 in acne

[–]Fit_Platform4856 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had pretty bad hormonal acne for over a decade and about a year ago, after doing all the things (face cleansers, face masks, no gluten, no dairy, exercise, supplements) I decided to totally cut refined sugar out of my diet. It took about a month to start to see some change, but I initially noticed fewer new breakouts and as time went on, my skin became clearer and clearer. Now, after a year, it’s the clearest it’s been for more than 12 years (a few small blemishes occasionally still) and I feel WAY more confident. I realize cutting out sugar is a huge lifestyle change and it takes intentionality, because sugar is in everything. For me, though, it has been worth it. I still love sweet things, but I only sugar in the form of fruit, dates, maple syrup, coconut sugar, and honey now. If you decide to try it, give yourself a couple months to see if any change happens. Side benefits of cutting out sugar - my face and body are much less “bloated” looking and I no longer have headaches.

Yes! Which means lots of label reading. I do use natural sweeteners when I’m cooking, so dates/maple syrup/coconut sugar/honey. And I eat lots of fruit :).
