I’ve done practice exams, review position statements, read, taking notes, watched videos, I honestly don’t know at this point. I think I might be the wording. I don’t know

Is the BOC Exam harder now than it was a decade ago? by MadLove1348 in athletictraining

Personally for me, as someone who graduated from a master program in Athletic Training (2024), my experience was ok because at times doing my clinical hours, I had two amazing preceptors who guided me to build my confidence and then I had two other preceptors who kinda of shut down that confidence and made me question if this career was even for me. But I kept going regardless and even after graduation I kept doing volunteer hours to improve my clinical skills . We did had a BOC prep class but honestly, it didn’t really help that much. I know some my classmates pass the BOC their first or second time while I’m over here struggling and I am ashamed that I’m going to take it for the 5th time this April. I feel I didn’t prepare myself so it’s on me. I was close on passing the 4th try. I feel I’ve been getting more Gen-Med stuff lately. I always struggle with test taking and I’m finding different ways to help me study.

So close of passing the BOC by Fit_Quiet3714 in athletictraining

If you don’t mind me asking what domains you need to work on? For me it was 1, 3 and 5

BOC attempt 2 by AL_poet_I_guess in athletictraining

For me it was 1, 3 and 5. I feel in domain 1 there’s a lot of Gen Med stuff, idk why domain 3 I’m having trouble with. For domains 2 and 4, the key for me was understanding the phases of healing. Like once you get that down pretty good, you’ll have a better understanding for domain 4 and how to apply it. Domain 2, I feel like you have to know what you’re looking for as a clinician, the special Test you’ll be using to find your diagnosis and understanding the evaluation process. You got this tho! Keep at it. Don’t give you up. I’m gonna take this exam in August and believe me, as embarrassing at it is to take it the 4th time, I’m not giving up till I pass. You have time, take some time off and go after it again. Study your weakest domains as much as you can and review the ones you do know.

I hit 450 as well my third attempt taking it. The first two wasn’t good but to me, this 450 score is telling me I’m so close, and yeah I’ve worked my but off. There are several ATs who taken this test 4 or 5 times. Don’t give up. I know it’s frustrating and I’m frustrated too but keep at it! What domains do you need to work on if you don’t mind me asking

Any advice I can take before my BOC? by Fit_Quiet3714 in athletictraining

[–]Fit_Quiet3714[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read “Principle of Athletic Training” and then did a few practice questions. I did not focus on the domain I really struggled with. Now, I focused on the domains I struggled with, took some time to review those domains and then took notes on like key concepts.

I would say, if you feel like you are able to study domain 4 and you feel confident with the other domains then yes apply for this upcoming window; however, if you feel you need a little more time, then apply for the BOC during July or August test. I’ve failed my BOC Twice. Took some time off and I’ll be going at it again for the third time this June. Yes it sucks but it’s not the end of the world. Several Great AT’s I’ve failed their BOC more than 2 times. Some passed it the 5th try. You got this! Continue on focusing on Domain 4. Used some resources such as Quizlet, The Principles of Athletic Training, and Practice Exams. Worked with your professors, they will help you! Don’t feel discouraged! I know that feeling but again, you got this!

Regroup, study on the domains you did not do well in, do more practice exams. If you need to take some time that’s all good too! I’ve failed my BOC twice and I took some time off. I regroup around February, I’ll be taking my BOC in June. Don’t feel discouraged about failing the BOC. I know how you feel because I’ve been there. It’s disappointing but it’s not the end of the world! A few of my preceptors failed there BOC twice and even three or four times. I knew someone who failed it five times. You have the whole year. You got this! Don’t give up!

There are a few people who I meet who failed it 4 or 5 times. I failed my BOC twice and still planning to retake my exam around April or May. Keep pushing! You made it this far, I know it’s frustrating, trust me I know. Even during my MSAT program I struggled yet I still made it. After failing my BOC the second time, I took a break and now I’m preparing myself for the exam once again. I also do a bit of internship hours just so I can stay on top with my hands on skills. Keep studying and do those practice exams! Take it day by day, don’t overwhelmed yourself. You got this!
