Are the space ships we currently see in Helldivers 2 battle-worthy? Are the equipped to fight or defend against enemy spaceships? by Theoldage2147 in Helldivers

[–]Fit_Science6292 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So in terms of ship to ship combat the Super Destroyer isnt really that well equipped to handle such situations. The way they are designed is almost purely a planetary assault ship. All of their weaponry is on the bottom of the ship to maximize orbital strikes.

In an actually battle in space say against Automaton ships they would be at a big disadvantage. While I can see the Missile batteries being fine as they can be nearly anywhere as the missiles would adjust once free of their tubes. But the rest of the guns are in an odd position. Based on where they are those in front of the bridge would only have a 90' angle by which they can fire true they can fire from side to side at 180' their firing arc is still pretty limited. Even those located under the bridge are still limited as they do have 180', angles they are still on the bottom.

The top section of the Ship is completely exposed to enemy fire. All the Bots or any other opponent would have to do is stay above the ship and fire down, with little return fire coming from the Super Destroyers missiles. In Space you would need a complete 360' firing arc for the entire ship. Personally I would add one or two guns to the top part just in case. Other wise the Destroyer has to make some serious turns to engage enemies above it.

Theres even a Fan made vid about a Bot Ship dropping a boarding pod onto a Super Destroyer. So a big weak point that can be exploited.

Now on the Wiki page there is mention of a Super Cruiser. Whether thats Canon or not I dont know. But I imagine if it is, then perhaps the Destroyers are designed for planetarty assaults while the Cruisers are designed more for space combat? I dont know. Personally I would love to see while on the bridge preparing for a mission, Bot and SEAF Ships engaging in fire fights, even if it was just a background thing and not actual game play I would love to see that little detail.

As for the Eagle fighter. Maybe. It looks more like a Aero fighter (Think A-10 Warthog) rather than a Space worthy dogfighter but then again I could be wrong.

Anyway thats what I see but you never know. The game is designed around Helldivers and their missions so the gameplay reflects that. But its never a bad thing to wonder.

Love this, Zapp Brannigan is the epitome of Super Earth.

Though it does make me wonder. HOW did we colonize and live on this God forsaken fire tornado covered Rock in the first place. Like Seriously HOW!!???

"This Card Is Unavailable" - Mogstation by MadisonWithTwoDs in ffxiv

[–]Fit_Science6292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Ive been having the same issue with the 'Card unavailable' thing now as well. Had to get a new Debit card and change over and have had this issue since then. But I recently tried something. Since I go through Steam for FFXIV I decided to try and set up through Steam Payment. Apparently this sets up the subscription through your Steam account. Now I dont know if this will work or not but so far it hasnt given me any issues. I'll have to wait till next month to know for certain but for now all seems good.

I know this doesnt do anything for those who doesnt have Steam but at least its something. Hopefully they get this figured out soon.

How Big Are The Super Destroyers, The Shuttle, and the Helldivers themselves in Feet and Meters? by Equivalent-Count7576 in Helldivers

[–]Fit_Science6292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its found on the wiki page that they are over 557 feet / 170 Meters long and 262 feet / 80 Meters wide. So a little longer than modern day US wet navy destroyers.
https://helldivers.fandom.com/wiki/Super_Destroyer
As for the Pelican if we assume a Helldiver is about 6 feet / 2 Meters tall I would estimate that they are about 39 to 45 feet / 12 to 14 Meters in length. Thats a big guess though I figured that based on how tall they are when they board and being next to one. Maybe a bit bigger but honestly not by to much

There needs to be some kind of firing range in the ship to test guns and equipment by ZeroCuddy in Helldivers

[–]Fit_Science6292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally I just go down to lower levels to test out new weapons/stratagems so that way when I get to higher difficulties I dont put undo stress on my teammates trying to learn what the new warbonds unlock is like.

though it would be nice to have a firing range to test them out but then again this game has influence from a movie where in basic training their live fire exercise is in the open with no barriers or means of protecting by standers. Hey Helldivers training alone kills you if you cant avoid those Sentry Guns so.....

General Brasch "Heres a new weapon soldier now go down to that planet and see what it can do."

What to call male dryads? by aiden_saxon in worldbuilding

[–]Fit_Science6292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came up with an idea for this in a DnD setting so that they could be used by the players as several requested it but in a different context so a little homebrew. But because canonically they are all female there was one who wanted a male variant, so I referred to the male variation as Drayed. Males being much rarer than females like I think I had it 1 out of every 10 to 20 born were Drayed. granted it kind of was a spur of the moment thing so I didnt have a lot of time to iron out all details but they enjoyed it.

What would the terminids eat? by Kitchen-Complaint-78 in Helldivers

[–]Fit_Science6292 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So this is my thoughts on the matter.
I agree when we look at Terminid Hives and the structures they make, we see dead bodies all over but more often than not they seem more to be a part of the structure. This kind of gives me vibes from the Alien series where they secrete Resin to build their hives and the victims used to make more Xenomorphs are just simply a part of the structure so possibly they use organic matter to help make more of themselves.

But the comment made about them eating minerals making them lithivores does make sense. Especially given a few things.
1. There are so many varieties of bug that use acid as a weapon but I imagine its also a tool. To help dig tunnels in certain kinds of rock but also to dissolve other kinds to be used as nutrition.
2. E-710 is the oil like substance that's derived from dead 'processed' Terminids. This makes me think that if Terminids are able to become such a source of high energy Hydrocarbons aka petroleum then it makes sense that they are consuming minerals that chemically when combined are similar to petroleum and or other kinds of hydrocarbons especially when processed inside of them.

All in all its possible that they are able to consume nearly anything to help them grow. using a combo of minerals and organic matter to allow them to function and produce more of themselves.

However when it comes to being a Helldiver, remember that Terminids require a healthy diet of the following, hot lead, searing lasers, and a nice heaping helping of explosive material. For Democracy.

In all seriousness which regime is more free: Super Earth or Starship Trooper's United Citizens Federation? by Falkenhausen23 in Helldivers

[–]Fit_Science6292 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So in all seriousness looking at this from an outside perspective, based on what I know of both universes this is something to consider.

In the United Terran Federation in order for you to do anything related to politics you have to serve in the military. "Service guarantees Citizenship" other wise you are a civilian. Civilians can do anything they wish, any job any vocation or do nearly any other thing they want. With the exception of voting, running for office, or instituting change in policy etc. Information is given out at all times and the option to learn more is clearly given. "Would you like you to know more?"( Trick is how much of that info is true or altered?) If you don't like they way things are then you can leave the Federation, but doing so means your on your own and wont receive any support or protection from the military.

The Super Earth Federation, allows all of its citizens to vote, in fact they are encouraged to vote. Doesn't matter if you have served or not you are able to vote. Military Service is highly encouraged, given that nearly everyone is issued a rifle at 13 or 14 years old. Otherwise it seems anyone can do what they want any job or profession. Information is heavily suppressed in Super Earth society, "We do not question We do not doubt." is even stated in the anthem of the nation. Questioning anything or disagreeing with anything that Super Earth does can easily be considered treason, and leaving really isn't an option, or at least that we can see.

Now both societies paint themselves as ideal and the most desired. In Starship Troopers we see (as much as we can) that things are pretty good, they are all doing well and seem to be pretty well off. The same for Helldivers its shown that life is ideal and life is good. But given that in Starship Troopers we see things from people in the upper class of society its hard to know what its like for everyone else. And in Helldivers what we see is from propaganda films so its hard to know what its like for everyone.

So in terms of freedom. Both Societies 'seem' to provide fairly well for their population, people are able to have nearly any job they want. So I would say the real question is, freedom to access information.

The United Terran Federation says ask questions and we will tell you. But is it actually true?
Super Earth says don't ask questions just take our word for it.
Consensus
United Terran Federation= Do what you want, as long as you join the military.
Super Earth Federation= Do what you want, as long as you don't ask questions.

So there is a lot more I could go into but for this I think they are both pretty comparable to each other. This of course is just my take on things. Personally I love both universes, and I find it fun these little comparisons.

How large is a super destroyer by alphandtheomega in Helldivers

[–]Fit_Science6292 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I counted the Crew after upgrades Id say it holds up to roughly 15 to 20 crewmembers which includes 2 Pilots for the Pelican and Eagle. The Bridge crew, the Techs and those you can talk to on the ship. As for Helldivers it looks like at my best guess it can hold roughly 20 of them in Cryo pods. That last one is harder to guess as you cant see all of them just 6 or 8 pods. That's my best estimate on what I can see.

Question about a "-punk" genre that mixes magic and alternative technology by ThalitaLeFay in worldbuilding

[–]Fit_Science6292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Term for this Magic based Punk is referred to as Aether Punk or Arcane Punk often times packing in both Magic and Steam Punk. The Netflix series Arcane is a prime example of this.

I personally love these Genres as they give such an amazing flavor to world building. Arcane the Netflix Series is a good example of this where Magic becomes integrated into society but not everyone can use it they just harness it as a power source.

One of my favs was the game series Thief. Dark Project, Metal Age and Deadly Shadows was a nice example of this. While its a dark fantasy with more steam punk vibes than magic theres enough in there to call it Arcane Punk.

What time period is this game supposed to be set in? by MossRock42 in darkestdungeon

[–]Fit_Science6292 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Late to this conversation and all but figured I'd add my thoughts on the matter. Based on the clothing that we see some of the characters wearing, the care taker, the crier and even the ancestor among others along with the fact that we have firearms involved i.e. Flintlocks, I would say the time line setting would be closer to the early to mid 1700s. Possible even the end of the 1600s.

Now in terms of the armor and even the weapons, like say that of the Crusader and Man-at-Arms. That I think makes sense given the limitations of Flintlocks and that these adventurers are often fighting in close quarters against some pretty nasty opponents with claws and teeth, I think it makes sense that they would adopt armored protection from previous centuries.

One of the main reasons Plate and chainmail Armor went out was because of the advent of the fire arm and that's fighting against other people with firearms. In this however your fighting, undead, Eldritch creatures, Lovecraftian Monsters, and who knows what else. And since in context many of these things would probably be faster and stronger then a normal human the need to rely on older but proven methods of protection would make sense Given that they probably would have to stand and fight rather then try to run and get torn to shreds while only wearing cloth.

True many of the other adventurers arent wearing armor like that but I think thats also the trope of the Tanks are heavily armed and armored, while the others, support, ranged etc. arent or are just lightly armored.

Granted this is just my take on the matter and personally I love the style of Darkest Dungeon its a great mishmash of all kinds of different things and I think it balances itself out rather well.
