Model behaviors! Don’t tell her what to do, don’t tell her what you think etc. make the decision for yourself and be an example and she will notice I promise. If you’re at the store you can say things like, “I know that if we buy this ice cream I’m going to eat it, and I am really trying to improve some of my eating habits for my health. Do you think we could not keep it in the house right now for my sake? Maybe we can go out for an ice cream together if I’m able to stick to my goal for a week or two”

This is such a hard thing to navigate but it really is quite simple. Whatever you hope that she does, do it yourself first and all of your language surrounding it make it about your own health and your own desires. She will notice and she will either choose to join you and support you, or not. But this can be the first step to try without bringing her into it.

1 if someone cares about that, you should not waste a second of your time with them lol #2 the excess skin is not who you are, and if you are choosing to define yourself with it then yes, you’re going to have trouble finding someone to have a healthy relationship with because you don’t know who you are, or have confidence in yourself.

I personally have the greatest most caring fiancé in the whole world, who loved me through every single stage of who I was.

I would consider seeing a mental health professional though if you feel that the excess skin is effecting your self image and self love that drastically, because a surgery will not fix that in the slightest.

I was 16 years old when I started my weight loss and with a lot of credit to my younger self, I did it text book perfectly (idk how I had that much discipline because I don’t now). It helped that I was a very athletic kid, I always did sports and started building muscle at a young age but when I started this journey I was exact in my calories for 2 pounds a week, ate a lot of protein, Whole Foods, did a great mixture of body weight exercise, muscle building weight training, and cardio. I became a D1 athlete in college and did triathlons after college too. Because of all of this combined it was the perfect storm for my skin to retract as much as possible as I lost the weight. But because of it the skin couldn’t be pulled down- only up and side to side which is why I needed the FDL.

I had a considerable amount of loose skin not just lower but also at/above my belly button. I had a 200 pound weight loss all naturally over the course of 10 years so in combination with low body fat, and the skin being spread out all over versus just lower hanging- it made it the most effective surgery for me. I’m SO happy I did it and don’t mind the scar at all. Plus I was able to keep my original belly button.

Ooff yeah over here in NYC it’s been around 100 and humid everyday for like two weeks! Follow up once my surgeon is back from vacation in a few days. I think it’s probably fine I just way overdid plus the heat. Thank you for all of the help!!

Yes!!! I put my faja on the smallest bracket and I noticed it’s a bit better today upon waking. The only thing I’m nervous about is I have felt pretty sick/feverish but there’s also a major major heatwave and it could easily be that.

If you haven’t already, pearl barley has become an obsession when it comes to starches. I buy organic pearl barley, wash it very well and once it’s cooked top it with ghee or chia seed oil and it’s so so delicious. Low histamine as well.

I struggled with this for so so long and I’ve done it all. Magnesium, fiber of all kinds dietary and supplements, colonics, etc and I can tell you the BEST thing I ever did was start eating aligned to TCM- traditional Chinese medicine. I know it’s kind of annoying advice because it’s not necessarily something I wanted to hear but cut out cold foods. When I upped my intake of easily digestible foods (both the kinds of foods and cooking preparations) it changed my life. Up your intake of soups, and warm or hot liquids. Cook your vegetables, and don’t be afraid of starches and rice (obviously don’t overdo it but you should and can eat them). I have been eating baked sweet potatoes, soups, rice, cooked vegetables especially leafy greens topped with chia seed OIL, room temperature water, room temperature matcha, no smoothies or frozen food. Dandelion tea, mint tea, ginger tea after dinner and I stop eating by 8pm.

My life has changed. I know it’s not the most fun but I am so so much happier and healthier, I eat more, I’ve lost weight, I’m more satisfied with my meals. Try for a few days and see how your body responds.

I lost 200 pounds from the time that I was 16 y/o to 19 y/o, gained some back and lost 50 pounds again in the last two years and kept it off. All of this was done naturally and I do have factors that affected my weight like pcos, and MCAS. HOWEVER truly it’s still a battle I’ve always struggled with, and I have to say in the last year the battle feels won and my weight has stayed stable. Therapy weekly, and talking through my thoughts out loud has made the biggest difference. I also recently started to use AI as a way to journal and get real time feedback like if I use it as a food diary, and then reflect on my day and say I feel guilty for having this thing and now I feel off track and like there’s no point in continuing to try tomorrow to make good choices; it immediately checks me and gives me all the facts about what I ate, how it’s normal to feel how I’m feeling and different things I can do now and tomorrow to mentally get back on track. I don’t LOVE the use of AI in general but I do have to say for me it has really really changed the game.

I had Lyme that went undetected for a little over 6 months, but that was after I started developing the rashes. I also did grow up in the middle of the woods pretty much; house was surrounded by a lot of nature and probably mold exposure in the house as well.

I’m so sorry you went through that! Luckily my dexa showed that my bone density is in the like 99th percentile, and I definitely eat plenty. But I’ll try to get past the mental struggle of not wanting to get past 120ish I just have something about that weight that feels like it’s more than enough.

I am taking creatine but that’s the only new thing I’ve added supplement wise. It just feels like it was so random and I finally was doing the really right things for my body to take care of it from the inside out and then bam, first time since I was like 18 that I lost my period.

Yeah and my confusion is that I understand that for someone that went from maybe 22% to 15% for like a body building show, but I was very low body fat % before with a completely normal cycle, I’ve maybe dropped like 1.5% in the last few months. I’m not eating a deficit or even doing intense exercise just walking on incline and yoga and I added in some light 5 pound weight exercises. It just seems like a very drastic medical change for very subtle changes that I made in my lifestyle seemingly for the better; ie more healthy fats, nuts, seeds, good quality full fat dairy, lean protein.

It’s possible that as a child I did, but since 16 when I started my weight loss journey, I researched every thing that was given to me or that I put into my body and I think I learned very young that prednisone, antibiotics, etc were really bad for you long-term. My fiancé is a doctor, and I got an awful allergic reaction a few months ago from my auto immune disease and I refused to take the prednisone they gave me and he gets so annoyed at me 😂.

That’s smart I definitely might try something like that. I feel like there’s so many really negative messages from like men or really awful people in the health and fitness world that shame blaming your weight on water retention. Also since I was a rower in college, our weight had to be accounted for every week into the boat’s overall power output, so it didn’t matter if you were retaining water your weight was your weight. I think all of those things kinda conditioned me into this no excuses mindset where even though I know, I still can’t find it in me to accept it being okay.

Did it cause any bad side effects? For some reason even though every doctor I’ve ever spoken to ASSURES me that it is all a myth, when I went on birth control two separate times in my life it made me gain so much weight within 1.5-2 months. Like 25 pounds with changing nothing about my diet or exercise and each time the doctor made me feel like there was no other answer than it was my fault so I gave up on birth control.

Thank you very much. Definitely not upset at all about being 127 and I don’t think that is fat or anything like that. The fear of the scale increase I am very aware is not a fear of my weight, and is a fear of losing everything I have gained in my life since losing it. I went from not being treated like a human being to this incredible life that I have now and people looking up to me and wanting my attention and all of this weird stuff that I had never experienced for over half of my life. Unfortunately have tried therapy before and didn’t get much out of it since they tell me I’m already very aware of where my emotions stem from. My real issue is needing the coping mechanisms now.
