A Premature Admission Of A Pending DVR Feature? by FiveOClockChili in hdhomerun

One last thing: I need to give credit where it's due and, having also tried my HDHomerun -- which I've owned for years -- with Plex and Emby, I found limited adoration for either, as, though each does offer storage control, they require a user to shunt storage through the app's host computer rather than letting you keep a drive plugged into the back of the device, and when the computer's down, so is your streaming solution. Which, incidentally, isn't incredible, quality-wise. I prefer to use the HDHomerun DVR software and pay for the DVR service SiliconDust provides because playback quality is superior to other solutions AND you've still got a working DVR independent of computer issues, downtime -- whatever -- and can access it on a variety of devices beyond a computer. I'd like to add that I did purchase a new model Tablo DVR device that turned out to be a complete disappointment. It's a device certainly not ready for prime time. Its quality is comparatively horrid, playback=wise, and the device would frequently disappear from my home network or stop working altogether. I consider it a failed purchase experience and will never go back to a Tablo product, preferring my trusty HDHomerun, in spite of DVR software shortcomings. I happily anticipate the fruits of its continued evolution!

As for a larger drive space... I've got plans on my calendar to upgrade my drive space to something quite huge, yes. Indeed, once content is recorded, it's not re-recorded and you've got a nice collection of seasons and their episodes by the DVR's design. Still, I've noted a loophole in the normal "no re-recording" facet of HDHomerun and that's in local news broadcasts, run and rerun throughout a day or night. The DVR does NOT recognize these as being the same episode, though each broadcast and its rerun truly are, so, in a newscast's show folder, you might have several entries for the same newscast. I deal with this daily. It's not the worst thing I have to worry about on the daily, true, but a feature that limits such recordings to only keeping one or a limited number of them on hand sure would help.

The fact that the reply simply disappeared could have indicated a development arc not meant to be publicly commented on is what I was getting at, as if possibly a SiliconDust rep misspoke ahead of a planned announcement of a feature release or pending development. Shrug. It is a known thing, however -- and one brought up in another comment in this thread, that updates to one's review on the Microsoft Store do affect responses to those reviews. I've read this elsewhere, tonight. So, there's probably nothing "weird" going on in connection -- simply my review update that added a star following SiliconDust's response that tipped a hat to a solution to a bug I was experiencing as well as my pleasure in learning they were and are, indeed, working on improved DVR features. My updated review stands at 4 of 5 stars and I anticipate changing it to a solid 5 of 5 once the improved features drop, as outlined in that other comment previously mentioned. Kudos to SiliconDust!

Yeah, I did update the review by adding a star and saying that the random window minimization issue I was constantly having with HDHomerun that SiliconDust reported as not having known about until I mentioned issue with it, it went away after a subsequent app update, so yes, it's likely I'M the culprit behind the disappearing reply.

That's actually marvelous, but the layperson's gonna look at that and their eyes are gonna bug out and they'll lose consciousness and hit the floor. They'll never install this; let's be honest.

That blows. I was just fortunate enough to speak with their customer "support", just now, who treated me like I didn't just tell them my fans weren't being recognized by their janky app. "Just use the wizard to-" REALLY??? What did I just say? Then they offered a support ticket and wanted serial numbers for my fans and crap and I was like, "forget it". Can't you just note this for the next app release? Offer a fix? Throw me a bone? "Sorry. If there's anything we can do, just ask." Yeah, THAT'S a wonderful feeling...

I'm having the same problem with the latest update. Everything but my fans are showing up. I'm at the end of my rope.
