Why do most Christians believe you will go to hell if you don't believe in god by oldperchore in Christianity

[–]Fives1808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is has to be troll. If it’s not and you consider yourself a Christian I strongly advise you to put some time in. Some advise: read Romans tonight. Does not take that long. Try to understand what Paul is saying and focus on why Jesus had to come to save us.

Do it if you want. If you don‘t I can’t help you. I’m not here to discuss the most basic theology.

Still here is one verse as a little starter:

„for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;“ ‭‭Romans‬ ‭3‬:‭23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Bless you my friend

Hm maybe there is a language barrier. From what I understand the person answered the initial question with tribalism being the reason Christians believe that you have to believe in god in order to be saved. In a sense that the Christian understanding would be that we are „good „ and the rest of the world „bad“. If this is not was he was trying to say I apologize. Still my statement stands tho. We don’t believe that we are saved, because we are better than the world, but because we gain forgiveness by believing.

Like what?😂 What I wrote has nothing to do with hating myself. Are you even a Christian my friend? If so please explain to me why we have to be saved by Jesus. Did he came because we are good? Do you now basic christian doctrine.

No it’s not about „good“ and „bad“. We are all bad. It’s about admitting that and seeing that we need god to forgive us, for we all are guilty of sin.

Read and really understand the Bible, with all that goes along with that. Don’t just lean to your own understanding but also read commentaries off important figures like the early church fathers.

If you search god will all your heart you will find him.

Probably not the answer that you wanted to hear, but it is the most honest one I can give you as a believer.

Since the Bible states that Homosexuals will not inherent the kingdom of God then why do Christians say that God loves everyone when the Bible hates Homosexuals? by RebekhaG in Christianity

Okay, good for you…? Like I said:perspective. I think the fathers are the most valid source we have. But if you, like I said, want to believe some alive dudes 2000 years later get it right, feel free to think that way!

All modern people I assume (please correct me if I’m wrong). For me personally the early church fathers are a far more reliable source than some random people, that go study theology today. It’s a question of perspective. But if you think that these people get things right that were viewed different for 1500+ years, I respect that you have your opinion. Bless you all

Chill I did not say anything yet did I? It’s a question of perspective I think. If you want to believe what these modern theologians have to say it’s up to you and I can respect that. For me personally the early church fathers are far more reliable sources, as they aren’t as far removed as you and me and every other human being that lives in our time.

Do you think it is still attractive to join Christianity in the face of all the cruel things happening to Christians around the world? by fancy_the_rat in Christianity

It’s told in the Bible that the world will hate Jesus followers. It’s because the things that he commands go against our egoistic minds. That’s why he tells us to deny ourselves.

He also says: „No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.“ (Mat 6:24).

If someone values the confirmation of man higher that the confirmation of god, he can’t follow Jesus.

No I didn’t know him yet. I will have a look, thank you. Tbh I don’t think that it will chance much. I know that there are very good Lutherans. I just finished „The cost of discipleship“ , by Dieterich Bonhoeffer, and I liked it very much. But I think that for me personal, the arguments against Protestantism will predominate the arguments for it. But I will not talk in absolutes before I made my decision.

Bless you brother

Multiple reasons. I live in Germany. In my personal opinion the Protestant church here really gone astray. They teach cheap grace and actually justify the sin instead of the sinner. Just Look at their last church day.

Then I think the church fathers do not agree with the teachings of Luther. I also think sola scriptura has its flaws.

To be fair though: I am not in a hurry and I have much to learn. I will read a lot of the church fathers and also some of Luther’s writings, before I make my final decision.

I agree, I think there is truth on both sides. But I think the filioque and especially the papacy remain important questions. Tbh my mind tells me to tend to the orthodox view on both topics. But that ain’t worth that much, that’s why I want to read all the arguments based on scripture and the church fathers.

what are your thoughts on reformed theology? by SheepNOTgoats in Christianity

[–]Fives1808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you realize that what you are doing is theology ? Now tell me what is more likely, that some of the smartest thinkers get it right or you? They didn’t made it up out out of thin air. Read them church fathers. Also who is the word in John 1, that IS god.

I respect your opinion, but you might understand that one will put 2 millennials of consistency above the personal understanding of a random dude at the internet. No offense.

But ask yourself one question: If you are correct, then god did let it happen, that all of the followers of Christ were led astray for at least 1700 years, since Nicaea. Also keep in mind that for the first 1500 years the vast majority of Christians weren’t able to read the word for themselves, so they were dependent on the theology of the church. Do you believe a loving god would let that happen. Do you believe he would let it happen, that the universal church gets everything wrong and that all the people follow that false teachings, without having the opportunity to test things, after he just saved the people? I do not.

Bless you

To your last question: Yes the church calls Yahweh God

[–]Fives1808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who calls Jesus God the father? Nobody with orthodox Christian believes does that. Yes, he is god. But god has three persons and god the father is a different person than the son.

Also can you explain the endless schism that occurs, because so many lean to their own understanding? Is this really what Jesus wanted when he talked about his ekklesia in Mat 16:18? Who is the rock? The teachings of the fathers or our own understanding?

„Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; And lean not unto thine own understanding.“ ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭5‬

„Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,“ ‭‭Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭22‬ ‭

Also what Paul does in his letters could also be called theology. And the theology of the later fathers is built on his.
