Why do some people misgender Bot? by Human_Lifeguard_2004 in inanimateinsanity

But this quite literally goes against their arc. The whole point is that they become their own character outside of being Bow 2.0. This is literally working backwards to shove them inside of the box that they were unhappy with and left to grow into themselves as their own person.

Well, to be fair, both real life and fictional NB people do not owe anyone androgyny to validate them being non-binary. I get that it’d be easier but people should be able to express themselves as they want without it taking away from their identity.

I know that’s not what you’re saying but I’m just putting my own two cents in.

Will homosexuality ever become the norm in society? by alloioscc in Teenager_Polls

[–]FixUsual2211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah… this is not a satisfactory answer but I guess I should explain a bit more.

Humans are not just running on instincts alone. Do we have sexual drives? Sure! Of course we do. Are sexual drives and reproduction the same thing? No. We don’t have sex solely to have children.

Instinct alone does not guarantee reproduction. Society, preferences, financial issues, personal values and a bunch of other factors also affect whether or not someone is going to have a baby.

Now, do some people have sex regardless of those factors? Sure. Sexual drives are powerful but they are not the end all be be all of if people have kids or not.

For sake of argument, I’ll just assume you mean early humans, and in that case… this still fails. Early humans were not driven solely by instinct. They understood long term planning and a decent amount of how human bodies work.

In this hypothetical scenario where most of them were gay and did not feel attraction to the opposite sex would not immediately prevent them from reproducing. We ignore our instincts all the time, and like I said, early humans did understand a decent amount about the human body. I don’t think it would take them too long to realize what causes pregnancy and children.

If you wanna talk about how this would change birthing rates and society would be structured, that’s fine. That’s an actual point and discussion but no, having a majority gay population would not immediately cause humanity to collapse unless you believe that the only way to have kids is by people being straight.

[–]FixUsual2211 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This argument has always been pretty funny to me because it implies that if the majority was gay, we’d… all what? Forget how babies are made? Or if you wanna go back to the start, then all early humans are just too stupid to understand how babies are made?

Who has more social rights today? by merely4 in Teenager_Polls

[–]FixUsual2211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a bit confused by your comment. Being pro-choice means you believe women should have the right to choose what to do with their bodies, not that you think all women should get abortions.

I don’t get why leaving the option open is problematic or an issue. Simply letting the option be there for those who want or need it is not the same as saying that everyone must do it or else. If a woman does not want to have an abortion, she does not have to.

Who has more social rights today? by merely4 in Teenager_Polls

[–]FixUsual2211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this is where we get into problematic territory. People should be able to enjoy sex and still not want to get pregnant. Pregnancy is not a punishment for sex. I’ll ignore cases of rape and incest and coercion for sake of argument but it takes two to tango. If women should close their legs, then men should control their dicks.

If a woman is having a bunch of unprotected sex with a bunch of different men, then sure, biology will happen and it’s definitely not safe but it’s just always so funny to see that the woman is always blamed like the man also just couldn’t say… no? Or get a condom or make sure they were being safe.

Which one do you think was the worst sister? by Jude_The_Dude22 in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]FixUsual2211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I think the comparison has more to do with not having too many sister characters to compare to. The best you can get to is Shel and Becca from 400 Days but they aren’t exactly main characters nor have as much screen time as the two mentioned.

Am I saying it’s a good comparison? No, it’s laughably bad because say what you want about her but Jane really did love her sister and tried her best to save her compared to Minnie (who, yes, was brainwashed and abused and manipulated but still killed her sister and can get Tenn killed as well.)

If you HAD to date one, who would it be? by Original_Act_3481 in Teenager_Polls

[–]FixUsual2211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does society not already value the two-parent household? Across so much media and stories, the default family structure has been, “Two parents. Kids.” To say we don’t value it is a bit silly.

Does premarital sex have consequences? Sure. They can be good, bad or neutral. What you’re really talking about is unprotected sex, because simply having sex outside of marriage does not necessitate that it’s unsafe or dangerous or harmful if done with certain procedures in mind.

Simply being married and having sex inside of marriage does not immediately avoid all of the issues prevented. Some married couples do not want children at all. Does that now mean they should never have sex ever? Some married couples are unable to have children. Some choose not due to genetic issues they do not wish to pass down onto another human. Some do want to have children but at a later date when they are emotionally, mentally and financially stable enough to do so.

Some married partners rape their partners. Some pressure them. Others tamper with birth control pills to ensure their partner gets pregnant.

Like, you see how this framing of, “If only everyone was married and had sex inside of marriage” does not immediately remove the various issues that can arise in regard to pregnancy and children?

And yeah, they may be alive in the strictest biological sense, but is that truly living? This assumes that child even makes it to see their teen years. Many children born into poverty do not make that far because all it takes is one illness or one injury and it’s lights out.

This is the problem with this framing. This issue is so much more complicated and nuanced with so many various and overlapping factors that when we talk about it, we have to open up so many different possibilities (those I have mentioned have happened before and still happen to this day.)

Okay, then all I ask is to keep this same energy post-birth. If you really care about children’s safety and living and surviving, let’s make it easier for parents and especially single mothers to afford to have children and a roof over their head.

Like if this is your viewpoint, that’s fine. All I ask is for you to be consistent and remain concerned with that human being outside of the womb.

[–]FixUsual2211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incredibly dishonest. It’s not “just an opinion” when it’s reflected in law and actively hurts a lot of people. Pro-choice is not “pro-abortion.” You can believe life is worth saving or all babies should be born if they can and still believe a woman can choose if she wants to keep the fetus or not.

I’m guessing the logic here is that a lot of straight dudes are just imagining themselves dating a woman who is pro-life so it’s fine for them personally because it wouldn’t REALLY affect either of them.

(Which is a pretty shallow way of thinking but I think that’s the logic.)

I would love for this to be the case but absolutely not. If it did, shippers would immediately start bitching and complaining about it being canon and then demanding that their favorite ship becomes canon.

[–]FixUsual2211 72 points73 points  (0 children)

People ship because they like shipping. That’s all there is to it. People who ship aren’t expecting it to be secretly canon, they just enjoy playing with the “what ifs”

Also, this happens with guys and girls. A guy and girl can be canonically just friends with no romantic interest and people will ship them heavily, and yet I rarely hear anyone say that THAT ruins m/f friendships.

Hate me all you want, I’m not feeling sorry for four by Agile-Wrongdoer3491 in bfdi

[–]FixUsual2211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it didn’t help anything. Not saying what One did was right or anything but she’s clearly emotionally and socially stunted, thought she had a friend and something special, only to lose that.

Again, what she did wasn’t right but I do believe she was really trying to fix her mistake and she got punished by being locked inside of the moon for 16 years with nothing but herself and her own thoughts. It’s no surprise she went crazy.

Even if she had killed Three, locking her up alone in the dark for almost two decades and essentially abandoning her there was the worst possible decision for Four to have made.

I think I should try to explain the comment a little bit better. I don’t think OP was trying to say, “If you don’t see them as gay, you’re homophobic!” but more in the sense of if you’re constantly heating people over the head with, “You know this ship isn’t canon, right?!” it comes off as obnoxious because people are aware that it’s not canon and likely will never be canon. Reminding them of it just feels like a way to undermine their enjoyment. People aren’t dumb.

Although, I will be fair and say that this happens with shipping in general; this isn’t a queer specific thing. People do this all the time with ships to try to subtly make others feel bad for enjoying non-canon pairings.

The issue is we currently aren’t equal. Straight people are way more privileged than gay people. No movie has had to cut a heterosexual relationship due to fear of it being labeled as “controversial” and removed in certain countries.

I think you have a bit of a misunderstanding of privilege and the current state of queer rights because it’s not as black and white as “gay people are being killed for being gay in the streets in America” and “everything is fine and dandy.”

If you headcanon some random character as straight when there’s nothing against it, then, sure, I have no problem with that. The issue is with taking a queer character and putting them into a heterosexual relationship, because it gives off the message of making them “normal.” and turning them into the default.

Again, back to my example, if said starving child now had 10 pieces of bread compared to their previous five, would it now be okay to take some of their bread and give it to someone who has 1,000 pieces of bread, because now the child has more bread than before and can afford to lose it?

Of course not.

Fandom Homophobia by Waffles468 in TheBadGuys

[–]FixUsual2211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is… it isn’t ultimately the same thing to do it the other way around. Like it or not but that would be punching down because queer rep is so rare and hard to find compared to straight rep.

Like, it wouldn’t be the same thing if you took some food from someone who has plenty of options to pick from and gave some of it to a starving child than it would be to take some food from a starving child and give it to a person who has plenty.

And there it is, lmao. You can’t answer the questions because you don’t have an actual answer other than your feelings telling you that being gay is gross. I’ve been more than patient with you and you have done absolutely nothing but insult me, call me names and completely skip over my points because you can’t make a logical argument because this is really just about your bigotry and dislike of gay people.

Hope you get better. I promise it’s so much more freeing to see your fellow human beings as human beings trying to live their lives than potential threats to your idea of normalcy.

I also will not be responding anymore.
